Legal, and Ethical Standards for Advanced Practice

What type of drug should you prescribe based on your patient’s diagnosis? How much of the drug should the patient receive? How often should the drug be administered? When should the drug not be prescribed? Are there individual patient factors that could create complications when taking the drug? Should you be prescribing drugs to this patient? Legal, and Ethical Standards for Advanced Practice

These are some of the questions you might consider when selecting a treatment plan for a patient. As an advanced practice nurse prescribing drugs, you are held accountable for people’s lives on a daily basis. Patients and their families will often place trust in you because of your position. With this trust comes power and responsibility, as well as an ethical and legal obligation to “do no harm.” It is important that you are aware of current professional, legal, and ethical standards for advanced practice nurses with prescriptive authority. In this Discussion, you explore ethical and legal implications of scenarios and consider how to appropriately respond.

Scenario 1:

As a nurse practitioner, you prescribe medications for your patients. You make an error when prescribing medication to a 5-year-old patient. Rather than dosing him appropriately, you prescribe a dose suitable for an adult. Legal, and Ethical Standards for Advanced Practice

Scenario 2:

A friend calls and asks you to prescribe a medication for her. You have this autonomy, but you don’t have your friend’s medical history. You write the prescription anyway.

Scenario 3:

You see another nurse practitioner writing a prescription for her husband who is not a patient of the nurse practitioner. The prescription is for a narcotic. You can’t decide whether or not to report the incident.

Scenario 4:

During your lunch break at the hospital, you read a journal article on pharmacoeconomics. You think of a couple of patients who have recently mentioned their financial difficulties. You wonder if some of the expensive drugs you have prescribed are sufficiently managing the patients’ health conditions and improving their quality of life.

To prepare:

· Review Chapter 1 of the Arcangelo and Peterson text, as well as articles from the American Nurses Association, Anderson and Townsend, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and Philipsend and Soeken. Legal, and Ethical Standards for Advanced Practice

· Select one of the four scenarios listed above.

· Consider the ethical and legal implications of the scenario for all stakeholders involved such as the prescriber, pharmacist, patient, and the patient’s family.

· Think about two strategies that you, as an advanced practice nurse, would use to guide your ethically and legally responsible decision-making in this scenario.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post an explanation of the ethical and legal implications of the scenario you selected on all stakeholders involved such as the prescriber, pharmacist, patient, and the patient’s family. Describe two strategies that you, as an advanced practice nurse, would use to guide your decision making in this scenario.

Healthcare professionals Support Providers

Overview: Healthcare professionals provide support throughout the cycle of life, from birth to death. They have an obligation to provide humane and compassionate care to patients while adhering to their specific field’s code of ethics. Sometimes, healthcare professionals are privy to discussions between family members regarding end-of-life issues. In some instances, a healthcare facility may be in charge of providing information about advance directives to patients. Healthcare professionals should calibrate their own moral beliefs to align with their ethical and legal obligations. Healthcare professionals Support Providers  By studying issues contained within real-life cases, healthcare professionals can come to terms with their beliefs and obligations relative to end-of-life issues. Ethical Dimensions Of Research Studies

Ethical Dimensions Of Research Studies

In the best-selling book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (Skloot, 2010), the author highlights the true story of an African-American woman who died in 1951 from cervical cancer. What makes her story unique is that prior to her death, cells from her tumor were removed and successfully grown in a petri dish. This was the first time scientists were able to successfully replicate cells outside the body, and it is estimated that billions of Lacks’ cells have been used in medical research. However, Henrietta Lacks was never asked for permission to take a sample and her family was never made aware of the widespread use of her cells. Although the culturing of her cells has been pivotal for advancing research, strong ethical concerns later arose about using these cells without patient or family approval. This week’s readings describe historical examples of unethical research, such as a study of syphilis among African-American men in which treatment was withheld and a study in which live cancer cells were injected into elderly patients. Today, stricter controls that seek to protect study participants are placed on researchers, but breaches still occur. Careful attention must be given toward preventing unethical behavior. In this Discussion, you explore ethical considerations and issues in research.

To prepare:

  • Select a current health-related case involving research ethics. (If none come to mind, browse the Internet to familiarize yourself with recent cases.)
  • As you review the case that you have selected, reflect on the ethical principles discussed in “What Are the Major Ethical Issues in Conducting Research?” article found in this week’s Learning Resources. Which principles were breached in the case you have identified?

Post  a (1) description of the case that you selected and the ethical issues involved. (2) Analyze the ethical principles that were breached by the researchers or organizations in your selected case as well as the possible cause of the breach(es). (3) Suggest how the research might have been conducted differently to avoid or minimize the ethical problems. (4) Discuss how research can be done on sensitive issues while still protecting the rights of the rights of the research subjects Ethical Dimensions Of Research Studies

Holistic and Manipulation Approach to Treatment

Holistic and Manipulation Approach to Treatment

Urgent Rush time sensitive

Note to writer from me: this is obviously going to have to be made up/ fiction like I/you actually performed this exercise. After studying the 2 PDF files, start with assignment please. Below in Red is the assignment needed to be completed.  Holistic and Manipulation Approach to Treatment

(the 2 PDF files are attached)

After reading the article on Touch and NeuroFasia Processing (NFP) and viewing the PowerPoint Presentation on how to do NFP, try out NFP. Here are the guidelines:

ORDER A FREE-PLAGIARISM PAPER HERE

Treat yourself with NFP in one of 2 ways:

Method 1: (appox. 10 hours) Choose an organ to treat. If for example you have a cough you could choose your anterior lungs. Liver is always a good choice; we could all use detoxification of our liver. Put one hand on that organ and your second hand on the first process center and hold it for at least 20-30 minutes. Then keep you first hand on the chosen organ and put second hand on the next process center and hold, continue though all process centers. You may do this over a period of days or weeks. A chart can be printed to help you keep track.

Method 2: This more efficient and only takes one hour, but requires you have 6-10 volunteers. You lie on a table and allow your volunteers to put their hands on each process center. Therefore, all process centers are connected to all process centers at the same time. Hold for one hour. Your volunteers can reposition during the hour. This way allows you to treat all organs and process centers at the same time.

Treat someone else using NFP.

After you have experienced NFP either as the person being treated or as the person giving treatment, report on the following:  *Must be at least 250 – 300 words; include 1-2 in-text citations and references.

-How did you feel about this assignment?

-If you found volunteers to either help in your treatment or to be treated by you, how did you find them?

-Why did you chose to do this assignment the way you did it?

-Please respond to at least 2 peers. I will be doing this after the submission of the discussion that you have done. Holistic and Manipulation Approach to Treatment

Peer responses must be 150-200 words each.

Manual therapies include, but are not limited to, chiropractic therapy, massage therapies, osteopathy, Cranial Sacral therapy, and techniques done by physical therapists and other practitioners; for example, Strain Counter Strain, Myofasia Release, Applied Kinesiology, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, Reflexology, and Neuro Fasia Processing.

Manual therapies manipulate bone and soft tissue to promote healing. Manipulation as a form of treatment is an ancient healing art that has been shared across time by various cultures.

Manipulation decreases pressure in the blood vessels and nerves and improves function of the manipulated area. Each type of manipulation emphasis a part of the body.

Manipulation is currently categorized into mechanical, neurological, and physiological. For example chiropractic care is mechanical and manipulates the spine to produce effects on the nervous system. Massage therapy is also mechanical and emphasizes muscle. Cranial Sacral is neurological and manipulates the head and spinal cord. Myofacial release, Neuro Fasia Processing (NFP), and other advanced manual therapies work on soft tissue and physiological function.

Osteopathic Doctors (DOs) are license doctors and can prescribe medication. DOs take a holistic and manipulation approach to treatment. They, like all manual therapists, support the fact that if the body is structurally sound it can and will accomplish healing. Holistic and Manipulation Approach to Treatment

NR 443 Milestone 3: Intervention and Evaluation

Purpose

The purpose of this PowerPoint presentation is to provide an opportunity to develop a community health nursing intervention and evaluation tool for your identified community health problem (described in Milestone 2: Assessment and Diagnosis) and identify the components of the nursing process as it applies to a community or population.

Course Outcomes

Scenario

You are a Community/Public Health Nurse (C/PHN) working in your setting of choice. You have identified a community health problem and have analyzed the data collected from your windshield survey and assessment & diagnosis assignments (the first two milestones). You have decided on one nursing intervention and need your organization’s approval for funding of this intervention. Your leadership team has agreed to listen to your proposal.

Directions

  • Choose a community health nurse setting. Some examples of settings are school nurse, parish nurse, home health nurse, nurse working in the health department (be specific to what area in the health department, e.g., WIC, STD clinic, health promotion, maternal-child health, etc.)
  • Introduction: Introduce the identified problem, the purpose of the presentation, and reiterate at least one or two important findings that demonstrate this problem in your community (average of 1–2 slides)
  • Proposed Intervention: Propose one community health nursingintervention that would address one or more of the major direct or indirect factors that contribute to the problem. Keep in mind the Public Health Intervention Wheel (Nies& McEwen, p. 14, figure 1-3) as your framework (average of 3-4 slides). Your intervention needs to be specific: Community health nursing intervention that would address one or more of the major direct or indirect factors that contribute to the problem

withdrawal symptoms from a drug habit

Ethical Dilemma Discussion Board due 8/28/16

The following is a fictitious scenario:

Following an automobile accident, a 16-year-old boy who had recently escaped from a detention center was brought to the hospital emergency department by ambulance. The patient seemed to be alert and claimed to be suffering withdrawal symptoms from a drug habit. The patient claimed that he participated in a methadone treatment program. The physician administered 40 milligrams of methadone. The patient needed blood but refused it. After being observed in the emergency department for several hours, the patient was placed on a medical-surgical unit for observation. The following morning it was not possible to awaken him, and he was pronounced dead. It was discovered that he had never been an addict or in a methadone treatment program. Rather, the previous night he had been drinking beer and taking librium. He had not told this to hospital authorities. His estate sued the physician. withdrawal symptoms from a drug habit

  2. How would you defend the defendant? And what are your defense options?
  3. If you were on the jury, what would your finding be, based on only the facts as presented above?
  4. If you find the defendant responsible, what damages would you award, and for what reasons?
