Discuss the conceptual components of your selected middle range theory as applied to nursing practice. Example: (Kristen Swanson’s Middle Range Theory of Caring)

Conceptual Components of Theory

Conceptual Components of Theory

As with research, concepts play a critical role in theory development. Consider for a moment the purpose of theory and its application to nursing practice. At the heart of any theory—which seeks to describe, explain, predict, or prescribe—lies the concept or concepts to be explored or addressed. Within the iterative process of theory development, concepts must be defined and refined as the relationships between them are identified in order to articulate “ reality” and inform effective practice.

To prepare:

  • Reflect on the information presented Learning Resources, including Chapter 4 of Theoretical Basis for Nursing. How and why do concepts serve as the building blocks of theory?
  • Brainstorm a list of middle range theories that have been applied in nursing practice. Then, select one with which you are most familiar. If necessary, refer to Chapter 10 or 11 in the course textbook, Theoretical Basis for Nursing, for ideas. You may also conduct additional research using the Walden Library or other scholarly databases.
  • Contemplate the various conceptual components of your selected theory, including how they are defined, linked to the real world, observed, and measured.

By Tuesday 6/20/17, post 550 words essay in APA format with 3 references from the list below, that include the level one headings as numbered below:

1)       Discuss the conceptual components of your selected middle range theory as applied to nursing practice. Example: (Kristen Swanson’s Middle Range Theory of Caring)

2)       How are these components observed and measured in practice? Provide at least two specific examples.

3)       Share any insights into how the theory has developed or changed based on the testing of the concepts.

Selecting a Theoretical Framework

Selecting a Theoretical Framework

Evaluating a critical appraisal of a research framework can help you to assess the theory’s reliability and validity, as well as its applicability to research and practice. For this Discussion, you will select a theoretical framework in a published study to evaluate. In doing this, you will consider how this framework might be applied to a practice problem of interest to you.

To prepare:

  • Identify a practice problem of interest to you.
  • Locate an article in the Walden Library, or one presented in the Learning Resources, that addresses the practice problem (I’m a critical care nurse [ICU] in a hospital for the adult population). NOTE: You may wish to select an article that specifies the theoretical framework used in the research study addressing the practice problem (meaning a problem pertaining to where I practice as a nurse).
  • Using the strategies presented in Chapter 7 of The Practice of Nursing Research: Appraisal, Synthesis, and Generation of Evidence, critically analyze the selected framework, engaging in “critical appraisal of a research framework,” (p. 127).
  • Determine if the use of the selected framework was appropriate.
  • Ask yourself: Could I apply this theoretical framework to an evidence-based practice project that addresses my problem of interest?

By Wednesday 6/28/17, post 550 words essay in APA format with 3 references from the list below, that include the level one headings as numbered below:

1)       Identify the article you reviewed and the theoretical framework used to explore the practice problem.

2)       Was the framework appropriate for the research? Why or why not?

3)       What new insights did you gain from your analysis and evaluation of the theory?

4)       Could you apply this theory to a practice problem in your clinical setting? Why or why not? If not, what other theory might be better suited to a practice problem in which you are interested?

Research problem discussion

Research problem discussion

Write a 2 pages discussion answering the following topics:

  1. Begin by reading the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s (AACN) position statement on nursing research (http://www.aacn.nche.edu/publications/position/nursing-research).
  2. Identify a potential problem specific to the role of Family Nurse Practitioner that you would like to investigate through this course.
  3. Search a minimum of three nursing research articles not older than 5 years that have addressed the problem you have identified.
  4. Briefly describe the problem you are interested in researching and why this is of interest to you.
  5. Briefly summarize the literature you reviewed. Focus your discussion on the “problem” and how the literature you identified provides evidence of the existence of the problem.
  6. Include in your discussion a potential innovation that you might consider as a solution to the problem identified.

Review the information in the Learning Resources. Conduct additional research on unionization in health care.

Unionization is a highly charged topic. No matter what your beliefs or thoughts are on the subject, one thing is clear—nurse managers have a significant responsibility to promote the goals of their

Unionization is a highly charged topic. No matter what your beliefs or thoughts are on the subject, one thing is clear—nurse managers have a significant responsibility to promote the goals of their organizations while appreciating the labor concerns that may prompt employees to join unions. Beyond that, it is helpful to reflect on the core values of nursing and consider the extent to which they align with unionization.

To prepare:

  • Review the information in the Learning Resources. Conduct additional research on unionization in health care.
  • Consider the professional basis of nursing and the presence of unions in health care. Does unionization conflict with a professional nursing orientation?
  • Reflect on the experiences you have had working in unionized settings, or consider what would be required of you in such a setting if you do not have that experience.
  • Consider how you would address transitioning from being a member of a collective bargaining unit to being a manager who cannot be a member of a collective bargaining unit. How you might prepare to make this sort of transition?

By Day 3

Post your position on whether unionization aligns with or conflicts with a professional nursing orientation and what this may mean for the role as a nurse manager. Share your experiences working in a unionized setting or describe what might be required of you when transitioning from one circumstance to another.

What makes nursing case management special? Is it appropriate for everyone? Give reasons.

1 and half pages due in 7 hours

On the basis of your reading, answer the following questions:

  • The conceptual frameworks applied to community-oriented nursing practice expand the scope of nursing care by addressing non-medical aspects of health. Those who are not familiar with healthcare perceive nurses as providers of hands-on care only. Suggest ways to change this perception.
  • What makes nursing case management special? Is it appropriate for everyone? Give reasons.

Populations can be defined by inclusion or exclusion criteria, using one or many of either type. Using factors in addition to medical tests, diagnoses, and so forth, prioritize the characteristics you think are important in defining a population for community health nursing.

Health care Community Services

Identify four organizations in your community that deliver primary health care. Based on the objective material that you can obtain, determine whom each organization serves; what services each provides; and where each organization gets its funding from. Also evaluate the relative value of each organization’s services to individuals and families in the community

Write 1-2 paragraphs for each question.

Prompts-Principles of teaching

Write 1-2 paragraphs for each question.

1. The diversity of both students and faculty poses important considerations for teaching and learning. Reflect on the characteristic differences in gender, race, and culture, as well as the differences among the diverse generations in today’s nursing education classroom. When considering your personal philosophy of teaching, discuss how you might use these characteristic differences and diverse backgrounds and experiences of today’s nursing students as a teaching tool to connect students to nursing content and increase their understanding. In other words, how might you incorporate the background and experiences of your students into your teaching methods to enhance the ability of all students in your classroom to think critically and problem solve patient-care issues?

2. Nursing faculty is responsible for creating an environment that is conducive to learning and accommodates the multiple learning styles and abilities of students. As a nurse educator, how might you design learning experiences for class and clinical environments to promote positive and effective learning for all students? Do you think students should use their preferred learning styles and perhaps risk becoming rigid and unable to learn in different ways (should a situation demand a different learning style)? Or should educators encourage students to be open to different methods of learning, moving them away from their comfort zones?

Chapter 9, “Emerging Roles for the DNP”

Intra- and Interdisciplinary Collaborative Practice

Intra- and Interdisciplinary Collaborative Practice

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) report The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health in this week’s Learning Resources indicates there are 3 million members of the nursing profession in the United States, composing the largest segment of health care workers. As the health care field continues to evolve, nurses with advanced degrees are likely to fulfill leadership roles and work collaboratively with other health care professionals to improve access to care and promote quality. The AACN and the IOM stress the importance of intra- and interprofessional collaboration.

In this week’s media presentation, “The Professional Role of the DNP Prepared Nurse,” Dr. Stanley, Dr. Stefan, and Dr. Beechinor discuss the value of intra- and interprofessional collaboration across the spectrum of health care delivery. Dr. Beechinor also speaks about the benefits of engaging in collaboration during a doctoral program, and how this can aid students as they prepare for new professional roles. The experts also discuss why collaboration is essential for nursing research.

To prepare:

  • With information from the Learning Resources in mind, consider the value of intra- and interprofessional collaborative practice in professional practice and as you engage in your doctoral studies. What opportunities do you see for engaging in intra- and interprofessional collaborative practice?

By Wednesday 6/14/17, post 550 words essay in APA format with 3 references from the list below, that include the level one headings as numbered below:

Assignment: Creating a Welcoming Workplace for the Older Worker

NURS 6221: MANAGING HUMAN RESOURCES – Assignment 10 (Grading Rubic Attached and Sample Format APA template attached)

Assignment: Creating a Welcoming Workplace for the Older Worker

The nursing workforce is aging rapidly. In fact, Baby Boomers constitute the largest group of nurses currently practicing. This aging workforce poses two significant ramifications for nurse managers. First, due to the volatility and uncertainty in the world and national economy, many Baby Boomers have shifted their retirement plans and are staying in the workforce. This is requiring creative responses on the part of employers. Conversely, as these highly experienced and knowledgeable nurses do begin to exit the active workforce, experts anticipate a “brain drain” that will affect all levels of health care environments.

In this week’s Assignment, you critically assess your current organization or one with which you are familiar to determine why older workers may stay in or leave their positions. In addition, you suggest strategies that could help to retain and further engage this specific population of nurses.

To prepare

Review the article, “From Veterans to Nexters: Managing the Multi-Generational Nursing Workforce.” Reflect upon the key ideas: the challenges and implications of managing a multi-generational workforce, common generational differences, interventions for increasing generational motivation, and strategies for retaining the older nurse.

Reflect on your current organization or one with which you are familiar and determine the demographic breakdown of employees based on age. Then, consider how this specific work environment might present difficulties for older workers and think about factors that might cause these employees to leave your setting.

Use this week’s Learning Resources, as well as your own scholarly research, to identify strategies that could engage and retain this population of nurses.

To complete

Submit a 3- to 5-page paper in which you do the following:

Identify the demographic breakdown of employees in the organization. If you are unable to access exact demographical data, provide your best estimate for each of the following age ranges: 20–30, 30–40, 40–50, 50–60, and 60–70, and 70+.

Describe at least two ways the work environment is conducive to older workers and at least two difficulties it might present. Support your response by citing authentic examples from the workplace and this week’s Learning Resources as applicable.

Propose at least four specific strategies you could implement to engage and retain older workers.

Minimum number of references required is 5.
