Implications of drug use, alcohol consumption, dietary habits, and environmental exposures during pregnancy, and you consider ways to educate pregnant women about such risks

When caring for pregnant women, it is important to care for the whole person. This means you not only manage the pregnancy and treat conditions, but you also promote healthy behaviors and good lifestyle choices. Through health promotion, you can help to ensure the safety of both the mother and the baby. Your role in health promotion is to identify health risks that might result in pregnancy complications, educate patients on these risks, and provide the necessary support to help patients mitigate these risks. In this Discussion, you examine implications of drug use, alcohol consumption, dietary habits, and environmental exposures during pregnancy, and you consider ways to educate pregnant women about such risks.

To prepare:  Due 10.10.17 by 12 noon

1. Review Chapter 2 of the Tharpe et al. text and the

2. Article from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in this week’s  Learning Resources:

3. Consider lifestyle changes that pregnant women must make in relation to smoking. Select one of these topics to be the focus of an educational media piece you would create for health promotion during pregnancy.

· 4. Think about the patient population that you treat within your practicum setting. Consider ways to educate these patients on health promotion as it relates to the topic you selected. Then, consider the types of educational pieces, such as posters, that might be most effective with your patient population.

Post a detailed description of the educational media piece you would create for health promotion during pregnancy. Explain why you selected the particular topic (SMOKING), as well as why you selected the type of media (POSTER),  and how and why it is suitable for your patient population.

The Health Care Problem/Public Policy Issue (Nursing Shortage)

Original No Plagiarism **

Overview of Assignment

Please take a moment to watch this Assignment Introduction, or read the presentation transcript.

Directions

Within your group, you will work to create a WebQuest. A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented assignment. Look at sample WebQuests (search online) to see how creative you can be. The format is divided into sections or independent pages. Think of each section as a section on a paper.

For your WebQuest presentation, you will choose a problem that is a public policy issue. (Nursing Shortage) You will define the health care problem.

You may be working in a certain clinical area and may see a need for more research or alternatives to treatment options. The problem may be a professional problem that you as an advance practice nurse are encountering in terms of autonomy or reimbursement for your services. It could be a workplace safety issue or a management issue. It could be a general societal problem that needs to be brought to the attention of the legislators.

Your WebQuest Presentation:

  • Most of the information for your WebQuest will come from the Web. However, you are expected to use the Library to supplement the information that you find on the Web.
  • You must also use a minimum of three graphics or images to illustrate your points. The graphics can go on any of the pages in the WebQuest and you can use more if you like. The graphics do not substitute for the text that is to explain each section.
  • You are expected to use analysis in each of the sections and provide details and explanations in each area. The Web resources are to validate what your position or argument is.
  • You will use this WebQuest PowerPoint template to build your WebQuest. Before you begin your work however, watch this video to learn how to edit the template to create your unique WebQuest.

Movenote Presentation

In one section of your WebQuest, you will include a link to a Movenote presentation that you create. Movenote is an online tool that allows you to combine slides (e.g., PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Prezi slides) and video, displayed as an inset. The video will be of you, on camera, as you narrate. In this way, you can combine the two, presenting your ideas in video as you display your slides. Be sure to review How to Use Movenote for Your Assignment Presentation before you begin.

In your Movenote presentation, you will give a 5-minute talk with slides, as if you were speaking at a press conference delivering your message to a politician or to the community as a whole about what you have identified as the problem. Your presentation should explain why your identified problem needs to be addressed.

The following should be incorporated in your WebQuest:

  • The health care problem/public policy issue
  • A link to your Movenote presentation
  • A transcript of the Movenote presentation
  • What the government’s response to this problem has been previously (i.e., what has been done in terms of laws, rules, regulations, or programs; if the issue has never been addressed, you will discuss what needs to be done)
  • Your assessment of the legislative and policy-making strategies that influence health care services
  • Your proposed bill, either on the state or federal level, advancing your proposed change
  • Why these changes are important and a discussion of what opportunities nurses have to become involved in the design of this program
  • Your advice on how the program can be implemented
  • A summary of the Project
  • The credits page

To view the Grading Rubric for this Assignment, please visit the Grading Rubrics section of the Course Resources.

Assignment Requirements:

Before finalizing your work, you should:

  • be sure to read the Assignment description carefully (as displayed above);
  • consult the Grading Rubric (under the Course Resources) to make sure you have included everything necessary; and
  • utilize spelling and grammar check to minimize errors.

The relative value of each organization's services to individuals and families in the vulnerable population

Report Issue

Assignment 1: Sociocultural Norms, Health, and Nursing  The discussion assignment provides a forum for discussing relevant topics for this week based on the course competencies covered.  Post a response to one of the two discussion topics below, using information from the lectures, reading assignments, library resources, and Internet resources. All responses should be posted to the appropriate topic in the Discussion Area.

Topic 1: Vulnerable Populations  As you discovered in this week’s lectures and textbook readings, numerous vulnerable populations exist in the community. Identify three local organizations in your community that deliver healthcare services to vulnerable populations. Based on your research findings, answer the following:

•Which population does each organization serve?

•What services does it provide?

•Where does it get its funding (local, state, or federal sources)?

•Evaluate the relative value of each organization’s services to individuals and families in the vulnerable population it serves.

Topic 2: Stigma Associated with Disease  Some vulnerable populations may have diseases, health impairments, and pregnancy that bring humiliation and predisposed judgment. Unfortunately, these health conditions can cause vulnerable populations to become ostracized by the general public.

•What ways would you choose to function as an advocate for vulnerable populations?

•Discuss the types of assistance you might provide to each of the following clients: ◦A 24-year-old pregnant woman who is currently homeless and unmarried ◦A 16-year-old girl who has run away from her foster home and who has an IV drug habit ◦An immigrant worker whose TB skin test just came back positive ◦An employed, married man who contracted Hepatitis B through a blood transfusion 30 years ago  Citations should conform to APA guidelines. You may use this APA Citation Helper as a convenient reference for properly citing resources or connect to the APA Style website through the APA icon below.

Quantitative Methodology: Noninterventional Designs and Methods

Assignment 1: Article Critique

DNP graduates are expected to apply research findings and integrate nursing science into evidence-based practice. To develop your ability to engage in this high level of nursing practice, you will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of a research study over the next several weeks using the concepts presented throughout Weeks 1 through 9 of the course. Your final analysis will be a 5- to 7-page paper in APA format, that includes the following:

1) Write an introduction ending with a purpose statement (e.g. “the purpose of this study is…).

2) Provide a two paragraph overviews of the study.

3)  Identify three strengths of the study and support your selection (i.e. why is this a

strength)

4)  Identify three weaknesses of the study and support your selection (i.e. why is this a

weakness)

Note: The strengths and weaknesses should be in relation to:

· Design

· Sampling

· Data collection

· Statistical analysis

· Results and discussion.

5)  Propose changes to improve the quality of the study capitalizing on the strengths and

6) improving on the weaknesses you identified in the study.

7)  Summarize the implications for nursing practice.

8) Write a conclusion for your paper

The purpose of the analysis is to help you develop a deeper understanding of the research process, to inspire you to think critically and deeply about research on a specific topic, and to strengthen your ability to integrate research findings into evidence-based nursing practice. This assignment also gives you practice in analyzing the research literature, which will support you when you begin your DNP project.

Qualitative data has been described as voluminous and sometimes overwhelming to the researcher

NRS-433V Week 2 Topic 2 DQ1

Qualitative data has been described as voluminous and sometimes overwhelming to the researcher. In what ways could a researcher manage and organize the data?

Topic 2 DQ2

Nursing research is used to study a dilemma or a problem in nursing. Examine a problem you have seen in nursing. Why should it be studied? Justify your rationale.

Assignment 1 PICOT Statement and Literature

The first step of the EBP process is to develop a question from the nursing practice problem of interest. Select a practice problem of interest to use as the focus of your research. Start with the patient and identify the clinical problems or issues that arise from clinical care. Following the PICOT format, write a PICOT statement in your selected practice problem area of interest, which is applicable to your proposed capstone project. The PICOT statement will provide a framework for your capstone project (the project students must complete during their final course in the RN-BSN program of study). Conduct a literature search to locate research articles focused on your selected practice problem of interest. This literature search should include both quantitative and qualitative peer-reviewed research articles to support your practice problem. Select six peer-reviewed research articles which will be utilized through the next 5 weeks as reference sources. Be sure that some of the articles use qualitative research and that some use quantitative research. Create a reference list in which the six articles are listed. Beneath each reference include the article’s abstract. The completed assignment should have a title page and a reference list with abstracts. Suggestions for locating qualitative and quantitative research articles from credible sources: 1. Use a library database such as CINAHL Complete for your search. 2. Using the advanced search page check the box beside “Research Article” in the “Limit Your Results” section. 3. When setting up the search you can type your topic in the top box, then add quantitative or qualitative as a search term in one of the lower boxes. Research articles often are described as qualitative or quantitative. To narrow/broaden your search, remove the words qualitative and quantitative and include words that narrow or broaden your main topic. For example: Diabetes and pediatric and dialysis. To determine what research design was used, review the abstract and the methods section of the article. The author will provide a description of data collection using qualitative or quantitative methods. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. https://www.guideline.gov/(week 1)

Organizing a small exhibition of objects of art from the cultures of Asia, Africa, and Oceania

Instructions

Exhibition of World ArtImagine you are a curator at your local city’s Museum of Art. You have been asked to organize a small exhibition of objects of art from the cultures of Asia, Africa, and Oceania. Your exhibition should include representative objects that highlight significant and essential ideas of each culture. You may plan to include actual objects in your exhibition, or photographs or models of larger structures or sculptures. Survey your course textbook and reliable internet websites to locate two art objects from each of the following five cultures: India, China, Japan, Africa, and Oceania (the Pacific Cultures), that you would like to include in your exhibition. Your objects must date to the time period we are studying in this course (1300-Present Day). You will select a total of ten objects for display in your “Exhibition of World Art.”Then, write a “museum label “for each object within a Microsoft Word document. The following should be on the “label “for each object:A photograph of the objectIdentifying information: Name of the artist (if known—otherwise, attribute the culture)Title of the workDate of the workMedium/materials used to create the workCurrent locationA paragraph of 4-5 sentences describing why the object is representative of its culture and is culturally significant. Briefly explain why you have selected the object for display. Finally, in a paragraph of 8-10 sentences, write a summarizing overview of your “Exhibition of World Art,” highlighting key similarities and distinctions between the objects you have curated. Imagine that visitors to your exhibition will read this overview as they enter your “Exhibition of World Art,” and provide them with any information or context they may need to fully appreciate the objects on display.Offer a citation of your sources for each image and the information provided as appropriate.

Child abuse of any kind can lead to an increased state of inflammatory markers in adulthood, as well as multiple physical illnesses and high-risk behavior such as alcoholism and drug abuse

                                      Discussion: Treating Childhood Abuse

In 2012, statistics in the United States indicated that state CPS agencies received 3.4 million referrals for child abuse and neglect. Of these, nearly 700,000 children were found to be victims of maltreatment: 18% were victims of physical abuse and 78% were victims of neglect (CDC, 2014). Child sexual abuse makes up roughly 10% of child maltreatment cases in the United States (CDC, 2014). The CDC considers sexual abuse at any age a form of violence. Child abuse of any kind can lead to an increased state of inflammatory markers in adulthood, as well as multiple physical illnesses and high-risk behavior such as alcoholism and drug abuse. If a PMHNP identifies child abuse, there may be a need to report the abuse to authorities. Once able to provide treatment, the PMHNP can be instrumental in reducing the long-term effects of child abuse.

In this Discussion, you recommend strategies for assessing for abuse and analyze influences of media and social media on mental health. You also evaluate the need for mandatory reporting of abuse.

                                                                             Assignment

· What strategies would you employ to assess the patient (Child) for abuse?

Explain why you selected these strategies.

· How might exposure to the media and/or social media affect the patient?

· What type of mandatory reporting (if any) is required in this case? Why?
