Why public health models are important in providing quality health care?
Public health relates to the organized measures put in place to promote health, prevent diseases, as well as prolong the life of the entire population. Public health model, on the other hand, addresses social problems or health comprehensively PHN-652 Topic 2: Models and Tools Used in Public Health. It mainly considers the environment, human factors, and the characteristics of the source of harm. One main benefit of the public health models is that they identify the causes and propose possible interventions. The public health model is essential in providing quality health care. The model takes the population approach to disease prevention and health promotion. It focuses not only on traditional areas of treatment, diagnosis and etiology but also on epidemiologic surveillance of the entire population (McCaughey & Cermele, 2017). Other areas of focus include disease prevention, health promotion as well as access to evaluation of services. These models target the prevention of problems through targeted interventions and policies of the known risk factors for the challenge. The act of quick identification and response to the problems minimize their long-term effects.

One of the public health models is health belief models. It is based on the understanding that an individual will take action connected to health if they feel that it can prevent an adverse health condition. It also incorporates the belief that the act will have a positive expectation at the end (Mahmoud et al., 2018). An excellent example includes the use of condoms to prevent HIV. The second model is the Transtheoretical model. It is associated with behaviour change and assess the readiness of an individual to act on a new and healthier behavior. It, therefore, comes up with processes or strategies of change in guiding the individual through the different stages of life (Segall, 2017) PHN-652 Topic 2: Models and Tools Used in Public Health.
