The various components of wellness for investigating the influence of wellness on one’s discipline of study or chosen profession

IDS 402 Final Project Guidelines and Rubric

Overview In this course, you will explore the relationship between wellness, society, and the individual. It is important to recognize the influence and impact that wellness can have and what that means for individuals in all disciplines. Problems in wellness have influence on many aspects of society, and how that is dealt with requires diverse knowledge and perspectives to investigate and change. Across many disciplines, the ability to investigate and then articulate a plan to inspire change is often necessary to achieve personal and professional goals. The purpose of this project is to examine the role of wellness in society and how that impacts individuals through the development of a plan that addresses a local or global problem relating to wellness.

The project is divided into four milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Two, Three, Five, and Six. The final product will be submitted in Module Seven. In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:

 IDS-402-01: Analyze the various components of wellness for investigating the influence of wellness on one’s discipline of study or chosen profession

 IDS-402-02: Integrate interdisciplinary approaches for determining the impact that contemporary issues in healthcare systems have on modern society

 IDS-402-03: Describe contemporary issues surrounding wellness for their relevance to and impact on the individual and society by employing appropriate research strategies

 IDS-402-04: Recommend potential applications of strategies for monitoring and enhancing personal and public wellness

 IDS-402-05: Articulate informed viewpoints on contemporary issues surrounding wellness issues through effective communication skills

 IDS-402-06: Assess cultural and social attitudes, choices, and behaviors for their implications to lifelong health and wellness through the incorporation of diverse perspectives and viewpoints informed by relevant literature and peer experiences

Prompt For this project, you will choose a local or global issue that pertains to wellness. The chosen issue should also relate to one or more of the topics that has been addressed in this course (art, transforming practices and attitudes, technological advances, social attitudes, environment, etc.). Some examples of broad issues within these topics can be located here. In this presentation, you will explain a chosen issue, describe how it pertains to wellness, and provide a plan of action for addressing this issue. This plan includes recommendations for improvements as well as strategies and a plan for implementing the recommendations. You will develop your plan as a multimedia presentation that will require an oral narration component. This oral component should be a recorded oral narration that accompanies your multimedia presentation. You will be required to provide written speaker notes that correspond with your presentation in a separate Word document. Be sure to support your answers with appropriate evidence from relevant and appropriate research.https://learn.snhu.edu/d2l/lor/viewer/view.d2l?ou=6606&loIdentId=20333

Milestones Milestone One: Introduction In Module Two, you will complete a draft of the Introduction section of your presentation. In this section, you will examine the importance of wellness in society and how it influences social practices as well as your discipline of study. The final project represents a significant portion of your final grade, so it is imperative that you develop your ideas well. This milestone will be graded with the Milestone One Rubric. Milestone Two: Issue In Module Three, you will submit a draft of the Issue section of your presentation. In this section, you will introduce the issue and how it relates to wellness and any of the topics that have been discussed in the course. This milestone will be submitted as a Word document. Note that this document, with revisions, can serve as your speaker notes for the final project submission. This milestone will be graded with the Milestone Two Rubric. Milestone Three: Plan In Module Five, you will submit a draft of the Plan section of your presentation. In this section, you will offer recommendations and a plan to improve the issue as well as strategies for implementing your plan. You will also create the visual facet of your final project presentation. Keep in mind that your voice will be the primary carrier of your message and that visuals play a supporting role. You want your voice and visuals to work together and not compete for attention, so you should minimize the number of words on each slide and maximize the use of visual elements, including photographs, illustrations, and graphs. You will submit

this milestone as a presentation draft in PowerPoint that will include visuals and a speaker notes. This milestone will be graded with the Milestone Three Rubric. Prevention and population-focused interventions for vulnerable populations using professional clinical judgment and evidence-based practice

SBIRT: Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment Presentation Guidelines

09/01/2018

Purpose

Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is an evidence-based practice intervention used to identify, reduce, and prevent problematic use, abuse, and dependence on substances such as tobacco, alcohol and illicit drugs. The SBIRT model was incited by an Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommendation that called for community-based screening for health risk behaviors. The purpose of this assignment is to integrate SBIRT into nursing practice to help stimulate positive change at the individual and population focused level of care.

Course Outcomes

This assignment enables the student to meet the following Course Outcomes (COs).

· CO3: Plan prevention and population-focused interventions for vulnerable populations using professional clinical judgment and evidence-based practice. (PO 4, 8)

· CO4: Evaluate the delivery of care for individuals, families, aggregates, and communities based on theories and principles of nursing and related disciplines. (PO1)

Due Date

Submit your completed SBIRT presentation by 11:59 p.m. MT Sunday of Week 6.

Points: 225 points

Background information

SBIRT consists of three major components.

1. Screening—A healthcare professional assesses a patient for concerning behaviors using standardized screening tools. Screening can occur in any healthcare setting.

2. Brief Intervention—A healthcare professional engages a patient in a short conversation, providing feedback and advice regarding concerning behaviors.

3. Referral to Treatment—A healthcare professional provides a referral to resources and/or treatment options and additional services available (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration [SAMHSA], n.d.)

How the BSN-prepared nurse can assist a nurse leader in the budgeting process by contributing data readily available to the staff nurse

In Huston’s (2010) brief, but impressive article (required reading this week), the author outlines several leadership competencies that EVERY nurse leader will need for 2020. That year is not too far in the future, is it?

1. Select one of the eight leadership competencies Huston described and relate it to your own leadership of nurses and nursing. This should promote a robust discussion as we come from different clinical and nonclinical perspectives.

2. Discuss how the BSN-prepared nurse can assist a nurse leader in the budgeting process by contributing data readily available to the staff nurse.

Huston, C. (2010). What skills will the nurse leaders of 2020 need? (2010). Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand, 16(6), 14–15.

2nd Part

Do you possess the leadership skill to get you to the next level? After reading the Huston article, do you see these leadership skills on your unit/area? Please provide your reasoning and an example from your practice.

How does budgeting contribute to becoming a strong nurse leader?

Discuss healthcare workers’ privacy and confidentiality in ensuring all workers are safe in the worksite

*****DUE IN 10-12 HOURS!!

Read this scenario:

You have been hired as Assistant Manager of a Home Health Care Agency. The agency offers a wide range of skilled medical services such as nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy from qualified medical professionals. The agency also provides home health aide services including assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing and eating.

Your supervisor told you that she recently received a call from an advocate whom an employee consulted via the Employee Assistance Program because the employee felt that she had been treated unfairly after contracting an illness. She explained that a few months ago, one of your agency’s home health aides, Sara, became ill. Sara had been coughing for approximately six weeks, lost weight without trying, had no appetite, was having difficulty sleeping, and had an intermittent fever. She became concerned and went to see a healthcare professional who diagnosed her with active tuberculosis (TB).

Sara missed a lot of time from work while completing treatment for TB. Her physician cleared her to return to work after she was no longer contagious. Upon returning to work, Sara felt isolated because her boss and co-workers refused to spend time with her. She heard that someone from the agency’s Human Resources Department told her co-workers her diagnosis. The stressful circumstances at work became even worse when another home health aide started to display the same symptoms Sara had.

Your supervisor has asked you to review the entire situation and how it was handled by the agency.

Now, in a complete 1-2 pages paper, address the following: (DO NOT WRITE QUESTIONS IN THE PAPER)

We have covered patient confidentiality in our previous courses. Keeping in mind the above scenario and Sara’s situation:

  • 1. Discuss healthcare workers’ privacy and confidentiality in ensuring all workers are safe in the worksite?
  • 2. Describe the role of the manager versus a leader in this scenario.
  • 3. How this situation should be handled?

Your paper must include:

  • 100% originality
  • 1-2 pages count excluding title and reference page
  • Proper introduction and conclusion
  • 3 credible references cited in APA

How could you use Excel descriptive statistics for data analysis research

Discussion Question

Using the Excel Sheet and descriptive statistics page; you will write up your analysis for the 20 participants.

This week, you learned about the statistical software applications used to analyze data for research analysis. For this week’s discussion, you will use Excel sheet provide to run descriptive statistics, create graphs and respond to the following:

· How could you use Excel descriptive statistics for data analysis research?

· What are your plans for learning more about Excel and how will the information you learned about this software be of benefit in your future analysis of research data?

Refer to this week’s readings and video tutorials before starting this two part discussion question assignment. You will also have access to the Assignment Resources Step-by-Step Guide, accessed through the Assignment Resources Icon located to the right of the grading criteria above.

Step 1: Entering Data

Open a blank worksheet in the Excel program

You will now use Excel to view a sample dataset

Dataset Options

In many cases, researchers may have the data from their study in another software package like Microsoft Excel. However, if the data is not available in a software spreadsheet you can manually enter the data. Option 2: Manual Data Entry

In the Worksheet window, type “Age” in C1. Enter the numbers as shown in the dataset below. Enter the remaining data as shown below (set up your column labels i.e., variable). The measure reflects math anxiety and the study variables (cringe, uneasy, afraid, worried, understand) the math anxiety range is from 1–5 with low being the least and 5 the highest.

step 2: Click on Excel tab for Add Ins; if you do not see statistics; you will need to open the file option; click on Add ins; click on ok; a box will open which will allow you to choose Statistics package; place a check mark in the box and click ok. How to Run Descriptive Statistics

Now that your data is in Excel, you will look at the descriptive statistics for this dataset. Select the data in all the columns except the top that has words for the columns; however you have the file already completed and a picture of the descriptive statistics..See end of page for a copy of the excel sheet and descriptive statistics output.

Discussion Question Part 1

How could you use Excel descriptive statistics for data analysis research? Write about your experience running descriptive statistics. Use the results in the Session Window to support your response. Then add to your discussion with the information you learn writing up your analysis.

Step 3: Excel and Graphs

You will now look at graphing. Select insert graph located at the top of the sheet; highlight the data you want to use for a chart; select the type of chart; select ok. Try using the histogram  feature for one of the variables and select “Ok”. You can create other Histogram graphs by choosing different variables. You can also choose from the other ten graph choices shown on the insert chart function.

Discussion Question Part 2

What are your plans for learning more about Excel and how will the information you learned about this software be of benefit in your future analysis of research data? Copy and paste your graph(s) in a Word document and attach to your discussion response.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease And Urinary Obstruction

Essential (Primary) Hypertension (ICD10 I10): Given the symptoms and high blood pressure (156/92 mmhg), classified as stage 2. Once the organic cause of hypertension has been ruled out, such as renal, adrenal or thyroid, this diagnosis is confirmed.

Differential diagnosis:

Ø Renal artery stenosis (ICD10 I70.1)

Ø Chronic kidney disease (ICD10 I12.9)

Ø Hyperthyroidism (ICD10 E05.90)

Plan

Diagnosis is based on the clinical evaluation through history, physical examination, and routine laboratory tests to assess risk factors, reveal identifiable causes and detect target-organ damage, including evidence of cardiovascular disease.

These basic laboratory tests are:

· CMP

· Complete blood count

· Lipid profile

· Thyroid-stimulating hormone

· Urinalysis

· Electrocardiogram

Ø Pharmacological treatment:

The treatment of choice in this case would be:

Thiazide-like diuretic and/or a CCB

· Hydrochlorothiazide tab 25 mg, Initial dose: 25 mg orally once daily.

Ø Non-Pharmacologic treatment

· Weight loss

· Healthy diet (DASH dietary pattern): Diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products with reduced content of saturated and trans l fat

· Reduced intake of dietary sodium: <1,500 mg/d is optimal goal but at least 1,000 mg/d reduction in most adults

· Enhanced intake of dietary potassium

· Regular physical activity (Aerobic): 90–150 min/wk

· Tobacco cessation

· Measures to release stress and effective coping mechanisms.

Education

· Provide with nutrition/dietary information.

· Daily blood pressure monitoring at home twice a day for 7 days, keep a record, bring the record on the next visit with her PCP

· Instruction about medication intake compliance.

· Education of possible complications such as stroke, heart attack, and other problems.

· Patient was educated on course of hypertension, as well as warning signs and symptoms, which could indicate the need to attend the E.R/U.C. Answered all pt. questions/concerns. Pt verbalizes understanding to all

Follow-ups/Referrals

· Evaluation with PCP in 1 weeks for managing blood pressure and to evaluate current hypotensive therapy. Urgent Care visit prn.
