ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO MEET THE COMPETENCES; PLS READ THE COMPETENCES !

Investigate your organization’s compliance rate with one specific core measure of your choice and write a 2-3-page (maximum) executive summary analyzing the financial and regulatory impact of organizational compliance with your chosen measure. Include recommendations for improving performance on the measure.

In order to promote safe, caring, patient-centered environments, nurse leaders must both conceptually understand and be proficient at performing a wide variety of leadership skills. Effective nursing leaders develop and maintain awareness of issues that emerge at many levels within and outside of their organizations. In addition to developing self-assessing competencies necessary for their roles, nurse leaders must also acquire organizational and systems leadership skill sets.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 4: Policy, Finance, and Regulations – Understand the scope and role of policy, finance, and regulatory environments in relationship to individual and population outcomes.
    • Compare the compliance rates of a specific measure for different organizations.
    • Explain the importance of compliance in terms of policy, regulation, and finance.
  • Competency 5: Communication – Communicate effectively with all members of the health care team, including interdepartmental and interdisciplinary collaboration for quality outcomes.
    • Write coherently to support a central idea with correct grammar, usage, and mechanics as expected of a nursing professional.
  • Competency 6: Organizational and Systems Management – Apply knowledge of organizational behavior, nursing theory, and systems (micro- and macro-) as appropriate for the scope and role of one’s own practice.
    • Explain strategies to overcome described organizational barriers to change.
  • Competency 9: Professional Role – Incorporate the qualities, skills, behaviors, and knowledge required to function as a patient advocate, practice high-quality care, assess and evaluate patient outcomes, and provide leadership in improving care.
    • Identify the stakeholders affected by changes to a specific compliance measure and describe changes that would improve compliance of a specific measure.

Assessment Instructions

For this assessment, write an executive summary analyzing the financial and regulatory impact of organizational compliance with a specific core measure of your choice. The summary must include recommendations for improving performance on the measure.

You must be able to explain the financial implications associated with the measure, as well as its importance in terms of policy, regulation, and finance. This is another good opportunity to consult with a key stakeholder within the organization. Talking to someone who works closely with the organization’s finances can help you develop a deeper understanding of the financial aspects of compliance. You also need to suggest ways your organization can improve compliance and how you would implement changes and overcome obstacles.

This may seem like an enormous undertaking, but you should approach it as if you were to present this information to your supervisor or manager. Keeping in mind that people in these positions do not have time to read a 10–12-page report, you would typically give them only an executive summary of your analyses and recommendations. That means that you will need to be very clear and very concise with the information you choose to include in the executive summary. Say as much as possible with as few words as possible.

Directions

Select a core measure and investigate your organization’s compliance rate with the measure. In your executive summary, address the following:

  1. Compare the compliance rates of your organization with those of other organizations.
  2. Explain why the measure is important in terms of policy, regulation, and finance.
  3. Describe changes that could be made that would improve compliance with the measure.
  4. Identify the stakeholders who would be affected by the changes.
  5. Identify obstacles you would expect to encounter and explain strategies to overcome these obstacles.

Additional Requirements

  • Format: Include a title page and references page. As this is an executive summary, do not use APA style and formatting. To determine the appropriate format, it may be helpful for you to review the documents used in your organization. How do they look? What kind of language is used in memos? These can help guide your development of this executive summary. Certainly, feel free to use bullet points as appropriate.
  • Length: Write a 2–3-page (maximum) summary of your information, not including the title page and references page.
  • References: You must still reference scholarly resources to support your work. Use at least three current scholarly or professional resources.
  • Font: Use 12-point, Times New Roman font.

Competency Assignment 2Personal Health Records (PHRs) are designed to give consumers access and control of their health information.  PHR

                               Competency Assignment 2

Personal Health Records (PHRs) are designed to give consumers access and control of their health information.  PHRs are tools that give consumers a view of their health care data, either from information they have entered, information linked to their health care provider, or information generated from insurance claim data.

As Personal Health Records (PHRs) proliferate, the consumer is faced with many choices.  PHRs offered through insurance plans and employers limit the consumer choices but they do provide links to clinical data.  Stand-alone web-based PHRs offer more features but with little interface to the patient’s current clinical information.

While there are numerous Personal Health Record products available, the industry is still at an introduction to growth stage.  There are no established standards such as those available with electronic medical records and no agency that certifies the offerings.  The consumer must rely on their own criteria in choosing a product.

Some of the criteria that have proven to be critical for electronic medical records and for health web site services can be combined to apply them to PHRs.  They include: privacy, security, usability, portability, completeness, vendor reliability, and access/availability.

  1. Availability/Access:  This refers to the consumer’s ability to access and manage their personal record via the Web.  Access also includes minimal accessibility standards defined by the W3C and by federal laws (508 compliance).
  2. Completeness: This refers to the information fields available in the records.  The basic PHR should capture, demographics, health behaviors, social history, family health history, allergies, medications, lab results, past medical care, current existing conditions, physician information, insurance information, etc.
  3. Privacy: Web site has published privacy policy that protects individually identifiable information (no disclosure without consent).  Privacy refers to policies that protect the unauthorized secondary usage of information.  The PHR should indicate if it meets HIPAA security requirements.
  4. Security: This refers to the technical protections available on the system including passwords, authentication mechanisms, secure connections, etc.  In an ideal situation, the site should have a consumer-accessible audit log to see who has viewed the information.  The site should also provide details of if/when the consumer is notified about breaches of security.  Are you aware of the site security through policies and symbols?
  5. Usability: This refers to the features available on the site. The PHR should provide the ability for a non-technical or not IT-related individual to easily join, navigate, and enter information. The level of jargon on the site as well as navigation links can influence the perceived usage.  A novice user should be able to successfully complete registration, information entry, printing, saving, and information retrieval. Is there help or support available? Is the information presented using “common language” or is it full of jargon (Basically, can you grandmother understand it? Can someone with an 8th grade reading level understand it?)
  6. Portability: This refers to the consumer’s ability to move records out of the current provider to others.  This feature can be both via paper or electronic. Is the information portable – do you have to print it?  Can you electronically download any of the information?  Can you email the information?
  7. Vendor reliability: This refers to the reliability and history of the vendor.  A new service may not have the ability to continue business operations and has a high chance of closure.  Vendors linked to or partnering with sponsoring national organization provide more stability.

Use the criteria provide to evaluate, search for a PHR.  You may be able to use the one affiliated with YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE (now is a good time to find out if they have one). Or, you can find one from http://myphr.com

Write a report that includes:

  1. Overview of the PHR
  2. Who is the target consumer?
  3. Evaluation of the PHR using the 7 listed criteria (a paragraph on each)
  4. Recommendations for improving the PHR
  5. Conclusion

TOPIC     IN VITRO FERTILIZATION (IVF)

Using the six peer-reviewed literature articles from your annotated bibliography, compose an integrated review that focuses on a clinical issue of interest. Ensure that the topic of this integrated review is viewed from the perspective of a healthcare professional who is looking to validate the need for program evaluation at your hospital, even if your annotated bibliography was not this focused.  Specifically, your integrated review should focus on the following critical elements:

I. Abstract Craft a well-drafted abstract. Be sure to adhere to the guidelines from the latest edition of the American Psychological Association’s style guide. Consider the appropriate length for your audience.

II. Introduction a) State the purpose, aims, or objectives of the integrated review. What do you wish to achieve through the drafting of this review? Be explicit in your answer. b) Introduce the topic of interest. Why is this topic the focus of the review? c) What is the research question you are going to focus on? If you were to prepare a research proposal, what would your hypothesis be? Why?  d) What variables are of interest to you? How will these variables help you throughout this integrated review? Be sure to label the types of variables each of these are.  e) Discuss the background and significance of the problem to healthcare administration.

III. Literature Search a) What keywords and combinations were used in the initial search? Which were the most effective? Explain why these keywords and combinations provided the most useful results.  b) Which databases were searched? Why were these the chosen databases? Assess the characteristics that make these databases the most reliable.  c) Evaluate the inclusion and exclusion criteria for the sample. How did you decide to narrow the search and focus the review? How was the final sample determined? Be sure to include your process.

IV. Methodology Analysis a) What methodology was used in this research? Was it effective for the research question and hypothesis? Why or why not? Consider including improvements for the methodology.  b) What statistical data analyses were employed in these articles? Were they appropriate for the research question and methodology? Why or why not?  c) Evaluate the literature for any gaps that exist. Why do you think these gaps exist? Consider factors such as the location of the research, time the research was conducted, and so on.  d) Evaluate the literature for inconsistencies that exist across the studies. Why do you think these inconsistencies exist? Consider factors such as the location of the research, time the research was conducted, and so on.

V. Synthesis and Interpretation a) Create an evidence table of your results. Be sure to include the following criteria for each study:  1. Report citation 2. Design 3. Method 4. Sample 5. Data collection 6. Data analysis 7. Validity and reliability b) Compare and contrast the study findings. Be sure to include pertinent conclusions and statistical findings only.  c) Evaluate the research strategies used in the articles, as applicable to healthcare programs. Was the research design appropriate for the study conducted? Was the statistical analysis employed the best choice for the research questions posed?  d) What ethical issues are pertinent specifically to healthcare research? How can these issues influence the research strategies chosen to investigate clinical topics? Evaluate these research articles and consider how ethical concerns may have limited these clinical investigations.  e) What patterns and trends exist in the research? What generalizations can you draw from the research?  f) If secondary data was utilized, was the source biased or objective? Why? If original research was conducted, do you think the researchers were biased or objective? Why? Be sure to support your answer.

  g) Synthesize the main findings of the research articles. What were the hypotheses of the research studies? Did the research add any new scholarly information to the existing body of knowledge? h) Assess whether utilizing secondary data as an alternative to the researchers’ original research would have been a feasible option. If it had been an option, what resource(s) would be the most appropriate to use? What would be some of the strengths and limitations of using secondary data? i) Assess the literature for any ethical concerns that may be present. Consider things such as conflicts of interest between the researcher and the study sponsors, or the lack of an IRB approval for the study.

VI. Conclusion a) What are the studies’ strengths? Are there patterns in the articles that you chose regarding their strengths?  b) What are the studies’ limitations? Are there patterns in the articles that you chose regarding their limitations?  c) Were the findings and conclusions reliable and valid? Why or why not? Logically support your answers.  d) What are the implications of this research? How will it influence your topic in the overall large picture of healthcare research?
