DISCUSS SPECIFIC HEALTHCARE PROJECTS, SERVICES, OR PROCESSES THAT COME WITH SIGNIFICANT RISK.

Risk is inherent in providing healthcare services. We will always deal with a certain amount of risk as we go about our work of caring for patients each day. Discuss at least two specific healthcare projects, services, or processes that come with significant risk. As CEO of your own healthcare facility, how would you work to reduce risk in these areas?

Please include the name of the person or question to which you are replying in the subject line. For example, “Tom’s response to Susan’s comment.”

ALSO PLEASE REPLY TO STUDENTS COMMENT BELOW

Two examples of healthcare projects that pose organizational risk are 1) the implementation of an electronic health record system (EHR) to replace an existing paper-based system; and 2) implementation of telehealth services.  In these examples, there can be a physical risk that accompanies placement of new equipment, such as physical plant and clinic layout changes that may cause trips and falls, which can result in staff and patient injuries.  Another physical risk could be physiological impacts to staff using the equipment, such as whether the new equipment is ergonomically sound for daily use, and if not, the potential impact to lost days of work due to injury.   Financial risks to be considered include the cost of new equipment and ongoing maintenance, the cost of specialized training, and the cost to provide temporary help or vendor consultations to support staff while they’re trying to get over the learning curve.  Another financial risk concerns the privacy of health information as there are fines associated with breaches, as well as a loss of trust from patients and their families.  Psychological risk can include providers who are being asked to use new technology, which may be difficult to adapt to and cause frustration; or remote encounters via telehealth that negatively affect the behavior of both staff and patients, or their patient-provider relationships.
As an administrator, a comprehensive risk assessment would need to be conducted before taking major changes to the delivery of health care services.  The risk assessment would include: identifying potential harm (i.e., physical, psychological or financial), identifying who could be harmed; determining risk levels, identifying mitigating factors already in place and new precautions to be put into place, consultation with stakeholders who can be impacted; completing a cost-benefit analysis, arriving at final decision, and documenting the entire risk assessment process, findings and decisions

Discussion # 1

My top five themes are: Harmony, consistency, Relator, Deliberative and Analytical. As a leader, I would want my team to get along and follow clearly defined expectations. A great leader strives to establish trust in the team and let them know that they are there for you and will advocate for your wellbeing and success (Broome & Marshall, 2021). Being deliberative is often mistaking with being shy, I just like to listen and analyze before I draw conclusions. I see myself more as a moral leader that is there to make sure that everything runs smoothy, and that everybody is pulling their weight. A moral leader is a great model of integrity and fairness and is also there to support and serve the team members (Li & Li, 2021). Analytical means to be a leader who like to see measurable outcomes to define success. A leader who likes to educate by using a reasoned approach to solve problems. Nursing homework help

The two characteristics that I would like to strengthen are:  includer and communication. I tend to stay within my comfort zone and ride with my team, my own little crew; I am slow to make new friends. Having good communication skills gives rise to effective and healthy relationship within the team and leaves little room for misunderstanding (Raouf et al., 2020). I have little issue with verbal communication and tend to listen more and keep my opinion to myself until I am positive, I have something valuable and constructive to offer to the discussion. I would like to work on finding better ways to communicate with my team besides quoting rules and regulations. Nursing homework help

Discussion # 2

The Clifton Strengths Finder 2.0 test showed that my top 5 signature themes were adaptability, includer, ideation, relator, and input. Adaptability shows that I can be productive in any situation and I’m able to change or pivot to meet the needs of the whole. The includer theme shows that I don’t want anyone to feel left out. That I am accepting of others and want to have a positive group setting.  Ideation shows that I am open to any kind of ideas, and I enjoy the process of thinking of new ideas. Relator shows that I want to bring my friends closer and build comradery. I want to be able to put my trust in others. Input is the last of my themes. I collect information and items on subjects that I enjoy.

Two core values that I hold to are human dignity and altruism. Altruism refers to an unselfish concern in others’ well-being. Altruism in nursing is giving the best care to every patient without expecting anything in return. Human dignity refers to treating each person as a human being and respecting their individuality (Alavi et al., 2017).

Two strengths that I would like to focus on would be adaptability and includer. Adaptability is my number one strength according to the strengths finder. Adaptability has especially become important in times of a covid pandemic. There may be acute changes in CDC or hospital guidelines as well as increased deaths and an effective leader must be adaptable to these changes . Inclusivity is important for effective leadership as well. Inclusivity allows for a group to have a sense of direction. A leader must be inclusive with his or her followers to achieve a common goal (Uhl-Bien, 2021).

Two characteristics I would like to strengthen include woo and positivity. Woo is the ability to win people over and convince them to support your cause. Woo is a measure of how well you can get others to like you. Positivity is a strength that helps support yourself and others around you. A positive leader allows an increased enthusiasm to work together and achieve the goal. I believe being strong in these two characteristics would synergize well with my current leadership strengths (Rath, 2017).

QSEN Pre- licensure KSAs Patient-centered Care Recognizing and knowing the cultural differences of each patient and their social background and their values when it comes to healthcare and the healing process (Cronenwett et al., 2007). Within seven days, I will learn to communicate by using the guidelines and information provided on QSEN. By knowing how to approach and provide care individually, the patients will feel respected and valued. I will learn to provide patient- centered care to an individual that they will feel safe and that they are part of the decision when it comes to their care. To provide self-centered care, It is essential to know the patient’s values, beliefs, cultural background, and readiness to learn to get better. Understanding how they approach or value health care, I’ll be able to provide better and more effective care to my patients.
QSEN Pre- licensure KSAs Safety Reduces the risk of harm to every patient and provider and delivers care effectively (Cronenwett et al., 2007). Within two weeks, I can learn how to identify the risk factors that can contribute to patient safety. By identifying errors, I can safely communicate to others how to avoid possible dangers that might occur when safety measures are being put aside. There are many resources that I can use to learn and get information, for example, the QSEN study material and the university library. As a nurse, I always need to prioritize the safety of my patients. Safety is paramount; many guidelines need to be followed when providing care. By valuing the safety protocol of hospitals or facilities, I can prevent patient harm from happening.

Guiding Entity Competency/Essential Needed KSAs Improvement Plan Importance
The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education Clinical Prevention and Population Health Health promotion, disease, and injury prevention across the lifespan are essential elements of baccalaureate nursing practice at the individual and population levels (AACN, 2008, pg 23). The knowledge that I need to know on promoting health and disease prevention can help make a difference in the community. Assisting individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations in preparing and minimizing the health consequences of emergencies, including mass casualty disasters, is a skill needed to help improve the health of individuals or communities. Also, caring with passion will have a positive effect A month from today, I will develop skills that can be very helpful to provide disease prevention and health promotion. I will focus on studying how to improve disease prevention and how to deliver this message to the member of the community. Teaching about handwashing, vaccinations are just a few examples that I can do by myself to share knowledge with others. Knowing how to prevent some illnesses is essential knowledge that a nurse should have. As a nurse, I can help the community or individuals avoid the spread of infection and avoid getting or catching it, for example, being up to date on vaccination, teaching the importance of handwashing, wearing a face mask. With this knowledge, I can make a difference in the community.
The Essentials of Baccalaureate Education Professionalism and Professional Values Professional values and the associated behaviors are foundational to the practice of nursing (AACN, 2008, pg. 26). The inherent in professional practice is an understanding of nursing practice’s historical, legal, and contemporary context (AACN, 2008. pg 26.) It is essential to know the Within seven days, I will provide care with compassion and delegate appropriate work to other healthcare teams to provide care promptly. It is not easy to delegate sometimes, especially when you have an overwhelming workload. But, I plan to have good time management to provide care Professionalism in healthcare is vital because, as a nurse, we deal with so many circumstances. Nurses have to act professionally when communicating with patients and the patient’s families. Professionalism comes with accountability, meaning we are in a profession where we are

patients and how to approach a patient or family. Different cultures require different approaches, so knowing their backgrounds is necessary. Having accountability and professionalism will result in a positive patient-nurse relationship and better health outcomes. fast and safely. accountable for our actions. Showing professionalism has a positive effect on the person around us. Nurses gain trust and respect in their work by how they look, talk, and provide care. As a nurse, gaining trust from the patient and family is very important, and this trust is difficult to attain without showing professionalism.

Assessment of Health Promotion

Assessment of Health Promotion

Assessment of Health Promotion Case Two

Interaction patterns define how patients and nurses relate or interact with each other. For instance, the patients may feel comfortable sharing their personal information with a certain nurse and fail to trust another. Therefore, handling interaction patterns well could improve outcomes. Effective communication, except exchanging information, refers to understanding patients’ emotions, experiences, and opinions. For example, healthcare practitioners can maintain eye contact with their patients, growing their trust even when exhausted. Maintaining good composure, showing empathy, and understanding the patients could be show effectiveness in PQs practice within the community. Assessment of Health Promotion

ORDER A PLAGIARISM FREE PAPER NOW

The ability to express emotions refers to showing emotions correctly in different situations. For example, when a patient is talking about a painful condition, a healthcare practitioner can show them how they feel by making an impression by showing empathy or smiling when they make a joke. Conversely, expressing conflicting emotions results in ineffectiveness. Responsiveness to members’ needs as individuals means the ability to assist patients in their capacities. For example, when a healthcare practitioner can help two patients with anxiety that different issues have caused, understand the uniqueness of each of them and address it, accordingly, ensuring each patients’ needs are met.

Problem-solving ability refers to dealing with problems timely and effectively devoid of any impediments, such as identifying a patient’s situation, such as depression, and assisting them with the issue before they harm themselves or the community. In addition, solving problems on time helps avoid complications resulting from delays. Understanding the psychological well-being of an individual is also critical as this can be a contributing factor to their conditions. Research suggests that individuals with psychological issues are more likely to have severe diseases than psychologically fit persons (Beck et al., 2021). Different cultures deal with varying issues that might be caused by unique circumstances such as systemic poverty that may limit their ability to buy healthy foods leading to, for instance, diabetes prevalence through consumption of cheap, unhealthy diets. Understanding where a person is coming from in terms of culture is essential in designing interventions, letting a healthcare practitioner apply the necessary approach to assist them. When designing interventions financial might of an individual may play an important role. Whether they will afford the prescriptions should be considered for each case.

Although family structures might be complex, the developmental family theory can aid in understanding the stages that families undergo. The family developmental cycle contains eight stages (Duvall & Young, 2019). The first stage is when the wife and husband establish their own family. The couple begins to plan for children and develops a mutually satisfying marriage. The second level starts with the birth of the couple’s first child. At this stage, the couple has a baby and is adjusting to raising it together, attempting to make their family happy. The third stage is when the family has a preschool-aged child. The couple adjusts to the children’s requirements during this period and handles the loss of energy and privacy. The fourth stage begins when children are of school age. At this stage, the couple seeks to assimilate into their societies while simultaneously supporting their children’s academic achievements. Assessment of Health Promotion

Further, the fifth stage begins when teenagers learn to manage responsibility and autonomy and acquire post-parental interests throughout this developmental era. The next phase is the launch of children. Transitioning the youngster into adulthood while preserving a stable family environment is the goal of this stage. The seventh stage occurs when couples are in their 40s and 50s, focusing on their marriage since their children are grown up. Finally, on the eighth level elderly family members focus on their retirement plans and the possibility of selling the residential property.

Family relationships have a substantial-good and negative influence on health. A close-knit and loving family gives emotional support, financial security, and improved health. Conversely, the well-being of family members is significantly harmed when the social fabric is dominated by stress and conflict (Noh et al., 2017). One of the most critical ways that family has a beneficial influence on health is through social support. Growing up in an unsupportive, inattentive, or aggressive family is related to poor physical development and health. Therefore, ensuring that a family is closely knit and cohesive improves health outcomes.

Teen Pregnancy Essay

Teen Pregnancy Essay

Case #3: Teen Pregnancy

Teen pregnancy is when a woman younger than twenty years of age gets pregnant. Although the number of cases has dropped significantly, more than half-million young teens in the United States become pregnant (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2021). Pregnant teenagers have difficulty coping with these new changes, which places them under much stress and risk for serious health conditions, such as gestational hypertension. Many contributing factors can increase the possibility of teen pregnancies, such as economic, education, and social status. Healthcare professionals should be aware of these factors and educate these individuals about preventative measures for teen pregnancies. Teen Pregnancy Essay

Health Assessment

Performing an accurate health assessment of the community can help healthcare professionals address different manners and develop a solution to the population’s health problems. There are several parameters that healthcare professionals should address when conducting community assessments concerning teen pregnancies. These parameters can include income, education, social support networks, and living environments.

Plan of Action for Teen Pregnancies

Preventative care and education are the first steps in addressing the situation. The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System has shown that one of the common health-risk behaviors among youth is sexual behaviors that have been linked to unintended pregnancies and STDs (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2017).  Teaching teenagers about safe sex practices, such as contraceptives and birth control pills, can help prevent these health problems. Schools should be able to provide classes to the students about sexual education. A healthcare professional should address contraceptive measures, safe sexual intercourse, and sexually transmitted conditions in these classes. These classes should be used for prevention, not to scare the students. If students are scared, they will feel intimidated to ask questions or seek help, risking their health. Many parents avoid talking to their children about this subject, so it is essential to provide parents with resources about the benefits of speaking to their children about safe sex practices and ways they can approach their children about the subject.

Family Developmental Stages, Structure, and Function

There are different stages in the family cycle, each contributing to a family developmental task. Each family structure and function is different based on the individual. As healthcare professionals, it is essential to address the family structures of our patients, as this can contribute to or hinder the care we give to our patients.

Here is a list of some of the family stages with their essential tasks (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2017): Teen Pregnancy Essay

  • Married couple: Role development and establishing a relationship as a family begins.
  • Childbearing families with infants: Family routines and rituals are developed. New parents learn new roles and maintain couple time and intimacy.
  • Families with preschool children: Understanding growth and development for their child and discipline is established. Energy depletion is expected in this stage.
  • Families with school-age children: Family boundaries are established as the child spends more time with others outside of the home.
  • Families with adolescents: Teen increases autonomy, and the family adapts to new family communication changes.
  • Families launching young adults: Families adapt to their new roles as young adults move in and out of the home.
  • Middle-aged parents: Retirement and the future is addressed.
  • Aging parents: Adjust to new living situations and death.
