Demonstrate ethical competencies in the community health analysis and plan
According to NACCHO’s MAPP User Handbook:
“The Forces of Change Assessment (FOCA) focuses on identifying forces such as legislation, technology, and other impending changes that affect the context in which the community and its public health system operate. This answers the questions: “What is occurring or might occur that affects the health of our community or the local public health system?” and “What specific threats or opportunities are generated by these occurrences?” The student should use the same sources as used in the Community Themes and Strengths Assessment. Also, the student should include national and international trends that may have a local impact on the community (NACCHO, n.d.)
The student will:
- Identify the individuals listed as MAPP Task Force members in the Organization Plan who could sit on the FOCA sub-committee.
- Detail how the FOCA will be completed: a series of brainstorming sessions, a survey, focus groups or a combination of information-gathering techniques? The student should be as descriptive as possible. Refer to the “Tip Sheet Index” on pages 99 – 125 of the MAPP User Handbook for ideas.
- Identify and analyze two key forces of change – one positive, one negative – based on evidence (not opinion alone), and detail how and why these may have local impact. The student may consider using the following questions to assist in the identification of the forces of change (NACCHO, n.d., page 69):
- What has occurred recently that may affect the local public health system or community?
- What may occur in the future?
- Are there any trends occurring that will have an impact? Describe the trends.
- What forces are occurring locally? Regionally? Nationally? Globally?
- What characteristics of the community or state may pose an opportunity or threat?
- What may occur or has occurred that may pose a barrier to achieving the shared vision?
Your paper should be typed, up to five (5) pages in length, and follow the APA Style which includes using a cover page, one inch margins, double spaced, and 12 inch Times New Roman font with a reference page.
