Overview of the article
• Authors claim –
• The author claim that based on analysis, CBT efficacy provide moderate
effect if used for alcohol or drug addiction treatment.
• If Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is used, it reduces the consumption, quantity
and frequency of substance used at the earlier state.
• CBT requires the use of follow-up strategies or methods to keep addicted
person is in check.
• CBT did not demonstrate much superiority in effectiveness compared to
other specific modality. Nursing homework help

Delineating the outcome/findings
• CBT efficacy gave a moderate effect if used for alcohol or drug addiction
treatment in terms of frequency and quantity outcomes at early stages (1 to 6
months) and late (8 + months)
 This was obtained from the pool effect size for frequency was p=0.09 at early
follow up and p=0.39 at late follow up.
 Quantity outcomes also yielded p=0.98 at early stage and late follow up.
• When CBT was compared to other non-specific therapy (group drug
counseling or supportive therapy), it was small and statistically significant.
This study source was downloaded by 100000806925124 from CourseHero.com on 04-22-2022 04:38:45 GMT -05:00

How results translates into practice
• If the efficacy is quite moderate, then it is a somewhat appropriate tool to
improve patient self control (Spear et al., 2017).
• That additional strategy or remodeling must be done to allow good follow ups
when CBT is employed.
• It can change old habits (Marginean, 2017; Carroll & Kiluk, 2017)
• It can be used to help patients recognize situations which might evoke drug
use or alcohol use.
• From the results it can also mean that CBT cannot be used alone to achieve
100% efficacy.
• It an intervention that has a higher efficacy at the early stages.
This study source was downloaded by 100000806925124 from CourseHero.com on 04-22-2022 04:38:45 GMT -05:00

Limitations
• Failed to include the CBT frequency effect sizes for follow-ups, although the
author claimed that it shown smaller effect size.
• Neglecting the above information by the author showed some form of bias,
and that can change the perspectives of using CBT as an overall therapy.
• The other limitation is that most specific intervention used as comparing
variables did have a combination of therapeutical methods. But the author
used CBT alone without combination of supportive therapies that moves along
with it during comparison.
• This means when CBT is combined with other therapeutic methods is likely the
efficacy would be heightened and can be used clinically as to effect change in
behavior. Nursing homework help

Legislative Agendas of four Nursing Organizations

Legislative Agendas of four Nursing Organizations

Legislative Agenda means a program of proposed legislations to support policies and programs of government (Casey, 2020). In this discussion, the main focus is comparing and contrasting the legislative agendas of four nursing organizations, that is; American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, International Council of Nurses, and National Black Nurses Association. Such organizations emerge as effective means by which the nursing profession can influence policy, advocate for quality services, avail continued education opportunities, and protect the interests of nurses. In this case, the organizations tend to come up with legislative agendas and organizational missions to influence attainment of distinct objectives. Legislative Agendas of four Nursing Organizations

American Nurses Association (ANA) aims to advocate for the profession of nursing and the vital role nurses play in improving healthcare for all (Goodman, 2020). The mission of the International Council of Nurses is to represent nurses around the world, to advance the nursing profession, to enhance the well-being of nurses, and to advocate for better health policies. Nursing should be recognized and supported by the global community so that they can lead and deliver health care for everyone, according to the organization’s vision. International Council of Nurses (ICN) and American Nurses Association (ANA) are both dedicated to promoting nursing as a career choice and advancing the interests of nurses worldwide. Advocacy is defined by the ANA Code of Ethics as “the act or process of promoting, supporting, or recommending” a particular course of action (Kershaw, 2017). As nurses, we work tirelessly to improve the lives of individuals, groups, and entire communities. It is our duty to provide the best possible care and ensure the safety of those in our care, and we take this responsibility seriously. Legislative Agendas of four Nursing Organizations

The four major nursing organizations have made significant contributions to the development of public policy. Advocates who actively participate in policymaking are seen as having a distinct advantage over those who do not. The Global Advisory Panel on the Future of Nursing (GAPFON) and Midwifery’s 2014-2017 Summative Report was officially released by Sigma Theta Tau (“Sigma theta tau international,” 2018). The National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) has teamed up with the National Association of Black Nurses to implement the report’s recommendations in this nursing profession’s transformation (Gorham, 2018). To meet the growing demand for high-quality health care, registered nurses must assume leadership roles. When it comes to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and how it intersects with the Future of Nursing’s description of the transformation of nursing, the NBNA is steadfast in its commitment to lead the change and play a key role in implementing strategies that will transform health care and lead us to a healthier nation (Casey, 2020). For this discussion, four nursing organizations that I chose were, American Nurses Association, Emergency Nurses Association, National League for Nursing and National Institute of Nursing Research. All these organizations play a significant role in the profession of nursing in its unique way.

The American Nurses Association is the largest nursing organization in the United States. It has a tremendous amount of political influence. The American Nurses Association’s federal legislative agenda is focused on advancing the essential function nurses play in the welfare of patients and the health of the country, as well as ensuring a robust nursing profession in the future (Craig, et al., 2020). The association states its mission as “As the philanthropic arm of the American Nurses Association (ANA), our vision is to achieve ‘a healthy world through the power of nursing’, and this is more relevant today than ever. With the future of health care changing so dramatically, nurses can revolutionize the approach to care for the better” (American Nurses Foundation, 2021). Nursing homework help

The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) is committed to advocating on federal legislative and regulatory problems impacting emergency nurses and patients in the same manner that nurses advocate on behalf of their clients. The legislative agenda of the ENA comprises the following items: meetings with political representatives on Capitol Hill on a regular basis; keeping track of federal legislation that may have an impact on emergency nursing; making submissions to regulatory agencies on programs and policies that impact emergency nurses (Government Relations – Emergency Nurses Association, 2022).  The ENA mission is to: “advance excellence in emergency nursing. Our vision is to be the premier organization for the emergency nursing community worldwide” (About ENA, 2022).

The National League for Nursing was established in 1893 as the American Society of Superintendents of Training Schools for Nurses. It was the first nursing organization to be established in the United States. The National League for Nursing’s objective is to be the industry leader in creating standards, developing excellence and innovation, and advocating for all forms of academic and continuous learning initiatives in nursing.  The National League of Nursing’s goal in the legislative arena is to design and promote regulations that have an impact on nursing professional expansion (Public Policy, 2022). The National League for Nursing states its missions as: “Promote excellence in nursing education to build a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the health of our nation and the global community.” (Core Values, 2022)

The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) is a branch of the National Institutes of Health in the United States of America. The organization promotes clinical and fundamental research in order to develop a scientific foundation for the nursing care of persons throughout their lives. It encompasses all phases of nursing care, including the treatment of patients throughout illness and rehabilitation, the reduction of the risk of disease and disability, and the advocacy of healthy lifestyles (National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), 2020)Nursing homework help. The National Institute of Nursing Research is a federal agency for conducting and supporting nursing research which has a significant effect in nursing as a profession on a national level. While the organization itself doesn’t have active legislative initiatives, it influences nursing profession via research. The mission of the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) is to “promote and improve the health of individuals, families, and communities” (National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), 2020). Develop a 4–6-page proposal for executive leadership that addresses  changes you would like to see within your organization that would  advance the field of nursing.

Nursing is in the midst of many changes. In this assessment you  will consider how you can be a driving force to bring about needed  change within the field of nursing.

Collaborative interprofessional groups are at the heart of resolving  contemporary nursing issues. The work of groups and teams is based on  strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, led by effective and  engaged leaders. Nurses leading collaborative teams are critical for  resolving a number of issues such as errors in medications, accidents  involving patients, and unsafe shortcuts.

Nurses truly are expert problem-solvers. Tucker and Edmondson  (2002) found that nurses utilized problem-solving skills so often that  it had become a routine aspect of a nurse’s day. However, nurses must be  able to maximize their problem-solving skills in order to lead health  care teams in addressing challenges, identifying evidence-based  solutions, and implementing those solutions.

Preparation

To prepare for this assessment, you will need to think about  changes you feel are needed to address a problem either within nursing  as a professional field or within the organization where you work.  Narrow down your options by considering which change would best be  undertaken by an interprofessional team. Some examples for you to  consider might include:

  • The use of mobile and portable technology to support patients.
  • Using evidence-based practice (EBP) to improve patient care.
  • Increasing patient safety and quality of care.
  • The use of medical technology such as genes and stem cells, or robots in the OR.
  • Addressing the nursing shortage now and into the future.
  • Improving the work environment (providing calm, supportive spaces  for nurses; improved dialog between health care professionals).
  • Better safety for nurses at work (violence, spreading diseases, physical injury).
  • Substance abuse by health care professionals.

Or you can narrow the scope to an issue within your own organization:

  • Developing a mobility program for an inpatient unit.
  • Implementing “smart” technology to assist in patient monitoring.
  • Creating a mentoring program to attract and retain nurses.
  • Implementing protocols for infection control and/or treatment of an epidemic.
  • Developing a plan to eliminate physical violence and verbal abuse in the workplace.
  • Other.

Once you have selected an issue to address, look for scholarly and  professional articles that focus on the problem, the needed change, and  how interprofessional teams can work together to drive change.

Requirements

Lately you have noticed the need for changes within your  organization that would advance the field of nursing. You have decided  to develop a proposal and submit it to executive leadership. Format this  assessment as a professional proposal. You may want to look at how  proposals are drafted within your organization and follow that format.  You will still need a references page; follow APA guidelines for in-text  citations and references.

Address the following in your proposal:

  • Briefly describe the problem and how it impacts the organization, patients, and/or the nursing profession.
  • Describe possible evidence-based interventions for the problem.
  • Analyze potential barriers and resistance to change that might come from the organization, patients, and/or colleagues.
  • Describe strategies to overcome barriers and resistance to change.
  • Develop a plan to implement evidence-based interventions. What steps would you take? What resources might you need?
  • Identify other health care professionals to enlist as team members to help drive change in the organization.

Your completed assessment should be 4–6 pages in length, not  including title page and references page. Support your statements and  intervention plan with references to and citations for at least four  scholarly or professional resources.

Additional Requirements

  • Include a title page and references page.
  • Reference at least four current scholarly or professional resources.
  • Use APA format for citations and references.
  • Use Times New Roman font, 12 point.
  • Double space.
