categories: Expected Changes of Pregnancy and Pregnancy at Risk. Each category includes
four sub-categories. The Expected Changes of Pregnancy category includes Physical,

Expected Changes of Pregnancy
Because pregnancy is a normal process, a pregnant woman is typically able to manage most
of the problems or issues that occur with some support from healthcare providers. Most
women progress through pregnancy without complications, requiring little specialised medical
or nursing intervention, yet prenatal care is essential for the health and well-being of both the
pregnant woman and the developing fetus. Prenatal Nursing Care
The Expected Changes of Pregnancy category includes problems or issues that occur during
healthy pregnancies. The nursing interventions in this category focus primarily on
surveillance, support, and education. The prenatal nurse monitors the health status of the
mother and foetus, provides emotional support, and teaches the pregnant woman and her
family about physiological and psychological changes during pregnancy, foetal development,
labour and childbirth, and care for the newborn.
Pregnancy at Risk
The second category in the Catalogue organising framework is Pregnancy at Risk. This
category includes the nursing diagnoses, interventions and outcomes for pregnant women
who need additional healthcare provider interventions to manage problems or issues that are
or may contribute to pregnancy complications.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2014), the most severe
complications of pregnancy affect more than 50,000 women in the United States every year.
These women need additional nursing care and support based on the seriousness of the risk
or disease. Some prenatal related symptoms, such as anemia, bleeding, infection, and
vomiting, are more common and require medical intervention. Other, more serious
complications, for example preeclampsia and eclampsia, can be fatal. The statistical data of
the Global Burden of Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy revealed that 2.3% of all
preeclampsia cases resulted in eclampsia, and these hypertensive disorders are responsible

According to VDSS (2021), Virginia law for mandated reporter states that anyone can report suspected child abuse or neglect. Under Virginia law, certain professionals are required to report child abuse when acting in a professional capacity. The Texas Board of Nursing (BON) advocates for a position statement developed and implemented by NCSBN that nurses ought to embrace an awareness of potential consequences for disclosing confidential patient information on social media. The NCSBN also incorporates a policy for nurses to manage professional boundaries, ethics, and compliance with state and federal law when engaging in social media platforms. The obligation to protect patient privacy and confidentiality extends to all environments, including the health facility and social media platform. For example, in Texas, when a nurse is accused of breaching and disclosing a patient’s privacy, any nurse within the department must report the matter to Texas BON.

The breaching of trust involving identifying patients by names on social media platforms attracts the board action immediately. The 22 Tex. Admin. Code 5 217.11(1) (E), (K) on BON regulation laws in Texas provides a legal system platform on which the state board can pursue individual nurse contribution to disclosure of patients’ information without owner consent. In code 15.29 of Texas BON, the standards statements provision address professional boundaries, including social media use by nurses. Failure for nurses’ colleagues or individuals to share mistrust breach incidents by other nurses with Texas BON can result in disciplinary action for cover-up and firing of the incident’s perpetrators.

Social media platforms have saturated various industries, including nursing, where nurses can connect to personal and professional lives. The significant facilitated conversations include sharing ideas with colleagues on health care advancement measures and best current practices in healthcare. Incidents of nurses’ harmful use of social media platforms have been on the rise through breaking patient confidentiality and privacy (Casella et al., 2014). That’s a wise move, Tara… Ana. One way to identify stakeholders is to brainstorm. Get a reasonable group of people together in a meeting room and identify as many names or categories as possible. I have been in some meetings where the facilitator gives everyone a stack of sticky-notes and a marker and they just write down as many ideas as possible in a 10 or 15 minute time period. Whatever your technique, after you’ve generated a list, then discuss the list and try to determine if the person or category represents a primary or secondary or a key stakeholder. If you aren’t clear what those terms mean, there are some good websites and other resources that might help you see new ways to think about who stakeholders are.

You also should try to determine who might resist the project and think about ways of persuading them of its value. Not all stakeholders will be champions, but the more you can do to keep from creating adversaries, the better.

I had a colleague at another hospital I worked at who would create a stakeholder matrix – just a chart or spreadsheet – that listed all the primary and key stakeholders and well as their specific values and concerns. Doing that really helped him target his proposal and argument. He could address the things the stakeholders had concerns about and in that way, build support.
