Preparing a Strategic Career Plan
My career vision
My career vision is to be a senior manager women’s health care nurse practitioner (WHNP) offering compassionate and high-quality nursing care. I would love to specialize in perinatal and postpartum care in my later years. Considering the various risks that are associated with childbirth, I want to ensure that I help as many women as possible have a smooth pregnancy journey and know how to take care of their babies. In my early years working as an NP, I would love to take care of women and generally help promote women’s health. The care service for women ranges from everything to do with women’s health counseling, contraceptive advice, and provision, to pregnancy care and postpartum care, and pediatric care among others.
My future work
I want to work in a women’s health clinic or a nursing and maternity center. I feel like these will be the most ideal places where I can concentrate well on women’s health. I hope to find a facility with a professional and friendly environment where I can collaborate well with my colleagues to offer the best care to our patients. I also want it to be a learning environment where I can feel challenged professionally and appreciated. I want to be able to have a professional and free relationship with my patients.

My short term and long term goals
My short-term goal is to finish my undergraduate studies, enroll in the WHNP program, register for the WNHP examination, and apply for certification after graduating. A month after my certification, I would apply for membership in the American Nurses Association (ANA) and Association of Women’s Health Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), to give me a platform to interact with professionals and improve my career knowledge. This will be helpful because as a fresh graduate I need guidance on what steps I should take next. My long-term goals involve having a backup specification, I would love to be a certified family NP in five years and further my studies to get a DNP degree in 10 years.
I am looking for
I am looking forward to passing all my exams and graduating, having my certification, having a full-time job, gaining professional experience, and working in a professional environment. I want to be in a place where I feel that my services are needed and that my work is acknowledged. I am also looking forward to being a mentor in my future years in the NP career. I want to impact upcoming nurses to have a good transition just like am hoping for mine. Transition To Practice And Children Health
Salary
I desire to have an initial hourly pay rate of $51.17. I desire to work for a facility that will provide me with various employee benefits including paid vacations and sick leaves, professional leave, health insurance that covers at least 2 family members, allowance for licensure, retirement plans, professional liability insurance, professional meetings fee reimbursement and reimbursement for continuing education.
My ideal work situation
My ideal work situation is a woman’s health clinic that is located in Miami, Florida. I want it to be a busy clinic that operates 24 hours a day, where I can feel that am putting my knowledge where it is supposed to be and gaining enough quality experience. I would also love to work in a facility that protects its employees by offering them safe working equipment and providing resources so that I can have an easy time executing my duties. My target population is women of all ages and with various conditions. I want to be general with women’s health in my early career years as a certified NP.
I am flexible working any shift as I am not planning to start a family soon. I would prefer the working schedule to be 7 am to 7 pm or 7 pm to 7 am. I have an interest in the women population which is why I want to start by offering care services to women with various conditions. After gaining quality professional experience I will focus more on my interest which is perinatal and postpartum care.
My priorities
My priority in my career is to gain professional experience by securing a good job in a facility that provides a professional working environment. I also want to be an active member of the professional nursing organizations that I am intending to join as I know they will give me guidance in my career path. In the next 5 years, I see my career growing so much as I will have the experience and I will start to specialize more in pregnant women and childbirth. I believe I will also be a leader then and that will be the beginning of my journey to becoming a senior manager in women’s health care.
My plan on researching opportunities
While looking for employment I will use various methods and tools to look for opportunities. The methods and tools include friends, government advertisements, job fairs, web, medical employment agencies, and institution websites. Through job fairs, I will be able to meet the head of different organizations, be informed on job vacancies, be counseled on employment, and gain offers on training. Using my smartphone, I will be able to browse and look for jobs in my area of interest and apply for available vacancies. I can also look upon institutions’ websites and see whether there are vacancies. Medical employment agencies are agencies that lookup for healthcare talent and connect nurses or medical professionals looking for jobs to the best employers. I will register with a trustworthy agency that will make me improve my CV writing skills to professional standards and introduce me to the best employers. Transition To Practice And Children Health
My networking ideas
To improve and create strong networks I will make the internet my close friend and also enquire connections through my friends and my mentor. Social networking will help look for jobs like it helps in providing information. I will make sure that I have a professional profile on LinkedIn as it is one of the leading platforms that can increase my chances of securing employment as a fresh graduate. Other platforms that are good for networking include Twitter, Facebook, Xing, telegram, Instagram, Market-based, and Lunchmeat.
Interview
This is what I will do when preparing for an interview. I will research the company that has scheduled an interview with me or where I sent my CV. I will practice the answers that should be given for common and general questions that might be asked in an interview. I will study my job description including what I entail, tasks expected, actions I should do in specific situations under my job description, and the results I am expected to deliver. I will practice my interview questions with a friend as though it was a real situation. I will arrange what to wear the night before my interview. It has to be presentable and official wear. I will also arrange my professional documents in the bag that I will carry on the interview day. I will wear my confident face as I go for the interview.
My practice
When starting my practice, the populations that I will serve include pregnant women and children. These populations need a special focus that I believe giving them full attention to will serve their needs to the very best. I will market my practice through social media platforms, word of mouth, advertisement posters, and by offering quality services that I hope to get referrals from them. The personnel that I need to hire include professional and certified nurses and physicians with experience especially those who have specified in pediatrics and women’s health, certified nurse assistants, and other office staff such as receptionists, guards, cleaners, and cooks among others.
I will obtain funding from my savings, business, and loans or partnerships. I will be operating 24 hours a day but with less staff during nighttime to make sure working patients get services when they need them without the restrictions posed by limited operating hours. I will hire other providers so that I can have a guarantee that patients will be having services even when I am not able to provide all the resources. Besides, I believe in teamwork and I believe that hiring other providers will be a way of creating a little team that we can think of progress together. Transition To Practice And Children Health
