Addressing a Nursing Shortage

HRM 4481 – Addressing a Nursing Shortage – Case Study

Registered nurses are in short supply in the United States—a situation that it is expected to worsen. Before the Covid-19 Pandemic, it was predicted that the demand for U.S. nursing services would exceed supply by nearly 30 percent in 2020.[i] Many registered nurses are approaching retirement age, and the nursing profession is facing difficulties attracting new entrants and retaining existing nurses. In addition, nursing schools have been unable to expand fast enough to supply enough additional nurses.[ii]

Your assignment:

1. Research the severity of the nursing shortage, in your area or in any city/town/state. (Please state where your area is located). My location is Columbus Georgia. Nursing Shortage Questions Assignment

2. Develop an action plan to strategically address the nursing shortage in the area that you choose.

3. What are your suggestions for improving the quantity and quality of available nurses over the next two decades?

You should use sources such as O*Net, the BLS, and state labor market sources to forecast the future supply of nurses in the area chosen. The action plan should address the availability of nursing education, as this is an important part of the nursing pipeline problem. The action plan should also address the supply of people interested in a nursing career, including both new entrants to the field of nursing, as well as possibly moving people from related occupations.

The amount of research and in-depth knowledge of the subject as well as the Action Plan itself will determine the grade on this assignment. In other words, you will get out of it what you put into it. Make sure that you reference any material that is copied and attach a Reference Page. There is not a designated number of pages necessary for this assignment, you need to focus on Quality of work not Quantity of pages.
