The influence that developmental stages have on physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual functioning

Purpose

This week’s graded topics relate to the following Course Outcome (CO).

  • CO 2 – Recognize the influence that developmental stages have on physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual functioning. (PO #1)

The Assignment

This week you have two options for your initial discussion post. Select the option that is best for you! Please remember to use and credit the lesson or required NIH website (there was not a textbook reading this week), AND one outside scholarly source.

Option #1 – Case Study to Consider

Ann and Michael have been married for 55 years. Ann is 80 years-old, and suffers from lung cancer and advanced Alzheimer’s disease. She currently resides in a nursing home, and often does not recognize Michael when he visits. Last night she was admitted to the hospital with difficulty breathing. Today, you are the nurse caring for Ann, and her physician is suggesting surgery to remove part of her lung to potentially slow the progression of her cancer. Michael is feeling unsure about this course of treatment, and asks for your advice and guidance.

How would you respond to Michael and serve as advocate for your patient?

Option #2 – Share a Related Experience

Share with your classmates a time when you cared for a patient at the end of their life. This may be a time when you assisted the patient (or their support system) with decisions related to end of life care; or a time when you were present for the death of a patient.

What were your observations related to this experience? Do you believe it was a peaceful death? What went well? Can you think of anything that could have made the experience better for the patient and/or family?

How could you involve the representatives from the target population in designing the program

Stakeholder Involvement

For a program to be effective, it is essential for members of the target population to be involved in developing the mission, goals, and objectives.

Who would you reach out to for developing your program? Are there other community organizations or business partners that you would like to connect with during this process? How would you facilitate the involvement of various stakeholders? What challenges do you think you might encounter?

In this Discussion, you and your colleagues address the myriad issues related to stakeholder involvement during the creation of a program’s mission, goals, and objectives.

To prepare:

  • Review      the information presented in this week’s Learning Resources and conduct      additional research of your own to learn about programs that have      successfully involved various stakeholders in the target population.

By tomorrow Wednesday 12/26/18 2 pm, write a minimum of 550 words essay in APA format with at least 3 references from the list of required readings below (Please also refer to previous attached paper). Include all headers as numbered below:

Post a cohesive scholarly response that addresses the following:

1) Why is it important for representatives from the target population (breast cancer in African American women in the USA) to be involved in developing the goals and objectives for the program?

2) How could you involve the representatives from the target population in designing the program?

3) What strategies could be used to navigate disagreements or lack of interest?

  1. Discuss the “moral theory” contained in this article.
  2. Explain whether you agree or disagree with the author that the ACA was an answer to health care accessibility.
  3. Explain whether you believe or do not believe that ACA will improve patient care.
  4. Discuss what you think President Trump should do with the ACA.
  5. Discuss what strategies you would recommend to deal with economic realities of health care based on your own research.

Length: Submit a 3-page paper, not including the cover page and the reference list.

The importance of self-assessment and reflection

Details:

This assignment focuses on the importance of self-assessment and reflection.

Self-Assessment

Self-awareness is essential for developing leadership skills. Recognizing your own strengths, weaknesses, and values, and understanding emotional intelligence and learning styles can help you to be a more effective nurse leader.

For this assignment, you have the opportunity to take a variety of self-assessments to learn more about yourself and identify your assets and weaknesses as a leader. This will assist you in discovering how you can improve your own self-leadership skills. You will be asked to think critically about your results and submit a reflection as directed below.

Complete each of the following self-assessments. Be sure to document the results of each assessment to assist you in completing the reflection portion of the assignment below.

  1. Emotional Intelligence Assessment: “Emotional Intelligence Test”: http://testyourself.psychtests.com/testid/3038
  2. Personality Assessment: “Personality Traits Test”: http://testyourself.psychtests.com/bin/transfer?req=MnwyMjk2fDE5NTM1MTV8MXwxfDE=&refempt
  3. Learning Styles Assessment: “The VARK Questionnaire: How Do I Learn Best?”: http://vark-learn.com/the-vark-questionnaire/
  4. Values Assessment: “Values Profile”: http://testyourself.psychtests.com/bin/transfer?req=MnwzMzE5fDE5NTM1MTV8MXwxfDE=&refempt
  5. Values Assessment: “Rokeach Values Survey”: http://faculty.wwu.edu/tyrank/Rokeach%20Value%20Survey.pdf
  6. Diversity Assessment: “Cultural Competence Self-Test”: http://www.healthystartpinellas.org/pdf/Self_Assess_5.pdf

Self-Assessment Reflection

Becoming self-aware is an ongoing process requiring introspection. The more often people practice self-reflection, the more opportunities they have to understand their own behaviors and adapt their approaches to working with other people, which can improve both your own and other’s abilities to meet their professional goals.

In a 750-1,000 word reflective essay, address the following:

  1. Briefly summarize the results of each self-assessment.
  2. Identify the leadership style that closely aligns to your philosophy of care, and explain what appeals to you about that style.
  3. Reflect on how you might incorporate elements of that particular style as you exercise leadership in a practice or health care organization setting.
  4. Discuss any particular areas for improvement the assessments helped you identify and some steps for improving your leadership capabilities.

You are required to cite three to five sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and nursing content.

A Treatment regime, including pharmacology, for the disease or health condition you selected, along with how the treatment regime may affect a client's lifestyle

PLEASE CHECK THE COMPETENCES AT THE END; THIS IS HOW I GET THE POINTS!!!

Create a 10–12-slide PowerPoint presentation to identify medications associated with a chosen disease or health condition, explain the actions and side effects of the medications, and discuss any controversies related to the medications. Explain a treatment regime, including pharmacology, for the disease or health condition you selected, along with how the treatment regime may affect a client’s lifestyle.

Imagine your supervisor has asked you to conduct a lunch and learn session to educate your fellow nursing staff on pharmacological interventions.

Preparation:

Select a disease or health condition that requires pharmacological intervention. You may choose any disease or health condition you wish, but the disease or health condition must be relevant to nurses from a variety of settings (for example: ER, pediatrics, public health, et cetera).

Requirements:

Once you have selected a disease or health condition, create a PowerPoint presentation you could use in your lunch and learn session, including the following:

· Identify the disease or health condition you have chosen, along with the areas where nurses are likely to see it. (Do this in the agenda slide or next slide after the agenda.)

· Identify the three drugs used most often in the treatment of the disease or health condition.

· Explain the types of actions, side effects, indications, and contraindications that could be expected from the pharmacological treatment.

· Describe the treatment regime most often prescribed for the disease or health condition. This should include pharmacology but not be limited to pharmacology.

· Explain how the treatment regime (including pharmacology) may impact a client’s lifestyle. Consider things such as finances, ease or complexity of administration, instructions (frequency, duration), et cetera.

· Describe how a nurse should monitor a client being treated for the disease or health condition in order to obtain a quality patient outcome.

· Explain any controversies associated with the drugs used in the treatment. For example, is there a black box warning with any of the drugs?

Use the notes section of each slide to expand your points or draft your mock oral presentation (or both) and reference your resources. Use at least 3 peer-reviewed or professional resources to support your work in this assessment. Be sure your PowerPoint includes a title slide, a slide with your agenda or list of topics to be covered, and a reference slide. Follow current APA style and formatting guidelines for your citations and references.

Additional Requirements

· Number of slides: 10–12, not including the title and reference slides.

Adding Structure and Transitions

Assignment: Adding Structure and Transitions

For this Assignment, you will review the Learning Resources on transitions, paragraph development, and the MEAL plan. With the principles outlined in the Learning Resources in mind, you will add transitional phrases, words, or sentences that connect your three paraphrased main ideas from the Week 3 Assignment.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review      the Learning Resources related to transitions, paragraph development, and      the MEAL plan.
  • Review      your three paraphrased main ideas from the Week 3      Assignment with the MEAL plan model in mind.

The Assignment: Max 550 words, APA format, 2 references.

Revise the three paraphrased main points from the Week 3 Assignment to align with MEAL plan guidelines (see attached filed for week 3 assignment).

To do so, separate each main point into its own paragraph. Add a topic sentence (the M in the MEAL plan), and add 2–3 sentences per paraphrased main point to create connection between the ideas. Be sure to review your Week 2 Assignment (see attached file for week 2 assignment) where you created a rationale for selecting each main point. That particular Assignment may help guide you in creating transitional phrases for better flow.

Use the following questions to guide the writing of your paragraphs:

1) Does each paragraph begin with a clearly stated topic sentence?

2) Does each paragraph include a paraphrased main point?

3) Does each paragraph incorporate transitional phrases to flow from one idea to the next?
