  1. The site producing the scores provides a descriptor for each score. What was a sentence that particularly stood out to you and why?

The sentence that stands out the most for me is, “You find it easy to criticize others,” which describes the negative emotionality aspect of my personality. I cannot say that I am extremely surprised by the results, yet I have not expected that I will get such low scores demonstrating that the person is “critical, rude, harsh, callous” and is not “good-natured, sympathetic, forgiving, courteous.” Although I am indeed quite critical to other people, I do not agree that I am rude or lack sympathy. Therefore, I believe that the test does not accurately demonstrate the traits of the person analyzed. PSY-255-Trait-Theory-Short-Answer-Worksheet.

  1. Utilizing at least one peer-reviewed resource, write a paragraph explaining the benefit of using personality testing in order to determine whether an individual should be employed in a specific job.

Personality is always analyzed by the employers, and the results of the tests influence employee selection, development, and team-building (Hurst & Yung, n. d.). There is a great variety of approaches, strategies, and techniques, allowing to assess an individual’s personality. The employers, employing personality testing prior to hiring, focus on two major aspects, namely person-job (P-J) fit and person-organization (P-O) fit. In other words, the employer analyzes the potential worker’s skills and competencies, and if their personality matches the organization’s environment (Kumar, 2019). In fact, personality testing is the key factor that allows the entity to determine the person’s effectiveness and usefulness (Calvasina & Calvasina, 2016), which helps to hire professional and adequate individuals capable of adding to the development of the organization. In addition, such testing enables the employer to get people with “‘good character,” decreasing the possibilities of “a costly negligent hiring lawsuit if an employee harms a customer or co-worker” (Cavico et al., 2015). Other reasons for the application of personality testing include planning of management teams, its relatively low costs, reduction in turnover of employees and customers, or sifting the least qualified individuals (Cavico et al., 2015) PSY-255-Trait-Theory-Short-Answer-Worksheet. Therefore, personality testing has lost of benefits for the employment process, permitting to determine the best candidates for the needed positions.

  1. Utilizing at least one peer-reviewed resource, write a paragraph explaining the limitations of using personality testing in order to determine whether an individual should be employed in a specific job.

Despite the clear benefits of personality testing in the recruitment process, there is a variety of limitations, which reduce its effectiveness or even make it useless for employers. Some of the researchers claim that often the choice of the tests and their application can be neither valid nor reliable (Cavico et al., 2015). The major problem that arises with the implementation of such testing is the possibility of fake results. This aspect can be caused by two reasons, namely emotional pressure and anxiety, as well as dishonesty (Cavico et al., 2015). Individuals trying to fake their results by analyzing the questions and predicting the scores for each answer is a frequent phenomenon in the contemporary world PSY-255-Trait-Theory-Short-Answer-Worksheet. Yet, there are still no practical approaches to mitigating the problem (Cavico et al., 2015). Except for the discussed matter, one more aspect limiting the application of the testing is the fact that test results cannot help in predicting the person’s behavior that may be different from the actions typical for their personality type. Overall, personality testing has several limitations reducing its effectiveness, which necessitates further improvement of evaluation techniques.

  1. Imagine a situation where a person suddenly had access to the test results of a boyfriend/girlfriend. Explain why this person may have a strong desire to review the results of their significant other. What social and ethical problems could arise from seeing their results?

There is a common belief that personality tests are, in fact, extremely accurate and enable us to analyze our character to determine the strong and weak sides. There is a great variety of testing options, which may focus on various aspects, like leadership qualities or the role in relationships. Although the results are not always accurate, other people would still like to read the characteristics of others around them, especially the family, friends, or boyfriends/girlfriends, to get a better understanding of the person they are communicating with. Moreover, most people would like to make sure they see the true identities of others not to get betrayed. Any individual would like to date with a reliable and sincere person, and testing is one of the means of checking individuals around. It may cause both positive and negative effects depending on the expectations of the person and the actual results of the testing. In terms of the social aspect, the review of the results of other people may lead to conflicts, the spread of information to other people, and change in the attitude of those who expect to encounter different results. Or if the outcomes are better than assumed, the situation results in more reliable social connections and better relations. In terms of the ethical side of the question, the review of the results can be defined as the violation of personal rights for confidentiality. Moreover, as the results of the test may be faked/inaccurate, any change of the behavior can be perceived as morally incorrect. Tests cannot show what the person really is, and people should rely on their own vision and feelings while assessing the person PSY-255-Trait-Theory-Short-Answer-Worksheet.

  1. Should we know the personality profiles of our community leaders? What might the public gain or lose from having those profiles?

It may be extremely beneficial for the community to check the personal profiles of their potential leaders prior to voting to determine the best candidate for the position of the national leader. Such matter can allow the public to choose more suitable and trustworthy individuals who can add to the prosperity of the nation. At the same time, taking into consideration the chance that personality profiles can be faked to demonstrate the person in a better light, the access to such information may result in the wrong choice, threatening the future of the country. I assume there are no tools/testing strategies that can aid in getting absolutely accurate information about the person; therefore, the access to testing results has more potential drawbacks than benefits. Moreover, after I read about the experiment performed by the professor Michael Wiederman from the School of Medicine Greenville and an expert on psychological tests who proved that randomly taken tests have similar results to the tests completed by another person (Shapiro, 2018) I became confident that contemporary testing are absolutely irrelevant and should not be taken into consideration when making serious decisions. Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability

Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability. Why might it be useful for future twin studies to separate out monozygotic (identical) from dizygotic (fraternal) twins?

PSY 255 Personality Psychology Topic 4 DQ 1

Hello,

The advantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability is twins are the closest model type that behavior geneticists can use for scientific experiments. It is most useful, as you probably already know, to separate out the identical twins from the fraternal twins. Why? Identical twins develop from a single fertilized egg; whereas, fraternal twins develop from separate fertilized eggs. There are no more similarities in fraternal twins than there are with the kids down the block in the same neighborhood. Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability.

When we take a closer look at how a human is created and how our genes are developed, we get a clearer understanding how different people truly are; even when born into the same household with the same parents. Humans have different chromosomes, DNA, and genes. These genes according to David Myers believes, “You have 30,000 or so gene words” (2011), that is a lot of gene words for a person’s personality to develop from.

When we think about God, who created each one of us. “We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand” (Isaiah 64:8). I am overwhelmed by the realization of how much God loves us, to create us all differently. We are an original, no two people have the same fingerprint or identical DNA. You and I are masterpieces, “…I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are your works…” (Psalm 139) Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability.

Being created unique and differently, still raises the age-old question, how much does enviroment (nurture) influence personality? Parents still do influence a child’s attitude, value, manners, faith, and politics. Suppose you take identical twins, and the parents divorce and each parent takes one child and raises them differently. According to behavior geneticists the twins could still have the same likes, dislikes, mannerisms, laugh, sense of humar, and tastes in spouses. In conclusion, genetic heritability is still a mystery.

Re: Topic 4 DQ 1

The advantage is you have two genetically identical people that came from the same egg (monozygotic) and are virtually a carbon copy on one and another. Analyzing the set of twins can give you duplicate results and verifying the results will not be as difficult if they are the only set of children in the family. If they have other siblings then you have two sets of results that can be verified or contested with the other sibling(s). If the heritability results match then we can see we do inherit some of our personality genes from our parents. The disadvantage is they are both raised in the same environment and one can say the environment has an influence in shaping a portion of their personality. Another advantage is the nonadditive effect for monozygotic twins. The probability of sharing exact combination of genes is greater in monozygotic twins than it is with dizygotic twins. Nonadditive effects strengthen the genetic heritability in monozygotic twins but not in dizygotic twins. One serious ethical issue I can see is separating monozygotic or dizygotic twins at birth and separating them by distance and economical tiers to validate the genetic heritability. Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability.

Topic 4 DQ 1

The different types of twins include identical and fraternal twins. Identical twins are made when a fertilized egg is split; thus creating twins. Fraternal twins are made when two eggs are fertilized at the same time. Each set of twins are unique and different in their own ways. However, one major advantage to twins is their genetic makeup. Twin A and twin B always have the same DNA which can somewhat be looked at as variables. One twin could technically be the dependent variable and the other the dependent due. Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability. For example, if trying to research if breast milk really is best for a baby a mother could breast feed baby A and formula feed baby B. Using the twins that have the same genetic makeup leave less margin for error in my opinion. To look at this from a personality psychological stand point let’s take the movie parent trap. Identical twin girls are separated and live two completely different life styles. If we were trying to see if the twins developed any personality traits from their other parent it would be easier because we would not have the actual parents personality shaping how they are. It would be considered an outside factor because they are not influenced every day by their superego. However, if they were to be raised in the same environment this would leave to the possibility of disadvantages of both their mother and father having an effect on their personalities Advantages and disadvantages in using twins to analyze genetic heritability. Although I believe it is unethical to purposely separate twins I do believe there can be positives to it and if done in a good way can be beneficial. For example, I have three sets of twins in my class; one set of parents is very adamant about them being together at all times; the other two could careless as long as it does not affect their behavior in a negative way. We separate twin O and twin J at meal times because we know if they are together they tend to throw food, kick their friends, and not eat. However, at nap time we have them together because they sleep better when near each other. In my opinion, if done in a manner that does not separate them fully it is best for both twins. Re: Topic 4 DQ 1
To introduce this week’s topic of the advantages and disadvantages faced in using twins to analyze genetic heritability, I found the following quote that Burger (2011) mentions relevant: “Eysenck maintained that the individual differences in personality he described are based on physiological differences” (p. 200-201). I feel that this could readily apply to twins. Now, in regard to the actual advantages and disadvantages, one of the most apparent advantages of using twins to analyze genetic heritability is that they share DNA. Therefore, if the testing shows that they have the same characteristics, even if they live separately, that would be evidence to show that twin studies are effective. Another advantage in using twins to analyze genetic heritability is that, according to Burger (2011), “Other methods for teasing apart genetic and environmental influences also find evidence for genetic influence, but are not as strong as in the twin-study data…The strongest and most consistent evidence in favor of genetic influence on personality comes from twin-study research” (p. 235-237). This goes to show just how efficacious data from the twin-study research is relative to other methods of gathering data. Now, a disadvantage of twin-study research is that, “researchers assume that MZ and DZ twins have equally similar environments. However, there is evidence that MZ twins may share more of their environment than DZ twins” (p. 237). This can be quite deceiving, especially when drawing conclusions from the research done on both kinds of twins. Another disadvantage of twin-study research, as Burger mentions, is, “Research suggests that personality traits aren’t passed down from parent to child in a simple, direct manner. Rather, the inherited part of personality is often the result of a combination of a complex combination of more than one gene…That is, the genetic influence of same personality traits may not be seen…” (p. 238). This can also cause deception when interpreting the results of the study. Overall, however, using twins to analyze genetic heritability is useful in that MZ twins’ genes and personalities are not affected by the environments: “As you can see, the MZ twins tend to be quite similar to each other regardless of whether they are raised with or separated from their twin brother or sister…The obvious explanation for this similarity is that the twins’ genes shaped their personalities in a similar manner regardless of the environments they grew up in” (Burger, 2011, p. 256).Burger, J.M. What jobs should require personality tests prior to hiring a candidate? What traits are important for these jobs?

Topic 3 DQ 1

I believe that employees of any social services program who’s position allows them power over clients should be given a personality test. During my time employed by a child safety department, I saw personality types from case managers that were toxic to the well being of the clients. Case managers hold power over the parents who are fighting to get their kids back Personality tests in job hiring essay – PSY 255 Topic 3 DQ 1. While there is some accountability, a bad case manager could ruin a parent’s chances or prolong the case. When a case manager came in with an attitude that they were going to rescue all the children, it created an atmosphere where they saw the parents as the enemies and the foster parents as heroes. While the safety of the child is and should be the number one priority, the parents should not be misrepresented, and it is the case managers job to provide resources for the parent to improve themselves. This blinded them to real issues with foster parents that sometimes ended with the child removed from their foster placement.

With that being said, I saw case managers who constantly exhibited healthy personality traits that created nurturing environments for parents, children and foster parents. These case managers never enabled the parents, but gave them the opportunities to succeed. These case managers wanted the parents to get their kids back and gave them the opportunities to better their lives and prove that they were able to safely care for their children. These case managers were patient, empathetic to the hardships people have experienced, resilient when handling tough cases, adaptable to the needs of everyone they worked with, and most importantly, honest. These are traits that I believe anyone with a position of power should exhibit. Personality tests in job hiring essay – PSY 255 Topic 3 DQ 1

Hello,

I think there are a lot of jobs out there tht should require personality test, but the ones that comes to my mind first are goverment jobs, and people who work with children or the elderly. I think that specifically for goverment jobs like FBI, police officers, soilders, CPS just government jobs in genereal. I think that for all of these jobs they have to be pretty strong minded, not emotional. Be able to hold their own and control their emotions. Specifically with people who work with CPS thats tough and could be hard for some people to handle. You dont necessarily understand how a job is going to be until you actually are hands on working so I think having a personalty test is important.

Some of the traits listed are lifesaving so, for the peace of mind of the citizens and the safety of everyone it’s important that we have law enforcement in our communities that have these traits. Healthcare workers especially are on the frontlines working during this current global pandemic the traits that they display are very important as well. Some traits healthcare workers need to have are, the ability to problem-solve, compassionate, empathetic, passionate, and good communication skills. Allport’s concept of functional autonomy Discussion Essay

PSY 255 Personality Psychology Topic 3 DQ 2

Discuss Allport’s concept of functional autonomy. Identify two instances in your life where functional autonomy was present.

Topic 3 DQ 2

According to the American Psychological Association (APA), Gordon W. Allport’s notion of ‘functional autonomy’ is defined as “a general principle of motivation stating that during the performance of purposeful, goal-oriented behavior, various derivative drives emerge as independent units from the original drive that inspired the behavior” (2020).Allport’s concept of functional autonomy Discussion Essay. It goes on to cite the example of studying motivated by the desire to obtain high grades, and how that could be gradually replaced by the desire for (and pursuit of) knowledge for its own sake. Reading this definition, it makes me think of the difference between intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. In intrinsic motivation, you perform the action because you want to, while in extrinsic motivation, you perform the action because you know you are going to get a reward. Based on the example provided by the APA, I would think that the concept of functional autonomy would relate more to intrinsic motivation. Offhand, I can think of many instances of extrinsic motivation that I have encountered, but it is harder to think of instances of intrinsic motivation. However, I guess if I had to identify two examples, I would cite the ones of transferring to Arizona School for the Arts during my freshman year of high school and volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul. I was intrinsically-motivated to attend ASA, so my parents went through all of the ‘hoops’ to get that started for me. I was also intrinsically-motivated to begin volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul, because I have always enjoyed benefitting the Phoenix community at large and giving back to those who are less fortunate. These are the two largest examples of functional autonomy that I feel were present in my life. Allport’s concept of functional autonomy Discussion Essay.

Hi xxx,

Reading your post about the “now” behavior to pursuit knowledge is a great example of ‘functional autonomy.’ Thanks for sharing.

After reading your post, it sparked a memory about how Nicholas Spark became a very famous author. He began his writing career by accident. He began to write to occupy time (boredom) from being sidelined from sports due to an injury. What began as filling time and keeping his mind off of his injury, became a lifetime habit and a very luractive career. Now his motive is not to pass time, but as a career. Allport’s concept of functional autonomy Discussion Essay.

Nicholas Sparks, tells the story best when he shares what his mother said to him. “Your problem is that you’re bored. You need to find something to do…” Then she looked at me and said the words that would eventually change my life: “Write a book.” Until that moment, I had never considered writing. Granted, I read all the time, but actually sitting down and coming up with a story on my own? …I was nineteen years old and had become an accidental author.”

I sure would love to inquire a ‘functional autonomy’ like Sparks that proved to be successful. Unfortunately, I think sometimes there can be functional autonomies that are not always healthy, but I’m sure that would be a matter of opinion. What if Sparks mother bought him video games and he just played video games for his whole season of being injuried? And, it video game playing continued throughout his life. We might never know who he is or have the opportunity to fall in love with the movie “Notebook.” Allport’s concept of functional autonomy Discussion Essay

Gordon Allport was not the one to look too much into a person’s past in order to understand the way people are presently. “This belief is most strongly evident in the concept of functional autonomy: Your motives today are independent (autonomous) of their origins” (Boeree, 2006, p. 32). An instance in my life where functional autonomy was present, I developed a taste for green beans or another example is I developed a taste for collecting tarot and oracle cards. It does not matter why I developed a taste for green beans or why I wanted to collect these cards. The facts are this is the way I am now. (Boeree, 2006) Allport’s concept of functional autonomy Discussion Essay. In terms of perseverative functional autonomy this is about habits or behaviors that no longer serve their original purpose but still continue. A good example of this is I used the word “like” frequently in speech to tease my cousin but now it serves no purpose and has become a habit. Another example is cracking my knuckles to relieve the pain in my hand but now it is a habit that I cannot quit. “Propriate function autonomy is something a bit more self-directed than habits” (Boeree, 2006, p. 34). Allport’s concept of functional autonomy Discussion Essay. A good example of this is I was punished for being selfish when I was a child. Another example is I was kind to animals. These do not detract from my generosity today; this has become my value. (Boeree, 2006).References -Dr. C. George Boeree. (2006). Gordon Allport. Topic 3 DQ 2
Hello Class,What Gordon Allport’s functional autonomy essentially means is that the actions used for achieving a goal become independent of themselves over time as one completes these actions toward completion of their goals. So, in the beginning of an undertaking towards a goal the actions are directly associated with the goal. Over time, these actions become normal and therefore less obviously associated with the end goal (Elsevier’s Dictionary of Psychological Theories, 2006). Allport’s concept of functional autonomy Discussion Essay.I can think of a few personal examples in my life, such as the undertaking of a new job or learning how to play guitar. Over time when learning my duties in the workplace or practicing guitar my actions became less about the end goal of learning these duties or chord progressions and scales, and more about performing them as I had become more proficient in them.

oInspiring others through music is Gomez’s way of pursuing self-actualization.

Maslow suggested that people hunger for belongingness or interpersonal contact (Allen, 2015). Gomez is authentic due to the need for love from her fans.

Maslow postulated that self-actualization represents the highest level of growth needs, which people require to attain superior psychological health (Allen, 2015). Gomez realizes her need for self-actualization by inspiring positive change in the attitudes and behaviors of her fans. Humanistic Personality Analysis PowerPoint

›Analysis of Personality: Rogers’ Humanistic Perspective

❑Unconditional positive regard

oGomez believes in the unconditional positive regard of her fans because she can cry or express her emotions on stage without fear.

❑Ideal self

oThe singer’s ideal self is being self-determining since she has a high regard for freedom.

Rogers’ concept of unconditional positive regard refers to the human need to be accepted, valued, and trusted just for being oneself (Allen, 2015). While she performs, Gomez expects her fans to show respect, warmth, and acceptance.

Rogers maintained that the ideal self is what a person values the most or desires to be (Allen, 2015). Gomez desires to have the freedom of having friends and getting out without scrutiny from the media (Haskell, 2017).

›Development of Personality: Maslow’s Humanistic Perspective

❑Esteem needs

oGomez develops low self-esteem related to the anxiety of failing to meet the expectations of her fans.

❑Love needs

oGomez has the negative emotions of anxiety and depression due to the fear that she may fail to realize her needs for love or belonging.

In line with Maslow’s humanistic perspective, esteem needs refer to the personal desire for competence, mastery, freedom, or achievement (Allen, 2015). Gomez develops low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression because of the perceived loss of freedom or lack of achievement.

Maslow hypothesized that the thwarting of a person’s love needs is a major cause of human maladjustment (Allen, 2015). Gomez develops panic attacks during concerts because of the fear of underperforming.

›Development of Personality: Rogers’ Humanistic Perspective

❑Self-perceptions

oGomez’s feelings of loneliness are based on her perception of self and relationships with others.

❑Congruence with experience

oThe congruence of Gomez’s self-concept and past experiences affects the development of her anxiety and depressive symptoms.

Rogers defined personality in the context of self-perceptions and the values attached to an individual’s conceptualization of self (Allen, 2015). Gomez’s self-perceptions affect how she relates with others in music tours as well as her tendency to develop feelings of loneliness.

Rogers’ notion of congruence with experience holds that the correlation between self-concepts and life experiences affects an individual’s psychological adjustment (Allen, 2015). Gomez’s self-concept and conceptualization of life’s experiences play a role in the development of her psychological challenges.

›Restoring Health: Maslow’s Humanistic Perspective

❑Individual therapy

oGomez’s therapist would apply Maslow’s notion of self-esteem to challenge beliefs and perceptions that contribute to the singer’s low self-image.

❑Group therapy

oDeveloping a sense of belonging and learning from the experiences of individuals with similar psychological issues would enable Gomez to determine how to overcome anxiety and depression.

›Restoring Health: Rogers’ Humanistic Perspective

❑Mindfulness

oGomez would incorporate Roger’s idea of self-perceptions into mindfulness exercises to develop a positive sense of self and to alleviate fear and panic attacks Humanistic Personality Analysis PowerPoint.

❑Changing negative emotions

oBased on Roger’s concept of congruence with experience, Gomez would learn to focus on positive experiences in order to improve her self-image and mitigate anxiety and depression.

Therapists who apply DBT emphasize mindfulness as it enables individuals with psychological problems to alter negative behaviors (Hughes, 2019).

In line with Roger’s humanistic approach, Gomez would focus on ensuring that her self-perceptions are congruent with positive experiences rather than negative encounters. As a result, she will learn to replace negative thoughts with positive opinions about self.

›Conclusion

Gomez’s experiences as a musician have implications for the development of her personality and psychological issues.

She develops the negative emotions of anxiety and depression due to thoughts of undesired career experiences.

The incorporation of the notions of the humanistic theory of personality into Gomez’s DBT sessions would enable her to maintain a positive concept of self and to mitigate negative thoughts and behaviors.

Personality Research Paper Outline: Self-Esteem
Introduction
The topic of self-esteem has been examined widely in the field of psychology. According
to Bojanić et al. (2019), self-esteem is considered to be an important disposition that an
individual possesses. Furthermore, self-esteem influences and represents people’s judgment
about their own value. As a result, it is a concept that is widely analyzed when exploring the
mental wellbeing of an individual. Self-esteem can also be described as the set of qualities that
an individual observes within themselves (Labored et al., 2016). In this regard, it is a concept
that represents a person’s views and beliefs about self-importance and values. Those who value
their traits tend to have high self-esteem compared to their counterparts who have a negative
perception of their abilities. It is also worth stating that self-esteem is neither an inherent nor
hereditary quality. Instead, it is normally developed over the lifespan of a person and is
influenced by other people. Bojanić et al. (2019) further noted that self-esteem could affect a
person’s value systems, memory, interpretation of events, and choice of friends. Therefore, selfesteem
has a positive impact on individual and group goal achievement.
Self-Esteem, Individual, and Group Goal Achievement Personality Research Essay Paper
Aspects of personality traits and self- esteem distinguish athletes from non-athletes, as
evident in results from previous studies. Bojanić et al. (2019), for instance, examined the role of
self-esteem in differentiating active sports participants and other athletes or non-athletes. The
study entailed conducting a meta-analysis review to examine personality differences between
those who engaged in sports and those who did not. The authors found out that individuals who
participated in high-risk sporting activities exhibited greater levels of extraversion compared to
those who did not engage in such sports. Furthermore, high-risk sports were associated with a
high level of impulsiveness among the players (Bojanić et al., 2019). Further, these athletes
!3
depicted reduced degrees of neuroticism and sensitivity to punishment relative to non-athletes. In
a comparison of athletes and non-athletes, the research findings signified higher extraversion and
emotional stability levels for the former group (Bojanić et al., 2019). The study further revealed
that people who took part in team sports had higher self-esteem compared to the individuals who
participated in combat sport. Bojanić et al. (2019) noted that the trend might be linked to the fact
that self-esteem is normally dependent on social-influence. Therefore, the people in group sports
were more likely to receive support from their teammates compared to the individual sport’s
participants. Another possible explanation was the struggles that individual sportspeople go
through to maintain a positive body image. Finally, Bojanić et al. (2019) found out that
neuroticism was higher among people who took part in team sports than among their
counterparts in combat sports. The outcomes were based on the fact that combat sports require a
greater sense of deep connection and self-control compared to team sports. Personality Research Essay Paper
Another study by Labored et al. (2016) was devoted to the analysis of differences among
the personality traits of athletes depending on the type of sports they took part in. The researchers
used a cross-sectional sampling approach to show that athletes had higher scores for positive
personality-trait-like individual differences compared to non-athletes. Moreover, athletes from
individual sports showed higher scores in positive personality-trait than athletes participating in
team sports (Labored et al., 2016). The study findings highlighted the linkage between positive
personality-trait-like individual differences and participation in sporting activities (Labored et al.,
2016). The results reveal that self-esteem influences the way people participated in sporting
activities. Besides, it influences performance in both individual and team sport. It implies that
when people participate in specific sports or engage in distinct sports, they are likely to develop a
specific personality associated with that kind of activity.
People who have high self-esteem may not require encouragement from other people to
!4
maintain positive self-view. In contrast, those with low self-esteem may become defensive and
seek support from other people to have a positive self-image (Wesson & Derrer-Rendall, 2011).
It is also imperative to state that the lack of self-esteem has been linked to high chances of selfdoubt
and insecurities. In such cases, the person may react negatively to any criticism that they
receive. Furthermore, a person with low self-esteem requires positive feedback from those
around him to develop a feeling of self-confidence (Wesson & Derrer-Rendall, 2011). The need
for constant praise and positive feedback can also lead to arrogant behavior, hostility, and
boastfulness. Since self-esteem has a positive and significant correlation with self-efficacy and
self-confidence, it can affect performance in a wide range of areas and activities such as tests and
sports. Those who believe in their abilities and skills will strive to perform better and maintain a
positive self-image. Individuals with low self-esteem, on the other hand, may lack confidence
and struggle to perform at optimal levels. Personality Research Essay Paper
Self Esteem and High Life Demands
It is also imperative to state that high life demands can affect a person’s self-esteem.
Ferradás et al. (2019) conducted a study to explore the need for self-worth among university
students. As per the authors, the fear of failure and the demands of academia often lead some
students to focus on enhancing their personal worth through various strategies like defensive
pessimism and self-handicapping. For some students, focus rests on developing high levels of
motivation for learning, while others perceive the failure of academic performance to be
attributed to low self-esteem. Ferradás et al. (2019) carried out a study to examine the link
between motivational profiles and self-esteem among the students. Also, the study was meant to
help identify profile differences that could be linked to the use of defensive pessimism and selfhandicapping
strategies. The results revealed that there was a considerable connection between
low self-esteem and medium performance-avoidance goals. Furthermore, the authors stated that
!5
students with low self-esteem were likely to use self-protection strategies. Finally, the study
revealed that self-handicapping and defensive pessimism were used by students with low selfesteem
for their survival in the academic field.
Previous studies have also revealed that there is a critical link between academic
performance and students’ beliefs about their abilities (Wesson & Derrer-Rendall, 2011).
Furthermore, the perceived difficulty of tasks and goal-setting efforts can affect how learners
perform in school. Wesson and Derrer-Rendall (2011) also conducted a study to examine how
self-beliefs of students affected goal achievement. The researchers reported that the practice of
allowing students to direct their attention toward a set goal could improve academic
performance. The concept of goal-setting occurs as a motivational technique that enhances
academic achievement. In this regard, several factors are considered to ensure that goal-setting
becomes effective in increasing positive performance (Wesson & Derrer-Rendall, 2011). These
include setting clear and specific objectives, which can be attained within a given timeframe.
Wesson and Derrer-Rendall (2011) also reported that when students have a high level of
awareness about their academic abilities, they are more likely to set appropriate goals and
perform better in class. However, the enhanced performance was commonly reported in cases
where the students had moderate confidence. Wesson and Derrer-Rendall (2011) further stated
that it normally takes self-belief and assurance for students to accomplish academic goals.
However, it is also important for teachers to assist students in setting realistic goals and
developing self-belief to perform better. Personality Research Essay Paper
The experiences of a person in life may be a significant source of self-esteem. In the early
years of life, parents play a critical role in shaping the beliefs of their children and assisting them
to have a positive self-image (Akelaitis & Malinauskas, 2018). The love and support from the
parents may help the child to have a stable sense of being appreciated and cared for by the
!6
members of the society. The feelings are likely to affect the way a person deals with life demands
and challenges. In particular, those with high self-esteem may be determined to deal with the
problems that they face in life effectively to maintain a positive self-image. It is also worth
stating that the level of self-esteem may affect how a person approaches and manages life
demands (Wesson & Derrer-Rendall, 2011; Bojanić et al., 2019). People with high self-esteem
may be willing to take risks to develop appropriate solutions to the challenges that they face.
Furthermore, such individuals may be able to remain confident and focused even as they strive to
deal with the demanding nature of their work, assignments, or projects.
Self-Esteem and Emotions
Self-esteem can affect how people manage and control their emotions. Akelaitis and
Malinauskas (2018) conducted a study to examine the emotional management skills among
people who took part in the team and individual sports. The researchers noted that athletes need
to learn how to manage their emotions and those of their teammates to improve performance and
succeed in sports (Akelaitis & Malinauskas, 2018). Akelaitis and Malinauskas (2018) further
reported that there is a significant correlation between high emotional aptitudes implying
improved performance in sports. From the findings, the researchers also concluded that male
athletes who engage in team sports have greater emotional skills compared to athletes who take
part in individual sports. The trend was linked to the fact that team sports provide athletes with
an opportunity to interact with teammates and get continuous support from them. Furthermore,
teammates can work together to find solutions to various challenges and issues that affect their
performance. In the process, they become confident in their abilities and strive to achieve the
best possible results. Personality Research Essay Paper
It is imperative to state that self-esteem may be affected by the perceived risk of fear.
Furthermore, a person’s level of self-esteem may depend on the fear of embarrassment, defeat,
!7
and shame. In such instances, people strive to show defensive traits and avoid making decisions
that will lead to negative results (Akelaitis & Malinauskas, 2018). Even when the person may
show self-confidence outwardly, he or she still fears the possibility of failure or experiencing a
negative event. Some people may end up blaming others for protecting their self-image in
instances where they feel threatened by the situation in question (Akelaitis & Malinauskas,
2018). Narcissism also remains one of the major traits that an individual mat demonstrates
because of low self-esteem and the perceived risk of failure (Bojanić et al., 2019). The
narcissistic individuals strive to prove that they are valuable people and productive members of
society. Others focus on hiding their faults and stopping the feeling of being ashamed of failure.
The link between self-esteem and performance has also been examined by focusing on
the impact of emotional intelligence on how people behave and act. According to Bibi et al.
(2016), emotional intelligence is an important research topic in the field of psychology. The
concept relates to the mental ability of a person to manage emotions and enhance the thinking
process. Besides, emotional intelligence revolves around the process of understanding,
evaluating, and communicating emotions effectively. It is worth stating that emotional
intelligence affects the way people apply knowledge, assess situations, and show their feelings
towards others. Bibi et al. (2016) conducted a study to examine the connection between selfesteem
and emotional intelligence. The study findings showed that emotional intelligence is
positively correlated with self-respect for university learners. Bibi et al. (2016) also stated that
there was a positive link between emotional intelligence and self-image. Finally, the study
revealed that females were more emotionally intelligent in comparison to their male
counterparts. Despite this being the case, Bibi et al. (2016) did not find a statistically
significant gender difference in the level of self-esteem among the participants who took part
!8
in the study. For future implications, the authors suggested that interventions can be developed
to raise the self-esteem of students, thereby having a positive impact on their emotional
intelligence (Bibi et al., 2016). Bibi et al. (2016) found that high emotional intelligent results
in high self-worth, which enables people to address their issues through forging more energetic
sensitive personalities, thereby enhancing academic performance and productivity.
People strive to enhance their self-esteem to succeed in life and perform better in
activities such as tests and sports. When individuals succeed in a sporting match, for instance,
they will naturally develop high levels of self-esteem (Wesson & Derrer-Rendall, 2011). The
trend is attributed to the fact that success helps a person to develop a positive self-image.
Besides, the person will have increased belief in his or her skills and abilities. On the other
hand, the people who fail in sporting events or tests may end up losing confidence and
questioning their abilities (Bojanić et al., 2019). Others will focus on finding the activity that
they are good at to succeed in the future. Another way through which a person can enhance
self-esteem is by building positive connections with others and maintaining relationships. The
relationships normally act as a source of positive feedback that enables a person to develop a
favorable self-image and confidence. Personality Research Essay Paper
Conclusion
Self-esteem has a positive impact on individual goal achievement as it promotes
emotional intelligence, leads to efforts of protecting self-worth, and distinguishes the
personality traits of individuals. The level of self-esteem depends on the nature of feelings that
people have about themselves. Those who have negative feelings about their abilities are likely
to have low self-esteem. In contrast, people who have a positive perception of themselves
normally have high self-esteem. From the foregoing discussion, it is apparent that self-esteem
!9
affects how people perform in activities such as team sports and individual sports. Athletes
with high self-esteem strive to succeed in sports and maintain a positive self-image. Therefore,
supporting athletes to improve their self-esteem may lead to improved performance in both
individual and team sports.

Nurse Training for Competency in Nursing Informatics discussion Essay

Nurse Training for Competency in Nursing Informatics discussion Essay

Nurse Training for Competency in Nursing Informatics

Nursing informatics is a fairly recent specialty that is becoming more and more important with the explosion of technology. Like other professions, the nursing profession can no longer ignore the pervasive influence of technology. This is because novel innovations have been and continue to be introduced into the healthcare industry. These require that nurses be competent and skilled in their usage to capture healthcare data. This is nursing informatics. To achieve the level of competencies required, however, the nurses already working need to go through an upskilling program that equips them with the required competencies (TIC Collaborative, 2009; Hübner et al., 2018).

In my practice, the trainings I have attended and that were intended to give me the competencies in nursing informatics involved computer literacy and information management. These are two of the core nurse competencies needed according to the TIC Collaborative (2009) final report. This was on-the-job training which equipped me with the competency of computer knowledge. I was taught how to maximally use Microsoft word, excel, and PowerPoint. I was also taught how to collect information, process it, and present it as a body of knowledge (information management) (TIC Collaborative, 2009). Nurses are thus required to always stay up-to-date with the developments and explosion in novel technologies and nurse informatics. To achieve this, the best strategy would be to attend all the trainings and professional development opportunities that present themselves and have something to do with nursing informatics. If the health facility in which the nurse is working does not have a nurse informaticist, the nurse is also encouraged to take the opportunity and specialise in nursing informatics. She can then become the nurse informaticist of the same organization. In this, the organization can sponsor her for the training as the return on investment would be worth it Nurse Training for Competency in Nursing Informatics discussion Essay. Some of the new contemporary technologies that have exploded in the healthcare landscape and which the nurse has to know how to use include (Ellis, 2019):

  • Smart inhalers with blue-tooth capability
  • Nanotherapy for cancer chemotherapy
  • Wearable health technologies, and

Interaction Between Nurse Informaticists and Other Specialists
Nurse informaticists work to eradicate unnecessary work, improve accuracy and analyze data so as to assist other professionals within my healthcare organization to enhance the quality and safety of patient care. Lundy and Janes (2015) indicate that nurse informaticists utilize nursing science along with communication and computer science in managing and communicating knowledge, data and information n nursing practice to produce efficient and effective patient outcomes for communities and individuals. Nurse informaticists facilitate the knowledge, information, and data integration to support other nurses, patients as well as health professionals to make decisions in different settings and role. This support is accomplished via the utilization of information technology, processes, and structures (Masters, 2018). Nurse informaticists collaborate with the information technology team to find schemes of simplifying and enhancing documentation utilizing advanced information and computer technologies. Nurse Training for Competency in Nursing Informatics discussion Essay
Interactions between nurses informaticists and other professionals in my organization can be improved by ensuring that the information systems are user-friendly and effective to enable informatics nurses and other health care providers to find, receive, send, and utilize electronic health information in a way that is timely, reliable, secure, and appropriate to support the wellness and health of patients via shared decision-making. As indicated by Mamta (2014), when health professionals are able to access complete and up to date patient notes, they are able to make improved decisions about patients’ care. For instance, with the utilization of electronic documentation, identification of alterations of patient status can happen swiftly since providers are able to readily access information. Trending of vita signs of a patient is often accessible and there are interpretation, systematization, and arrangement of data. Health professionals can utilize this knowledge in formalizing a suitable action plan.
The continued evolution of nursing informatics as a specialty and/or the continued emergence of new technologies might impact interprofessional interactions making clinical practice to be basically team based. The teams will comprise of patients along with their family members, interprofessional teams, and a variety of virtual devices that will all be connected. Teams will function across organizational boundaries and will be structured around a certain patient. It will be necessary for sharing and clarification of goals and definition and acceptance of roles (Nagle et al, 2017).

VAP PICOT Question Example

VAP PICOT Question Example

I need a PICOT question that deals with nursing research independently, it cannot be including anything that deals with medication or treatment since we will not be ordering the medications, etc. I also need a \”clinical significance\” portion explaining what the significance of the PICOT question is in the healthcare field.

Identification of the Nursing Problem

VAP (Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia) is a growing concern among critical patients admitted in ICU settings. As supported by Zuckerman, (2016), the incidence of VAP is increasing gradually among adult patients admitted in ICU settings under mechanical ventilation. VAP PICOT Question Example.

ORDER A PLAGIARISM FREE PAPER NOW

            Clinical significance

VAP is a major cause of prolonged admissions, morbidity, mortality and additional medical costs in the US. According to Villar et al. (2016), VAP occurs between 48-72 hours after intubation. It contributes to half of the hospital-acquired pneumonia infections with an 8-40% prevalence. An estimated 85% of hospital-acquired pneumonia is linked to intubation.  Annually in the US, there are between 250,000-300,000 cases of VAP with a 0-50% mortality (Zuckerman, 2016) VAP PICOT Question Example. VAP   has organizational, financial, individual and psychological impacts. At the organizational level, it results in additional healthcare costs and lowers the safety and quality of care, which ultimately results in loss of revenue (Zuckerman, 2016). Healthcare staff may be stressed due to a patient’s deteriorating health status, which negatively impacts healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. Families are affected both economically and psychologically in terms of saving more household income to cater to medical needs besides dealing with the psychological stress of prolonged sickness VAP PICOT Question Example.

            Solution

According to Li et al. (2015) oral chlorhexidine is an effective reduction and prevention approach of VAP. It reduces the bacterial colonization of the oral cavity as the major pathogen that causes infections.

PICOT Question: Among intubated or mechanically ventilated patients in the ICU aged 45 years or older(P), does the use of oral chlorhexidine(I) compared to no chlorhexidine(C) help to reduce the incidence of VAP(O) within 8 weeks(T)? VAP PICOT Question Example.

PICOT Format

Population-intubated or mechanically ventilated patients in the ICU aged 45 years or older

Intervention-Use of oral chlorhexidine

Comparison-no oral chlorhexidine VAP PICOT Question Example

Outcome- reduce the incidence of VAP

Time-8 weeks
