Leadership can be defined as ‘‘a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal’’ (Northouse, 2004). This means here is relationship in leadership. Examples of relationally focused leadership styles include transformational leadership which motivates others to do more than they originally intended and often more than they thought possible, individualized consideration, which focuses on understanding the needs of each follower and works continuously to get them to develop to their full potential, and resonant leadership that inspires, coaches, develops and includes others even in the face of adversity (Stantou, et al., 2017). Transformational leaders use idealized influence, inspiration and motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration to achieve superior results and resonant styles are based on the emotional intelligence of the leaders (Stantou, et al., 2017). In task focused or non-relationally focused leadership styles can be categorized as management by exception, laissez-faire, transactional leadership, dissonant leadership styles, and instrumental leadership. In Active Management-by-Exception, the leadership focuses on monitoring task execution for any problems that might arise and correcting those problems to maintain current performance levels.   NURS 6053 Discussion Reply 2

In laissez-faire styles, they are passive avoidance of issues, decision making and accountability and only tend to react only after problems had reaches a critical point and often avoids making any decisions at all. Passive– avoidant leadership tends to react only after problems have become serious to take corrective action, and often avoids making any decisions at all (Stantou, et al., 2017). Transactional leadership emphasize the transaction or exchange that takes place among leaders, colleagues and followers to accomplish the work (Bass and Avolio, 1994). Dissonant leadership is characterized by pacesetting and commanding styles that undermine the emotional foundations required to support and promote staff success (Goleman et al., 2002). Instrumental leadership focuses on the strategic and task-oriented developmental functions of leaders (Stantou, et al., 2017). Initiating structure referred to the degree to which leaders articulate clear role expectations, create well defined communication channels and focus on tasks and attaining goals (Judge et al., 2004).

Where I do PRN job, my director used transformational leadership style. This has made many of us to practice collective responsibility. This hospital has a high nurse-retention level because of this humane leadership.   NURS 6053 Discussion Reply 2

Individuals And A Family As A Client Case Study

Mila Jefferies is a recently widowed 36-year-old mother of two children and the daughter of two aging parents in the southeastern United States. She and her children have recently relocated from an urban neighborhood to a rural town to care for her parents, Robert and Susan. The move involved a job change for Elizabeth, a change in schools for the children, and an increased distance from the family of the children’s deceased father. Mila’s older child is a 5-year-old daughter, recently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and dyslexia. The younger of the two children is a 3-year-old boy with asthma that has been difficult to control since the move. Robert is a 72-year-old Methodist minister who recently suffered a stroke, leaving him with diminished motor function on his left side and difficulty swallowing. Susan is 68 years old and suffers from fibromyalgia, limiting her ability to assist with the daily care of her husband. She has experienced an increase in generalized pain, difficulty sleeping, and worsening fatigue since her husband’s stroke. Individuals And A Family As A Client Case Study

Week 2 Discussion Question Paper

Week 2 Discussion Question Paper

Where do you see yourself and your understanding of truth on the continuum of realism and idealism?

How would you define person? Look at the following attributes given to a person: (1) the ability to think and conceptualize, (2) the capacity to interact with others, (3) the need for boundaries, and (4) the use of language (Doheny, Cook, & Stopper, 1997). Would you agree? What about Maslow’s description of humanness in terms of a hierarchy of needs with self-actualization at the top? Another possibility is that persons are the major focus of nursing. Do you see humans as good or evil? Week 2 Discussion Question Paper

Where do you see yourself and your understanding of truth on the continuum of realism and idealism?

What are your beliefs about the major concepts in nursing—person, environment, health, nursing?

Do you believe there is more than one right answer to situations? How do you value the whole individual? What barriers prevent us from responding to the contextual needs of our patients?

Do I believe in health care for everyone? Does health care for everyone have value to me as a person? Does it have value to me as a nurse? What value does universal health care have to my patients?

How does my personal philosophy fit with the context of nursing? Does it fit? What areas, if any, need assessing?

Discuss how conflicts can occur through the application of research in politics and policy development. How can the impact be managed to avoid any potential pitfalls? Specific Theory in Nursing Essay

Politics, Policy, Science, and Evidence

The synergistic, interactional nature of the concepts politics, policy, and science can be conflictual. Understanding the definitions is pertinent to learning the relationship between each:

ORDER A FREE-PLAGIARISM PAPER HERE

  1. Politics: process of influencing the allocation of scarce resources;
  2. Policy: deliberate course of action;
  3. Science: study, documentation, and collection of evidence pertaining to observable naturally occurring objects, processes, and phenomenon in ways that can be reproduced objectively to verify the results; and

Evidence: developed by research such as randomized controlled trials, surveys, polls, systematic reviews, meta -analysis, and data mining (Mason, Leavitt, & Chaffee, 2014, p. 307).

Influencing Policy

The US government has been involved in scientific research affecting policy since World War II. Examples of this include the National Academy of Sciences and the Environmental Protection Agency. In order to avoid conflict in science and politics knowledge of critiquing research findings, maintaining scientific inquiry, translating research findings to policymaking, and using appropriate data to shape policy is necessary. Specific Theory in Nursing Essay

Research is beneficial to policymaking and its inherent nature because it can expose existing problems in politics that need “fixing”. It is challenging to change the mindset of policy makers through strategic agendas, but it is possible with aggressive planning initiatives for advancing nursing healthcare agendas.

Health service research or HSR focuses on research for improving healthcare systems. Data is available from a multitude of sources.  Box 10.2 and Figure 10.1 (Mason et al., 2021) present an example of the process of data informing policy changes and the impact on reform.  In addition, qualitative measures exist. This research data serves to inform the healthcare decision making processes for advancing health policy and improving quality care and patient safety. Specific Theory in Nursing Essay
