Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by a high level of glucose in the blood. There are four types of diabetes –diabetes type I, diabetes type II, gestational diabetes, and juvenile diabetes (Xiang et al., 2018). The disorder’s etiology is the significant difference between diabetes type I and type II. Type I diabetes is an autoimmune disorder where the insulin-producing cells in the islet of Langerhans –in the pancreas are attacked by the immune cell. As a result, there is little or no insulin in the blood.

On the other hand, diabetes type II results from too much sugar intake. In simple terms, there is body resistance to insulin. There are normal or elevated levels of insulin in this case.
