Let’s discuss the Ten AMIA working groups together with the IMIA work group findings on Organizational and Social Issues for project failures and how to lessen those risks.  Specifically, let’s discuss communication, workflow, and quality; the complexity of IT undertakings; the need to integrate all aspects of projects, work environments, and regulatory and policy requirements; and the difficulty of getting all the parts and participants in harmony.

How do you address what “success” and “failure” mean, what contributes to making successful or unsuccessful systems, how to use failure as an enhanced learning opportunity for continued improvement, how system successes or failures should be studied, and what AMIA should do to enhance opportunities for successes?

What are the five main core development areas for Health IT?

Healthcare Information Technology and Standards

The ability to exchange and use health information electronically is important in order to improve healthcare quality and safety. Interoperability is critical to future exchange of health data to reduce medical errors, improve quality, and contribute to medical research. In order for this to happen, it is necessary to come to agreement on a variety of data standards. It is also critical that health data is secure from all types of threats and technological vulnerabilities.

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research about healthcare IT and their standards. Based on your research and understanding, respond to the following:

· What are the five main core development areas for Health IT?

· What do we mean by data standards? Give five examples of current data standards that are being used. What is their purpose?

· What is needed to achieve interoperability between all providers? What types of network standards are necessary in addition to data standards?

· What has been the role of Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health IT in data standards and interoperability? What is the Nationwide Health Information Network?

· How do the standards in the EHR systems and interoperability networks impact the working environment of healthcare professionals?

· What are the ways health organizations will need to protect health data from threats (man-made and natural disaster) and technological vulnerabilities?

Explain the ethical, legal, and economic factors that impact the health and wellness of the population

Wellness Program Proposal

Health care initiatives focus on changing demographics and emerging health problems. Health care professionals need to develop skills in conducting gap analyses within their own communities, to design effective health education and wellness programs to address those gaps, and to remain mindful that effective care depends on the ability to build trust within the community being served.

For this assignment, you will develop a proposal for a wellness program that will help bridge the gaps in health care service delivery for the population you identified in your Windshield Survey assignment.

Use the Capella library and the Internet to find scholarly and professional resources that will help you design a wellness program for the health concern of your population. Find at least four resources to use in this assignment.

Requirements

Building on your Windshield Survey and Organizational Evaluation assignments, complete the following:

  • Design an evidence-based wellness program to address the primary health concern of the population that integrates:
    • Cultural considerations: Will you need to consult with someone from the population on how to approach the delivery of your program?
    • CAM, traditional medicine, holistic health, and spirituality considerations
    • Linguistic considerations: Will you need interpreters or translators for either written or oral presentations?
    • Educational considerations: What will be the best way to educate the population?
  • Describe how you will market or advertise the wellness program.
    • What are the benefits the program offers the population?
    • Will you need incentives to ensure participation and completion of the program?
  • Explain the ethical, legal, and economic factors that impact the health and wellness of the population. For example:
    • The ethical considerations (such as justice, non-malfeasance, and duty) that can affect preventative care and health promotion.
    • Local laws, federal laws, and the Affordable Health Care Act that can affect preventative care and health promotion.
    • The potential economic impact of clinical prevention and health promotion related to health disparities of your population.

The format for this assignment should be a professional proposal. If possible, ask about the format used for proposals in your organization and follow that. Follow current APA style for your in-text citations and references.

Additional Requirements

  • Length of paper: 5–7 double-spaced pages, not including a title page and reference page.
  • References: At least four current scholarly or professional resources.
  • Formatting: APA format for in-text citations and references.
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt.

What other basic rights of an individual may be compromised in times of an emergency?

Rights and Duties during Emergencies

Consider the following scenarios related to interoperability and its impact on emergency preparedness. Utilize your course textbook and assigned readings as well as search the South University Online Library or the Internet to answer the questions that follow each scenario.

Scenario 1

One of the primary goals of the public health system is to protect the general public. The citizens of the United States enjoy specific freedom and basic rights guaranteed by the Constitution. However, in an emergency situation, it is possible that specific rights such as the right to confidentiality of an individual may be compromised in an effort to protect the public.

Research the South University Online Library or the Internet for an article involving quarantining an individual. Based on your research, answer the following questions regarding the above scenario:

· What occurred to warrant the quarantine? Was this justified?

· Does the need to protect the public outweigh an individual’s right to confidentiality? Why or why not?

· What other basic rights of an individual may be compromised in times of an emergency?

Scenario 2

A successful response to an emergency situation often involves collaboration with other agencies in the community and the government. Imagine you are the director of the local health department. You have just received a call about a suspected outbreak of Ebola hemorrhagic fever in the community.

On the basis of your understanding of the topic of “collaboration with agencies and the government” and the above scenario, answer the following questions:

· How would you put your bioterrorism preparedness plan into action? Which agencies will be involved in your plan and why?

· Would the agencies involved be different in case there was a natural disaster such as an earthquake? Why or why not?

Consider strategies for educating patients and families on the treatment and management of the hematologic or metabolic disorder.

Diagnosis and Management of Hematologic and Metabolic Disorders

Case Study 2:

Jimmy is a 3-year-old “picky” eater according to his mother. He refuses to eat anything but waffles for breakfast and macaroni and cheese or chicken nuggets for lunch and dinner. He will eat apples and bananas but refuses all vegetables except corn. After a normal physical examination, you obtained blood testing that revealed the hemoglobin is 11.4 mg/dl and his hematocrit is 30% (both obtained by venipuncture). The CBC revealed microcytic hypochromic RBCs.

To prepare:

•Review “Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders” and “Hematologic Disorders” in the Burns et al. text

•Review and  Analyze the patient information.

•Consider a differential diagnosis for the patient in the case study you selected. Think about the most likely diagnosis for the patient.

•Think about a treatment and management plan for the patient. Be sure to consider appropriate dosages for any recommended pharmacologic and/or non-pharmacologic treatments.

•Consider strategies for educating patients and families on the treatment and management of the hematologic or metabolic disorder.

TO COMPLETE

POST   1 TO 2 PAGES DISCUSSION PAPER ON :

1.An explanation of the differential diagnosis for the patient in the case study you selected.

2. Explain which is the most likely diagnosis for the patient and why.

3. Include an explanation of unique characteristics of the disorder you identified as the primary diagnosis.

4. Then, explain a treatment and management plan for the patient, including appropriate dosages for any recommended treatments.

5. Finally, explain strategies for educating patients and families on the treatment and management of the hematologic or metabolic disorder.
