Community Needs and Health Screening Initiative

Assignment Details

Community Needs and Health Screening Initiative

Directions

For this Assignment you will pick one recommended screening from AHRQ section 2; an A or B Grade:

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality [AHRQ]. (2014). Guide to clinical preventive services. Retrieved from https://www.ahrq.gov/professionals/clinicians-providers/guidelines-recommendations/guide/index.html

An initiative is a project, an event, so something in the community is ideal. Workplace location for employees is fine too. Please include the following suggested level one headings so content is clear and easily identified.

Conceptual Model

Choose a conceptual model that you think might work for your initiative and explain the model here.  Appendix 2 in the document at the link below will help you understand community approaches. Appendix 3 in this same document will help you with conceptual model selection. Note: This project is about screening, not physical activity evaluation. Use the appendix as a resource for models:

Physical Activity Evaluation Handbook. (2002). Retrieved from https://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/physical/handbook/pdf/handbook.pdf

You may choose to independently research your model to help you explain its application to your initiative. If you have found another model you will like to use, not listed, contact your instructor.

Screening Purpose

Discuss why it is important to screen for this condition. This is where you address your community assessment and the reason for this need in your community/ population choice. Support your stance with statistics and information, ideally related to the location and population.

Population

Clearly address the demographics that are being screened; where they live, state, county, ages, races included etc.

Screening Activity

This section is what you are doing at the screening and should completely align with the screening guideline above for the condition. Also all health promotion screenings include some brief prevention education component.

 Outcome Goals

Bullet a few specific goals here. What do you hope to accomplish with your screening?

Location

Briefly explain where you are doing this. It should be very specific. Senior Citizen Center in Monroe Co on Saturday. Local church- name, malls, fair etc. Think about what facility type, area you will need. Add comments on why this location meets the needs of your target population and screening choice.

Cost

This is the cost for you to develop and conduct the initiative. It is best displayed as a brief Word table showing what it costs you do develop and conduct the screening; paper, equipment, rental s etc. Volunteers are fine, but everything is not free. Students must demonstrate they can develop a cost estimate for screenings that is realistic and takes into account financials. If there is a cost for the attendees that should go here as well.

Summary

Provide a summary of your screening, general benefit to the community and why it is important.

This should be a 3–4 page paper, excluding title page, and references. A person should be able to read your paper and understand fully what you are screening, where, when, the costs and how it is supported in the guideline. Ideally a person would be able to duplicate your screening initiative, based on the clarity you present. This paper should adhere to appropriate 6th edition APA format. A minimum of 3-4 sources should be used.

Health care laws and regulations and their applications and effects on processes within a health care team or organization

Develop a training plan for one of the role groups in the organization that will be responsible for implementing practice guidelines under the new organizational policy you presented in Assessment 3. Prepare an agenda for a two-hour workshop, and summarize your strategies for working with this group, the expected outcomes of the training, and why you chose this group to pilot the change.

Note: Each assessment in this course builds on the work you completed in the previous assessment. Therefore, you must complete the assessments in this course in the order in which they are presented.

Training and educating those within an organization who will be responsible for implementing and working with changes in organizational policy is a critical step in ensuring that prescribed changes have their intended benefit. A leader in a health care profession needs to be able to apply effective leadership, management, and educational strategies to ensure that colleagues and subordinates will be prepared to do the work that is asked of them. This assessment offers you an opportunity to develop and implement such strategies.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

· Competency 2: Analyze relevant health care laws and regulations and their applications and effects on processes within a health care team or organization.

. Describe changes to policy or practice guidelines to be implemented in an organization.

· Competency 3: Lead the development and implementation of ethical and culturally sensitive policies that improve health outcomes for individuals, organizations, and populations.

. Identify training activities and materials that support learning and skill development, and prepare a specific group to successfully apply a new policy or practice guidelines to its work.

. Justify the importance of an institutional policy or practice guidelines to improve the quality of care or outcomes related to a specific group.

· Competency 5: Develop strategies to work collaboratively with policy makers, stakeholders, and colleagues to address environmental (governmental and regulatory) forces.

. Develop strategies for engaging with a specific group to ensure buy in, support, and preparedness to implement changes in policy and practice guidelines.

In this assessment, you will build on the policy presentation work you completed in Assessment 3.

Preparation

Your policy proposal presentation secured buy in and support from the stakeholder group you addressed. They are enthusiastic about implementing your proposed policy and practice guidelines. In an effort to help ensure a smooth roll out and implementation of your proposal, senior leaders have asked you to create and lead a training session for one of the role groups in the organization that will be responsible for enacting the new policy and practices.

In addition, senior leaders have asked you to develop and submit a training plan for review and approval before conducting the requested training session. They have also requested that you cite 2–4 credible sources that support your proposed training strategies, your intended approach to generating buy in and support from the group, and your plans for working with the group to facilitate implementation of the policy and practice changes.

As outcomes of this training session, participants are expected to:

· Understand the organizational policy and practice guidelines to be implemented.

· Understand the importance of the policy to improving health care quality or outcomes.

· Understand that, as a group, they are key to successful implementation.

· Possess the necessary knowledge and skills for successful implementation.

Training Plan Requirements

Assessment Instructions

Preparation

To prepare for this assessment, you will need to think about changes you feel are needed to address a problem either within nursing as a professional field or within the organization where you work. Narrow down your options by considering which change would best be undertaken by an interprofessional team. Some examples for you to consider might include:

  • The use of mobile and portable technology to support patients.
  • Using evidence-based practice (EBP) to improve patient care.
  • Increasing patient safety and quality of care.
  • The use of medical technology such as genes and stem cells, or robots in the OR.
  • Addressing the nursing shortage now and into the future.
  • Improving the work environment (providing calm, supportive spaces for nurses; improved dialog between health care professionals).
  • Better safety for nurses at work (violence, spreading diseases, physical injury).
  • Substance abuse by health care professionals.

Or you can narrow the scope to an issue within your own organization:

  • Developing a mobility program for an inpatient unit.
  • Implementing “smart” technology to assist in patient monitoring.
  • Creating a mentoring program to attract and retain nurses.
  • Implementing protocols for infection control and/or treatment of an epidemic.
  • Developing a plan to eliminate physical violence and verbal abuse in the workplace.
  • Other.

Once you have selected an issue to address, look for scholarly and professional articles that focus on the problem, the needed change, and how interprofessional teams can work together to drive change.

Requirements

Lately you have noticed the need for changes within your organization that would advance the field of nursing. You have decided to develop a proposal and submit it to executive leadership. Format this assessment as a professional proposal. You may want to look at how proposals are drafted within your organization and follow that format. You will still need a references page; follow APA guidelines for in-text citations and references.

Address the following in your proposal:

  • Briefly describe the problem and how it impacts the organization, patients, and/or the nursing profession.
  • Describe possible evidence-based interventions for the problem.
  • Analyze potential barriers and resistance to change that might come from the organization, patients, and/or colleagues.
  • Describe strategies to overcome barriers and resistance to change.
  • Develop a plan to implement evidence-based interventions. What steps would you take? What resources might you need?
  • Identify other health care professionals to enlist as team members to help drive change in the organization.

Your completed assessment should be 4–6 pages in length, not including title page and references page. Support your statements and intervention plan with references to and citations for at least four scholarly or professional resources.

Additional Requirements

  • Include a title page and references page.
  • Reference at least four current scholarly or professional resources.
  • Use APA format for citations and references.
  • Use Times New Roman font, 12 point.
  • Double space.

In response to research study

Some questions were presented related to the research study…Please respond to the questions below

  1. What will be the benchmarks for inclusion in the research study?
  2. What are the reasons and significance for selecting this topic?
  3. When considering your topic would you have inclusion criteria other than positive for COVID-19? Or would you use the stratified sampling technique to organize by age, weight, ethnicity, comorbidities, etc.?

Introduction

For my scientific research, the topic that I selected is “The effects of proning therapy in COVID 19 patients”. The PICOT question that will be utilized in the study is “For COVID-19 positive patients, has the use of proning therapy been effective in reducing mortality and intubation rates?” From the study’s PICOT question, the Population is Covid- 19 positive patients with the ICU, Intervention is proning therapy, Comparison is supine position, Outcome is reduced intubation and mortality of COVID-19 patients, and Time is during hospital admittance. According to the PICOT question, this study seeks to discover whether proning therapy as a COVID-19 treatment strategy will minimize intubation and mortality rates. This study will be quantitative research since these rates can be examined only through numerical data. This essay will highlight the sampling method I would use to conduct this study and how the sample type and size will be determined. Nursing homework help

The Sampling Methods that Would be Used in the Study

The first sampling method utilized in my research will be simple random sampling. Frost (2022) stated that simple random sampling entails giving every person in the population an equivalent probability and opportunity of being chosen to participate. Therefore, I would use this sampling method to recruit patients from the desired number of ICUs in the country, particularly from those medical institutions that have used prone therapy in treating patients for more than five years. This method would be ideal because it allows a researcher to calculate the sampling error and minimize selection bias. Besides, simple random sampling is an effective sampling method in research because it is straightforward. In this context, since I will be selecting COVID-19 patients admitted to the ICU, simple random sampling will help me choose the desired number of participants to take part in prone therapy.

Additionally, I would utilize the stratified sampling method in this research. Essentially, in stratified sampling, the population is categorized into strata (subgroups) that share the same characteristic (Parsons, 2014). Moreover, this sampling method is used in studies where the researchers anticipate a variation of the measurement of interest between different strata. This ensures that there is representation from every subgroup. Therefore, I would employ the same sampling method in my research in the randomization and stratification of patients according to the ICU. This will allow me to assign patients randomly to a supine group or a prone group. Nursing homework help

The main advantage of stratified sampling is it allows a researcher to select non-equal sample sizes from every subgroup. For instance, in medical research, to study the health outcomes of the hospital staff in a country, if there are four hospitals with different numbers of hospital staff, it would be advisable to select sample sizes from every hospital proportionally. If Hospital 1 has 100 staff members, Hospital 2 has 200, Hospital 3 has 300, and Hospital 4 has 400, the appropriate sample selected from every hospital is 10, 20, 30, and 40, respectively. This ensures a more accurate and realistic approximation of the health outcomes of medical staff across the country. Unlike simple random sampling, which would most likely lead to the over-representation of medical staff from every hospital, stratified sampling would ensure that the sample selected from each hospital to participate in the study is more proportionate. Therefore, since I will be choosing COVID-19 patients from different hospitals in the country, I would use stratified sampling to select the appropriate proportion of patients to be subjected to prone therapy. This will ensure that the study’s representativeness and accuracy are improved and free front bias.

The Methods that Will be Used to Determine the Sample Type and Size

A researcher must ensure that the sample size is sufficient enough to provide accurate results in every study. Therefore, I would use Andrew Fisher’s Formula to determine which sample size would provide accurate data and ultimately lead to correct conclusions. According to Kibuacha (2021), Andrew Fisher’s Formula is given by Sample Size = {Z2 * S.D * (1- S.D)}/ (C.I)2. If I decided to work with a 90 percent confidence level, a confidence interval of ± 5%, and a standard deviation of 0.5, the appropriate sample size for my study would be 272.25 {((1.96)2 x .5(.5)) / (.05)2}. Therefore, after determining the sample size that I should work with, I would apply the stratified sampling techniques to select the type of COVID-19 patients that I would subject to prone therapy to study if intubation or mortality rate would be reduced. More specifically, if I were selecting patients from two ICUs that have 1000 and 2000 COVID-19 patients, respectively, I would use stratified sampling to select non-equal sample sizes from every subgroup. The sample from ICU A would be 100, while the sample from ICU B would be 200, totalling 300. Even though this sample size is slightly larger than the calculated sample size, it will be sufficient to make accurate conclusions.
