The web-based healthcare information assessment affords the opportunity to assess healthcare education on the internet. As future professional nurses, it is imperative you provide your clients with appropriate recommendations for credible health information on the internet.

The goal of this assessment is for you to evaluate a website of your choosing (e.g., the American Heart Association the American Diabetes Association or  Web MD, Mayo Clinic) following the HONcode criteria (Health on the Net) available in this module’s Reading and Resources folder.

As future professional nurses, it is imperative you provide your clients with appropriate recommendations for credible health information on the internet. The goal of this assessment is for you to evaluate a website of your choosing (such as the website of the AHA or ADA) by following the HONcode criteria (Health on the Net) available in the Module Five instructional resources. To successfully complete this assignment, you must complete the following steps:

1. Select a website which discusses a specific disease/disease entity (e.g., AHA, ADA) 2. Utilizing the HONcode criteria for evaluation, discuss each category (see below) showing evidence to support whether the website meets or does not

The Pathophysiology of Disorders


During the last 5 weeks, you have explored various body  systems: neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, and hematological.  These four systems work together along with other body systems to  complete a myriad of functions. For this reason, when disorders occur  within one body system, it can create potentially devastating effects  throughout the entire body. For instance, Parkinson’s disease is a  disorder of the central nervous system, yet its alterations actually  affect multiple body systems from the cardiovascular system to the  gastrointestinal system. In this Assignment, you examine alterations  associated with disorders, as well as the impact of the alterations on  multiple body systems.

Think about  how these alterations produce pathophysiological changes in at least two  body systems.

Reflect on how patient factors such as genetics,  gender, ethnicity, age, and behavior might impact the pathophysiology of  the alterations you identified, as well as the diagnosis and treatment  of your selected disorder. 

Review the “Mind maps—Dementia, Endocarditis, and  Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)” media in the Week 2 Learning  Resources. Use the examples in the media as a guide to construct a mind  map for the disorder you selected. 

Consider the epidemiology and  clinical presentation of your selected disorder.

Describe your selected disorder, as well as  associated alterations. Explain the pathophysiology of the alterations,  including changes that occur in at least two body systems.

In our work and personal lives, we need to be able to identify and analyze effective verbal and nonverbal communication in various situations. In the same way that you would analyze a work or personal life communication situation, you will be asked to create a short presentation (using media choices below) about the nonverbal communication demonstrated in a series of photographs. In addition to identifying aspects of nonverbal communication, you will also need to show how these elements can affect communication both positive and negatively. Include your observations of how nonverbal elements that you see alter the direction of communication.
