1. OVERVIEW
Nursing & Health Sciences (NHS) is a leading international journal focused on the global exchange of knowledge in nursing and health science, as well as advancing research and practice across health disciplines. The journal provides a forum for articles reporting on original research, systematic and scholarly reviews focused on health science, clinical practice and education from around the world.
Established in 1999, this was the first nursing and health sciences journal to be fully published in English in Japan. The journal is affiliated with the Society for Nursing and Health Sciences at Yamaguchi University and provides readers with a deeper understanding of health care internationally, and the opportunity to enrich their own practices to improve health outcomes. 3. MANUSCRIPT CATEGORIES AND SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Preprint Policy
Nursing & Health Sciences will consider for review articles previously available as preprints. Authors may also post the submitted version of a manuscript to a preprint server at any time. Authors are requested to update any pre-publication versions with a link to the final published article. Please read Wiley’s Preprints Policy.
Categories
Authors from all health disciplines are invited to submit manuscripts and benefit from our strong reputation, international readership, and rapid publication times. Our main criteria for evaluating manuscripts center on scientific quality, originality and impact, as well as relevance to an international readership.
The types of articles published in NHS include: Nursing and Health Sciences Research Guide
- Original research, including interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research irrespective of design and methods, related to clinical practice, education, health management, health service delivery and evaluation, or public health policy and practice
- Research methodology
- Systematic reviews of research evidence (qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods); meta-analyses, meta-syntheses following PRISMA guidelines (narrative or traditional literature reviews are not accepted for publication)
- Scoping reviews
- Education articles
- Scholarly papers presenting in-depth analysis and discussion of philosophical, theoretical, conceptual, professional practice, policy issues or innovations in health
- Brief reports of original studies or evaluations
- Commentaries and responses to commentaries on previous articles published in NHS (include all details of the published article)
- Case reports, pilot studies, and research protocols, including protocols for systematic reviews, are not accepted for publication
- Manuscripts concerning the development and testing of the psychometric properties of instruments across cultures will not be considered for publication unless the authors can show that their research adds significantly to the literature in the field, the findings show something novel, and it is of interest to international readers.

Priority is given to research that:
- adds to current knowledge
- shows depth, rigor, originality, and a high standard of presentation
- is of high scientific quality, with methods and analysis appropriate to the research question(s)
- is relevant to an international readership
- follows the applicable reporting guidelines
- is current – data within 5 years
- is likely to contribute to improvements in clinical practice, health care policy, education or further research

- PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews and meta-analyses, including: SR protocols need to follow PRISMA-P reporting guidelines, SRs need to demonstrably have used (and cited) an internationally recognised method (such as Cochrane or JBI methodology) and the submitted SR manuscript needs to cite the protocol registration number in PROSPERO as well as be reported in accordance with PRISMA 2020 Nursing and Health Sciences Research Guide.

Clinical Trial Registration
The journal requires that clinical trials are prospectively registered in a publicly accessible database such as http://clinicaltrials.gov/ and clinical trial registration numbers should be included in all papers that report their results. Authors are asked to include the name of the trial register and the clinical trial registration number in the title page. If the trial is not registered, or was registered retrospectively, the reasons for this should be explained.

Cover Letter
A cover letter should be included in the ‘Cover Letter Field’ of the ScholarOne system. The text can be entered directly into the field or uploaded as a file. The cover letter should include:
- Statement to confirm that the manuscript has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
- An authorship statement: This must acknowledge i) that all authors listed meet the authorship criteria according to the latest guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors and ii) that all authors are in agreement with the manuscript.
- Statement that all authors have approved the content before submission, or resubmission. At NHS it is our policy not to accept manuscripts with more than six authors, unless specific evidence is provided to show that a large number of co-authors is warranted (for example in a large scale national or international study).
- Conflict of interest statement. Authors are required to disclose any possible conflict of interest when submitting a paper. If the author does not have any conflict of interest the following statement should be included: “No conflict of interest has been declared by the author(s).”
- Funding statement. Specify sources of funding (institutional, private and corporate financial support) for the work reported in their paper.
- Statement that the research conforms to the provisions of the Declaration of Helsinki (as revised in Brazil 2013). All participants gave informed consent for the research, and that their anonymity was preserved.
- Statement that the protocol for the research project was approved by a suitably constituted research ethics committee of the institution within which the work was undertaken and include the title of the committee(s) and research approval number in the cover letter as well as the manuscript.
- Permissions. Statement that permission has been received from the copyright holder to use and translate copyrighted instruments or software employed in the research and this should be also recorded in the manuscript. Proof, in English, should be supplied. If no permission was required (e.g. instruments or measures are in public domain) please provide the reference/link detailing this.
