REPORT ON HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATION

  1. Assignment 1: The Primary Care Clinic
  2. Due Week 4 and worth 160 points
  3. You are the manager of a new primary care clinic located about twenty five (25) miles outside of a small city (population of 50,000). With five (5) family physicians, two (2) nurse practitioners, two (2) physicians’ assistants (PAs), and twenty (20) clinical support staff consisting of RNs, LPNs, and CMAs, the clinic provides primary care services to a diverse community of people living and working outside the city limits. Originally a rural area, the community has been growing and now includes promising opportunities in employment, education, and comfortable living spaces for young families. However, there are still many residents who struggle to make ends meet with older farms that have belonged to families for generations.
  4. The central city includes two (2) large acute care facilities, and one (1) tertiary care facility that is known for its excellent pulmonary care. Both acute care hospitals provide the usual services such as labor and delivery, outpatient surgery, chronic diseases care, etc. and have fully equipped ancillary departments, such as lab and radiology. Up until this point, the residents have used the facilities’ emergency departments for routine illnesses and conditions when their private physicians were not readily available.
  5. Write a five to seven (5-7) page paper in which you:
  6. Analyze some of the key social, political, and economic factors that have led to the proliferation of urgent care facilities and primary care practices over the last 20-30 years.
  7. Create a comprehensive mission statement for the clinic, and discuss how it will facilitate the provision of quality services.
  8. Analyze and discuss one (1) or more directions the clinic might take to grow its business. Determine what factors you would consider when deciding what services to provide in-house and which ones to affiliate with other institutions.
  9. Decide how you will determine if the clinic is meeting its goals. Identify three (3) performance measurements you could use to evaluate the success of the clinic’s services. Begin by naming a goal, and then identify a quantifiable measurement you could use for each to determine if you are coming close or falling short of the goal.
  10. Determine how you would then address whatever opportunities for improvement seem to exist and what processes you would put in place.
  11. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
  12. Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
    1. Typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
    2. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
    3. Include a reference page. Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
  13. The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:
  14. Analyze the critical management issues, purpose, functions, and performance measures of different departments within healthcare organizations.
  • Examine the political, economic, and social forces that have influenced the organizational foundations of the United States healthcare system.
  • Explain how public policy has shaped the development of the U.S. healthcare system.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in health services organization management.
  • Write clearly and concisely about health services organization management using proper writing mechanics.

REPORT ON AGING ACROSS THE LIFESPAN

Discussion – Week 3Collapse

Cognitive Development and Decline

Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky’s developmental theories offer us two frameworks for understanding our cognitive processing as we age. Aspects of cognition, such as information processing, attention, or memory can be different in childhood as compared to senior adulthood.

To prepare for this Discussion, review this week’s Learning Resources. Consider what Piaget and Vygotsky had to say in their theories of cognitive development.

By Day 3, post a comprehensive response to the following:

  • How do the patterns of cognitive development, observed throughout childhood, contrast with those seen in advanced aging?

  • Is cognitive decline inevitable with aging?

  • What are some strategies for maintaining and/or enhancing cognition in advanced age?

Note: The approximate length of this media piece is 33 minutes.

In this week’s media, presenters Dr. Nina Lyon-Bennett and Dr. John C. Cavanaugh discuss: the development of a sense of self; motor development and Piaget’s four stages of cognitive development; theorist Lev Vygotsky and the impact of culture on cognitive development; the differences in information processing between adolescents and adults; practical intelligence; lifelong learning; and physiology and cognition as we get older, including memory issues and information processing.

  • What makes an individual? While it could be argued that it is one’s physiological appearance or how one interacts with others, it is cognition—the mental processes of active acquisition of knowledge and comprehension—that, in many ways, defines who we are. The brain’s higher-level functions encompass language, imagination, perception and planning; shaping our outlook on life and our approach to others. In this week’s textbook reading, you will examine elements of cognition such as: thinking, knowing, remembering, judging, and problem-solving across the lifespan.

This article presented the results of a study on finding the answers to four questions. First, what interviewing technique for children gives us the most correct versus incorrect, coached, and suggested information? Second, how is information that is provided by child witnesses received and interpreted by interviewers? Third, what implications do these relations have in terms of the practice of training new interviewers? Fourth, what do these results have to say about theories of memory in general?

Demand Analysis Briefing and Marketing Campaign

You are the director of marketing for a regional hospital. The board of directors at your hospital has studied the 2011 Institute of Medicine (IOM) report Early Childhood Obesity Prevention Policies. The alarming statistics quoted in the IOM report stated that “almost 10 percent of infants and toddlers carry excess weight for their length, and slightly more than 20 percent of children between the ages of two and five already are overweight or obese” (IOM, 2011, pg. 1). A survey conducted among the pediatricians who admit patients to the hospital validated that area children under the age of 5 years follow or exceed the national trend of being overweight or obese.

The board is very concerned about childhood obesity rates for the children in the hospital’s marketing area. At the last meeting, the board directed the marketing department determine the demand for childhood obesity programs and to review the IOM report and propose a marketing campaign to provide information to parents and guardians concerning ways to prevent children from birth to 5 years of age from becoming overweight.

Click here to access the IOM report.

  1. Prepare a demand-analysis briefing for the board of directors. The demand-analysis briefing should be no longer than 2 pages. You will need to do some research to understand the nature of the broader demand questions, but you should focus your analysis on clearly explaining the demand problem to the board. Be sure to define the healthcare demand problem in the scenario.
    Here is an outline:
    1. Define the service (1-2 paragraphs). Explain exactly what the service is, when it should be delivered, and what signals quality to the consumer of the service.
    2. Define the demand (2-3 paragraphs). Who are the consumers for this service? Where are they to be found? Are there any consumer characteristics that impact demand for the service? What are they? How sensitive is the consumer to price (price elasticity)?
    3. Define the direction of demand (1-2 paragraphs). What are we trying to do with the demand—-increase it, decrease it, or manage it in other ways? When you analyze the direction of the demand, be sure to consider not only what benefits the consumer, but also the organizational strategy of your focus provider and how the provider can stay financially viable.
    4. Demand management recommendations (1-2 paragraphs). List the steps you recommend. What should management do? Support your recommendations with a clear summary of your previous analysis.
  2. Write a 2- to 3-page marketing campaign to discuss the following marketing issues:
    1. Do you think the hospital needs to complete more marketing research before embarking on the campaign?
    2. What advertising media would you suggest to be used during the campaign?
    3. What products or services could the hospital offer to assist in reducing the number of infants and toddlers who are overweight?
    4. Do you expect to generate any revenue for the hospital from the campaign?
    5. How long will the campaign last? How long would you continue to measure the effectiveness of the campaign?

Make sure you integrate the demand analysis and the marketing campaign for the Board of Directors.

REPORT ON NEWLY FORMED HEALTH SYSTEM

You are hired as the chief informatics officer (CIO) for a new health system. The health system has 23 acute care facilities and 36 outpatient clinics. It serves as a regional referral center for the three states in the Midwest. Your installed base includes a vendor-supplied HER from a national firm. Work on the data warehouse is just beginning. You have more than 300 varying applications across sites, including everything from a stand alone pharmacy application for drug interactions to a cancer registry. Your goal is t provide IT support for the organizational vision of being the premier health organization in patient safety for the region. One of the first things you want to do is to plan for the future of IT.

  1. Given the future directions discussed in this chapter, select two directions you want to emphasize. Provide rationale for your choices in Risk Analysis and Personal health patient-centered health system

Discuss how you can use methodologies from futures research to plan for your preferred future with the future directions in Risk Analysis and Personal health patient-centered health system

Outline steps to introduce the chief executive officer to nanotechnology and its potential impact on the organizations.

You want to increase collaborative work with a local university. What future directions for education do you think are most important as a CIO ?
Your paper should be two to three pages in length, excluding the title and reference pages and formatted according to APA guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. In addition to the textbook, utilize a minimum of two scholarly sources to support your position.

INTEGRATION AND UTILIZATION OF KEY CONCEPTS

Demonstrate the integration and utilization of key concepts and knowledge from prior courses to solve the selected problem

Apply critical thinking and relevant concepts to the final project

All projects should have a comprehensive plan for successful completion. This week, you must provide details about your project that are designed to organize and manage all relevant resources to achieve specific goals and objectives.

Write 4–5 pages that explain the following:

  • Problem statement
  • Measurable goals and objectives
  • Resources required
    • Human
    • Financial
  • A list of the tasks that are required for successfully implementing the project
  • Budget
  • Communication plan
  • Key stakeholders
    • Direct
    • Indirect

Abbreviated Example

  • Board approval: Present the project to the board, including the executive summary. Obtain approval to move forward with requests for proposals (RFPs).
  • Resource allocation: Submit requests for proposals to the 2 vendors that are identified. Include the return on investment (ROI) requirement. Meet with the bank representatives regarding financing. Meet with marketing to develop a campaign promoting the new process.
  • Implementation tasks: Schedule employee meetings to share the plan to use new laboratory equipment that will allow a shorter time for obtaining results. Meet with all staff to communicate the plan, and create teams to handle the different components of the implementation. It is necessary to communicate the purpose of the proposed change and highlight the benefits. Create training schedules to allow the nursing staff time to learn the new laboratory process. The receptionists will need to be trained to identify which patients will be using the new laboratory and the standard process.

Please include at least 4 references in APA format

REPORT OF NURSES ROLE ON DIFFERENT SCENARIO

One way informatics can be especially valuable is in capturing data to inspire improvements and quality change in practice. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) collects data related to adverse events and safety concerns. If you are working within a practice setting to implement a new electronic health record (EHR) system, this is just one of the many considerations your team would need to plan for during the rollout process.

In a paper of 1,250-1,500 words, address the following questions related to the advanced registered nurse’s role during this type of scenario:

  1. What key information would be needed in the database that would allow you to track opportunities for care improvement?
  2. What role does informatics play in the ability to capture this data?
  3. Which systems and staff members would need to be involved in the design and implementation process and team?
  4. What professional, ethical, and regulatory standards must be incorporated into the design and implementation of the system?
  5. How would the EHR team ensure that all order sets are part of the new record?
  6. How would you communicate the changes, including any kind of transition plan?
  7. What measures and steps would you take to evaluate the success of the EHR implementation from a staff, setting, and patient perspective?
  8. What leadership skills and theories would facilitate collaboration with the interprofessional team and provide evidence-based, patient-centered care?

You are required to cite five to 10 sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and nursing content.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin. Please refer to the directions in the Student Success Center.

SYSTEM SECURITY AND EASE OF USE

For ethical, legal, and business reasons, the security of health care data must be a top priority in health care organizations. HIPAA, for example, requires that health care organizations safeguard patient data, and there are serious consequences for breaches of privacy. Yet organizations have many types of sensitive clinical or administrative information they need to protect. To make their systems secure, health care organizations put in place policies as well as technical safeguards such as encryption and passwords. There can be a tradeoff, however, between system security and ease of use by health care providers.

Prepare for this Application Assignment as follows:

  • Select a type of health care organization, such as an outpatient clinic, nursing home, or hospital, and a specific department or function in this setting, such as a nursing unit, radiology department, or admissions, that would make use of sensitive health data. Bring to mind specific ways in which these data might be improperly accessed, lost, stolen, and so on.
  • Review this week’s Learning Resources, and conduct online research, as needed, to clarify for yourself the ramifications for individuals and organizations of security breaches in this department, and the solutions that have been devised to protect these data. In what ways might these security measures interfere with the staff’s ease of use of the system? Consider how best to balance these competing interests of data security and convenience for staff.

Then write a 2-page paper that addresses the following:

  • Describe key challenges for your selected health care department in ensuring that its sensitive data are secure. Illustrate with specific examples, and address not only technological issues but also human factors involved in ensuring its system security.
  • What are some implications of security breaches of its health care data? Who might be impacted and how?
  • Summarize security measures that might be taken as well as their potential impact on the staff’s ease of use of the information system.
  • Explain what you believe is the appropriate balance between data security and ease of use.

This Application Assignment is due bymidnightof 12/07/2014.
Your written assignments must follow APA guidelines. Be sure to support your work with specific citations from this week’s Learning Resources and additional scholarly sources as appropriate. Refer to theEssential Guide to APA Style for Ashford Students to ensure your in-text citations and reference list are correct.

REPORT ON MEDICAL LOGISTICS

find a medical logistics or supply chain management case study. For our purposes, a case study is a real-life health care administrative situation involving a decision to be made or a problem or issue to be resolved.

Case studies in general are detailed accounts of an organization, company, industry, person or group of people, or project. The case study may include information about company objectives, strategies, challenges, results, recommendations, or more. The case study may be a real-life situation described in its entirety or so that portions of it are disguised for reasons of confidentiality. It may also be fictional.

Most case studies are written in such a way that the reader takes the place of the manager whose responsibility it is to make decisions to help resolve the problem or issue. In almost all case studies, a decision must be made, although this decision may be to leave the situation as it is. For this assignment, case studies can be brief or extensive and can range from several pages to 30 pages or more.

Where Can I Find Sample Case Studies?

The Internet is a great source of sample case studies to examine before you create your own. To find case study examples, conduct a search using the words sample case studies. For formatting help, click the link to see the Microsoft case study template.

Parts of the Project

This project consists of two parts:

  • Part 1 (2% of your final grade): Submit a summary of your case study situation and challenge/concern to be addressed. Upload your submission to the Assignment titled “Case Study and Challenge Selection” in week 4.
  • Part 2 (23% of your final grade): Submit a case study with the following:
  1. opening paragraph—introduction to the situation
  2. background organizational information—history, mission, values, competition, financial information, and additional information of significant value
  3. area of interest—strategic planning, leadership, marketing, finance, health care operations, human resources
  4. definition of the challenge/concern—specific problem or decision(s) to be made; this is your problem statement
  5. alternative situations/solutions—list of options for meeting the challenge or concern
  6. conclusion—summary of the situation, any constraints or limitations, and the urgency of the situation, with the best alternative presented and defended

Most but not all case studies will follow this format. The purpose here is for you to thoroughly understand the situation and the decisions/discussions that need to be made. Take your time and stay focused on your objectives.

Here, we’ll pay a bit more attention to the fourth and fifth components:

Defining the Challenge/Concern

The problem statement should be a clear and concise statement of exactly what issue or concern needs to be addressed. This is not challenging to write!

To pinpoint the challenge to be addressed, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What appears to be the issue/problem?
  • How do I know that this is a problem? Note that, in answering this question, you will differentiate the indicators of the problem from the problem itself.
  • What needs to be addressed immediately? Answering this will help you to differentiate between problems that can be resolved within the context of the case and larger issues that need to be addressed at a later time.
  • What is important and what is urgent? Some problems appear to be urgent, but upon closer examination, are revealed to be relatively unimportant, while others may be far more important than they are pressing.

The problem statement can be framed as a question (e.g., What should Sue do? or How can Mr. Smith improve? It typically has to be rewritten several times during the analysis of a case, as you peel back the layers of symptoms or causation.

Coming Up With Alternative Situations/Solutions

You’ll want to answer the following questions to come up with viable alternatives:

  • Why or how did the challenge/concern arise? You are trying to determine cause and effect for the problems identified. You cannot solve a problem of which you cannot determine the cause! It may be helpful to think of the organization in question as consisting of the following components:
  • people who transform. . .
  • resources, such as materials, equipment, or supplies, using. . .
  • processes, which create something of greater value
  • Who is affected the most by the challenge/concern? You are trying to identify the relevant stakeholders to the situation, and who will be affected by the decisions to be made.
  • What are the constraints and opportunities in this situation?

HEALTH PROMOTION AMONG HISPANIC MINORITY

Analyze the health status of a specific minority group. Select a minority group that is represented in the United States (examples include: American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian American, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander.)

In an essay of 750-1,000 words, compare and contrast the health status of the minority group you have selected to the national average. Consider the cultural, socioeconomic, and sociopolitical barriers to health. How do race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and education influence health for the minority group you have selected? Address the following in your essay:

1.What is the current health status of this minority group?

2.How is health promotion defined by the group?

3.What health disparities exist for this group?

4.Describe at least one approach using the three levels of health promotion prevention (primary, secondary, and tertiary) that is likely to be the most effective given the unique needs of the minority group you have selected. Provide an explanation of why it might be the most effective choice.

Cite a minimum of three references in the paper.

You will find important health information regarding minority groups by exploring the following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) links:
