Introduction and AlignmentLest you be left with the impression, after the previous two exercises, that you are learning a skill set you will never use, you are challenged in this exercise to write about how you would respond if an unexpected outbreak of disease or other health condition were to unexpectedly occur in the kind of workplace where you serve or expect to serve after earning your master’s degree.  You are expected to apply the principles learned in the previous exercise, and to avoid errors of interpretation of information in the setting you are describing.Upon completion of this assignment, you should be able to:Avoid five of the most common methodologic errors and biases that would invalidate an epidemiologic study or investigation.Apply epidemiologic skills in your chosen area of specialization in the nursing profession.ResourcesTextbook: Macha, K., & McDonough, J. Providing Culturally Competent Nursing Care (graded;l;;p022uu gv kk)

This week you have your choice of three discussion topics! Select the one that most interests you and answer the corresponding questions completely.Remember to reference both the book or lesson, and an outside scholarly source.Option #1:You are the nurse assessing an Orthodox Jewish client with peptic ulcer. The client is strictly religious and refuses to eat the food provided at the health care facility.Describe how you would further assess and provide care for this client. What steps could you take to increase your cultural competence, if you were not familiar with this faith?Option #2:You are the nurse caring for a client with Crohn’s disease. The client believes he is being punished by God. The client is spiritually distressed and cannot come to terms with the illness. How would you respond to this client? What are some identified risk factors for spiritual distress, and recommended interventions?Option #3:Describe a time in your clinical nursing practice when you have cared for a client of cultural, religious, or spiritual practices different from your own. What were some of the challenges you faced caring for this client? What steps did you take (or could you have taken) to ensure the patient received culturally/spiritually competent care?

Controlled Substances

This week challenging debate…I want to take this opportunity to discuss our new granted privilege to prescribe controlled substance. There are five classes of substance considered under the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970 (Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970, 2019).The privilege for Nurse Practitioners(NPs) to prescribe controlled substance was legally approved in Florida, the last state to grant such a privilege for midlevel practitioners, in 2017( Kellangs & Maye, 2017).  Once licensed as Florida NP, you will need 2 hours of controlled substance prescription CEUs and to apply for the DEA license. The application cost $ 731 and it’s valid for three years. NPs are required to have a controlled substance agreement with the supervising physician.DEA website https://apps.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/webforms/jsp/regapps/common/newAppLogin.jspDo you think the ability to prescribe controlled substance benefits the Nurse Practitioners practice? Why or why not?In Florida all controlled substance prescribed must be reported to E-FORCSE Dispense Guide. By accessing E-FORCSE database you will avoid multiple healthcare providers re filling narcotics not due, or multiple narcotics to the same patient.ReferencesComprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970.
