what could have been done to prevent or address the ineffective communication.

From moment to moment, a nurse leader’s day involves communication—with patients, families, colleagues, supervisors, and so on.

Think of a particular day you spent working in a health care environment, and consider three or four distinct points in time. For each point of time, consider the following: With whom did you interact? Which forms of communication did you use? What issues were communicated about—did they seem to be light-hearted or sensitive? Straightforward or complicated? How would you describe the pace of the interactions and your work?

As you consider these questions, it becomes clear that communication can be quite complex, with many layers of meaning that shape the experience for everyone involved. How could this awareness help you to understand instances of ineffective communication when they arise?

To prepare:

  • Review the information in Chapter 19 of the course text, as well as the assigned articles.
  • Reflect on an incident involving ineffective communication within your organization or another health care setting. Consider this incident through the lens of the communication process outlined in Figure 19.1 of the course text (p. 439).
  • What barriers contributed to this incident? What other challenges may have influenced this situation?
  • Using the information presented in the other Learning Resources, consider what could have been done to prevent or address the ineffective communication. Why do you think the use of these strategies would have resulted in better outcome(s)?

On the Week 7 Discussion Board, post on or before Day 3 a summary of an incident involving ineffective communication. Describe communication barriers and other challenges that contributed to the incident. Propose one or more strategies that could have been employed to promote a better outcome. Be sure to refer to elements of the communication process.

How is quality measured in long-term care?

Regulations in Long-Term Care

There are many federal and state regulations when it comes to long-term care. Using the South University Online Library and the Internet, research any four specific regulations related to long-term care and summarize them.

Based on the regulations you identified, respond to the following questions:

  • What are the benefits and shortcomings of your identified regulations? Which of these shortcomings have an effect on the quality and the cost of health care services? How?
  • Do you believe there is a link between regulations and better care? Why or why not?
  • Why do you think long-term care services are subjected to so much external control by government agencies? Provide a rationale for your responses.
  • How is quality measured in long-term care? Is there only one, or are there several approaches to measure quality? What are they? Who should be given the responsibility to measure quality?

Discuss how the disease outbreak might have been avoided or mitigated.

Let me know if you can help and how much. Need it by tomorrow noon west coast time.

FYI –

I notice my Return score is at 46% – Last year one tutor tried to give me substandard work.  It appeared English was not her first language I gave her a couple of chances to fix, but it was evident this was not going to work. I am not sure why it is a mark against me.

Let me know how much if you can do this for me.

Just needs to be a page or two. Citation and References APA

I have a discussion post due

  • Identify the emerging or reemerging infectious disease you selected.
  • Discuss the investigative process used to identify the outbreak, and describe its effect using descriptive epidemiology (person, place, and time).
  • Apply the epidemiologic triangle and vector theory to your selected outbreak.
  • Evaluate how prior health care interventions, or lack thereof, created the conditions that allowed this infectious disease to emerge.
  • Discuss how the disease outbreak might have been avoided or mitigated. Include agencies, organizations, and resources that could have supported these efforts. If appropriate, consider ongoing efforts to control the outbreak

How does technology improve the type and quality of care received by long-term care consumers?

Role of Technology in Long-Term Care

Using the South University Online Library and the Internet, find three articles describing the role technology will play in addressing the challenges ahead in long-term care. Summarize your findings and based on your learning, respond to the following questions:

  • Which challenges in long-term care system remain unmet? Why?
  • What changes can we expect to occur with the influx of baby boomers entering into the long-term care system?
  • Why do you think technology is important to long-term care? Support your answer with relevant examples.
  • What are the pros and cons of the implementation of technology in long-term care? Consider both providers and consumers while describing.
  • How does technology improve the type and quality of care received by long-term care consumers?
  • How important is the commitment by top management for the use of information technology in long-term care to be successful? Why?
  • How can the challenges be proactively addressed as opposed to being reactive?

Legal and Ethical Issues: Case Study

Cathy Smith, an eighty-eight-year-old woman, was admitted to the emergency room from the nursing facility with acute respiratory distress. Although Smith does not have a living will, her daughter Rose, a health care professional, has the power of attorney (POA) to make her mother’s health decisions.

Smith suffers from end-stage Alzheimer’s disease and recently experienced congestive heart failure. Her condition is alarming. The doctors want to place her on life-support equipment, including a ventilator. Smith’s son, Andrew, agrees with the doctor’s decision. However, Rose states her mother would never want to be placed on life-support machines to prolong her life.

Analyze the scenario and answer the following questions:

  • What are the autonomy-beneficial conflicts between Rose and Andrew related to placing their mother on life support in this case? Who has the right to make the decision on behalf of the client? Why?
  • What are the ethical issues related to the competency and decision-making capacity of the client while making the health care decisions? Do these issues impact the services offered in long-term care? How?
  • What are some of the critical issues related to informed consent? Who has the right to assume this responsibility? Why?

How have various legislations affected low-income and minority women?

Barriers to Healthcare for Women and Minorities

Poverty and lack of education are two big barriers to healthcare for women and minorities. Low levels of education are associated with low life expectancies and high mortality rates. People living in poverty often lack education about when, why, and where to access healthcare. There have been various legislative activities in the US to improve public health.

On the basis of your understanding of the access to healthcare facilities and impacts of barriers to healthcare access, answer the following questions:

  • Explain at least three public health campaigns targeting access to healthcare for women and/or minorities. Describe at least two aspects of their advertising strategies that have addressed income and education.
  • Abortion has been the subject of numerous legislative activities in the United States. How have various legislations affected low-income and minority women?
  • Describe the legal battle over birth control devices in the United States. Include how access to healthcare has been affected by the legal decisions.
  • Describe the legal barriers to healthcare access for low-income immigrant minorities.
  • Review the articles, “Ethnic and gender disparities in needed adolescent mental health care”, and “Overlooked and underserved: Improving the health of men of color”. Explain what it means to be “overlooked” by the healthcare system.
  • Discuss at least two examples that illustrate why minorities are often overlooked in the healthcare system. Do you agree or disagree with these reasons, why or why not?
  • Despite the fact that school-based psychological counseling is available to all students, Thomas et al., report that ethnic disparities in mental healthcare access and utilization still persist. Explain why this disparity exists. What can be done to decrease mental health access and utilization barriers for low-income and minority students?
  • What strategies does former U.S. Surgeon General, David Satcher, M.D., discuss that will decrease the potential for minorities to be overlooked by the healthcare system?
  • at the end  Participate in the discussion by asking two or more questions, providing a statement of clarification, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging an aspect of the discussion, or indicating a relationship between two or more lines of reasoning in the discussion

Describe the economic foundation of the U.S. healthcare delivery system and the role of economics in healthcare.

Portfolio Project Option #1: U.S. Healthcare Systems

The U.S. healthcare system is influenced by a shifting political climate, constant economic development, rapidly evolving technological innovation, and diffusion of social values, demanding workforce issues, and demographics trends. Also, the U.S. system differs from other countries’ systems on many dimensions, such as lack of a central governing agency, limited coordination, high costs but only average health outcomes, imperfect market conditions, the dominant private sector market, multiple organizational forms and players, and the conflict between market goals and social justice. The concern over the economic future of healthcare systems revolves around three broad issues: cost, quality, and access. Gaps in coverage, combined with the upward trends in medical care spending over the past several decades, add to the commonly held belief that the U.S. healthcare systems are in crisis.

As a final project for HCM375, prepare and submit a scholarly paper that discusses the following:

1. Describe the economic foundation of the U.S. healthcare delivery system and the role of economics in healthcare.

2. Compare and contrast the use of various economic models to explain the role of economics in healthcare and how the concept of the market equilibrium works in healthcare.

3. Assess the role of production of health and demand and supply for medical care and health insurance, and relationship of income and the demand for healthcare.

4. Compare the economic benefits and challenges of individual versus population health.

5. Assess the international comparisons of health among the United States and other developed countries (cost, quality, access to care, and any other relevant measures).

The paper is due at the end of week 8 and must be:

  • CSU-Global APA format
  • Double-spaced
  • A minimum of eight pages in length (not including cover and reference pages).

Make sure you include headings, per APA guidelines. Include a minimum of 10 current and credible sources. Five of the sources must come from peer-reviewed journals. Sources should be adequately chosen to provide substance and perspectives on the issue.

Develop statements to describe the culture and work of the organization that fit the philosophy you have developed.

Each student must submit a Final Project for this course. This Final Project will count for 50% of your grade in this course.
