Treating Childhood Abuse

In 2012, statistics in the United States indicated that state CPS agencies received 3.4 million referrals for child abuse and neglect. Of these, nearly 700,000 children were found to be victims of maltreatment: 18% were victims of physical abuse and 78% were victims of neglect (CDC, 2014). Child sexual abuse makes up roughly 10% of child maltreatment cases in the United States (CDC, 2014).

The CDC considers sexual abuse at any age a form of violence. Child abuse of any kind can lead to an increased state of inflammatory markers in adulthood, as well as multiple physical illnesses and high-risk behavior such as alcoholism and drug abuse. If a PMHNP identifies child abuse, there may be a need to report the abuse to authorities.

Once able to provide treatment, the PMHNP can be instrumental in reducing the long-term effects of child abuse.

In this Discussion, you recommend strategies for assessing for abuse and analyze influences of media and social media on mental health. You also evaluate the need for mandatory reporting of abuse.

                                                                             Assignment

· What strategies would you employ to assess the patient (Child) for abuse?

Explain why you selected these strategies.

· How might exposure to the media and/or social media affect the patient?

· What type of mandatory reporting (if any) is required in this case? Why?

PLEASE, INCLUDE INTRODUCTION, CONCLUSION, 3 OR MORE REFERENCES LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD, AND ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS AS INSTRUCTED.

PLANNED CHANGE IN A DEPARTMENT

To prepare:

Review Chapter 8 in the course text. Focus on Kurt Lewin’s change theory, and contrast it with other classic change models and strategies.

Reflect on problems, inefficiencies, and critical issues within a specific department, unit, or area in your organization or one with which you are familiar. Select one issue as a focal point for this assignment, and consider a change that could be made to address the issue.

Think about how the change would align with the organization’s mission, vision, and values as well as relevant professional standards.

Using one of the change models or strategies discussed in Chapter 8, begin formulating a plan for implementing the change within the department/unit. Outline the steps that you and/or others should follow to facilitate the change effort. Align these steps to the change model or strategy you selected.

Determine who should be involved in initiating and managing the change. Consider the skills and characteristics that are necessary to facilitate this change effort.

To complete:

By Day 7

Write a 3- to 5-page paper (page count does not include title and reference page) that addresses the following:

  1. Identify a problem, inefficiency, or issue within a specific department/unit.
  2. Describe a specific, realistic change that could be made to address the issue.
  3. Summarize how the change would align with the organization’s mission, vision, and values as well as relevant professional standards.
  4. Identify a change model or strategy to guide your planning for implementing the change. Provide a rationale for your selection.
  5. Outline the steps that you and/or others would follow to facilitate the change. Align these steps to your selected change model or strategy.
  6. Explain who would be involved in initiating and managing this change. Describe the skills and characteristics that would be necessary to facilitate the change effort.

HEALTH BEHAVIORS

Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFZ1TEDJlqI

Read this scenario:

You have been hired as Assistant Manager of a Home Health Care Agency. The agency offers a wide range of skilled medical services such as nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy from qualified medical professionals. The agency also provides home health aide services including assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing and eating.

Your supervisor told you that she recently received a call from an advocate whom an employee consulted via the Employee Assistance Program because the employee felt that she had been treated unfairly after contracting an illness. She explained that a few months ago, one of your agency’s home health aides, Sara, became ill. Sara had been coughing for approximately six weeks, lost weight without trying, had no appetite, was having difficulty sleeping, and had an intermittent fever. She became concerned and went to see a healthcare professional who diagnosed her with active tuberculosis (TB).

Sara missed a lot of time from work while completing treatment for TB. Her physician cleared her to return to work after she was no longer contagious. Upon returning to work, Sara felt isolated because her boss and co-workers refused to spend time with her. She heard that someone from the agency’s Human Resources Department told her co-workers her diagnosis. The stressful circumstances at work became even worse when another home health aide started to display the same symptoms Sara had.

Your supervisor has asked you to review the entire situation and how it was handled by the agency.

Now, in a complete 600-800 words paper, address the following questions: (DO NOT WRITE QUESTIONS IN THE PAPER)

  1. Identify relevant “health behavior(s)” that contributes to increasing and/or decreasing risk factor for contracting the disease.
  2. Identify and describe a surveillance system that monitors disease or health-related risk factors in the United States.
  3. Was risk communication essential for Sara’s co-workers? Why or why not?
  4. Describe the key components in developing crisis and emergency risk communication messages.

Your paper must include:

  • · 100% originality
  • · 600-800 words count excluding title and reference page
  • · Proper introduction and conclusion
  • · 3 credible references cited in APA

PICOT STATEMENT AND LITERATURE SEARCH

Qualitative data has been described as voluminous and sometimes overwhelming to the researcher. In what ways could a researcher manage and organize the data?

Topic 2 DQ2

Nursing research is used to study a dilemma or a problem in nursing. Examine a problem you have seen in nursing. Why should it be studied? Justify your rationale.

Assignment 1 PICOT Statement and Literature

The first step of the EBP process is to develop a question from the nursing practice problem of interest. Select a practice problem of interest to use as the focus of your research. Start with the patient and identify the clinical problems or issues that arise from clinical care.

Following the PICOT format, write a PICOT statement in your selected practice problem area of interest, which is applicable to your proposed capstone project. The PICOT statement will provide a framework for your capstone project (the project students must complete during their final course in the RN-BSN program of study).

Conduct a literature search to locate research articles focused on your selected practice problem of interest. This literature search should include both quantitative and qualitative peer-reviewed research articles to support your practice problem. Select six peer-reviewed research articles which will be utilized through the next 5 weeks as reference sources. Be sure that some of the articles use qualitative research and that some use quantitative research.

Create a reference list in which the six articles are listed. Beneath each reference include the article’s abstract. The completed assignment should have a title page and a reference list with abstracts. Suggestions for locating qualitative and quantitative research articles from credible sources:

1. Use a library database such as CINAHL Complete for your search.

2. Using the advanced search page check the box beside “Research Article” in the “Limit Your Results” section.

3. When setting up the search you can type your topic in the top box, then add quantitative or qualitative as a search term in one of the lower boxes. Research articles often are described as qualitative or quantitative. To narrow/broaden your search, remove the words qualitative and quantitative and include words that narrow or broaden your main topic.

For example: Diabetes and pediatric and dialysis. To determine what research design was used, review the abstract and the methods section of the article. The author will provide a description of data collection using qualitative or quantitative methods. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. https://www.guideline.gov/(week 1)

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 250-350 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.

How healthcare services are provided is constantly changing.  While historically, emergency departments (ED) was physically located within the hospital building, the standalone Emergency Department also referred to as the Free Standing Emergency Department (FSED) has become a new model for delivery of emergency services within communities.

Consider yourself in the role of a consultant to a healthcare organization, financial manager, or ED administrative director. You have been asked to provide the CEO and leadership with pros and cons of establishing a Free Standing Emergency Department.  You are aware of the news stories about these types of facilities, and you will want to review The Washington Post article at this link as you prepare your review.

Include in your discussion:

  • Differences between off campus emergency departments (OCEDs) and independent free standing emergency centers (IFECs).  What would be the advantage to the healthcare organization of an OCED?
  • How would services provided be reimbursed either by private insurance or Medicare/Medicaid?
  • What are the advantages or disadvantages to the community of an FSED?  Would members of the community favor an OCED or an IFEC?
  • Why are most of the FSEDs located in Texas, Colorado and Ohio?
  • Based on your research and the news stories about FSEDs, what would you recommend to the CEO and Board of Directors?

NOTE: Use at least two scholarly references and cite using APA format.
