Evaluating Culture from the Nursing Perspective Essay

Evaluating Culture from the Nursing Perspective Essay

Question One

Poland had the highest smoking population globally, which meant immediate action was required to protect people from developing cancer. The main change came from the legislation approved by the Polish parliament. In November 1995, the “Law for the Protection of Public Health Against the Effects of Tobacco Use” was passed. This was the starting point for the changes that saw the rate of smoking decrease in Poland. The law banned smoking and the selling of cigarettes in places such as healthcare centers, enclosed work areas, and schools. The sale of tobacco was prohibited to individuals under the age of 18, as Kinder (2004). The production, as well as selling of smokeless tobacco, was also banned. Electronic media advertising was restricted, including advertising on other media platforms. Tobacco manufacturers were obligatory to have a health cautionary printed on cigarette packs. The government also provided free smoking dependence treatment. This legislation went ahead to serve as a model for other nations and has continued to be adapted and implemented in other areas because of its favorable nature. Additionally, change was instituted by the increase in tax. In 1999, a total ban on tobacco product advertising was implemented.

Question Two

Social and political factors added to cigarette smoking being a culture in Poland. According to Kinder (2004), the state-controlled the lucrative tobacco industry, and at the time, this industry was the leading source of revenue for the government. To ensure its lucrative business continued and revenue increased, the government concealed information concerning the negative effects of smoking cigarettes. This meant that a majority of the smokers in Poland did not have information concerning the harmful effects associated with tobacco smoking, which increased its usage. Any tobacco legislation introduced back then was instantly rejected by the government because it was deemed a menace to the government’s source of revenue.  Evaluating Culture from the Nursing Perspective Essay

Question Three

Cultural bias can be surpassed by communication and creating a positive association with individuals from other cultures. It is always vital to be mindful of cultural bias and avoid making any assumptions about any given culture without sufficient knowledge (Paul-Emile et al., 2020). Yes, sometimes I find it difficult dealing with some groups instead of others because of their cultural beliefs. People use cultural information to eliminate stereotypes and biases they might have developed in the past, helping them develop positive relationships. Having sufficient knowledge about people from different cultures does not lead to stereotyping, but instead reduces these stereotypes because of clarity from learning cultural information. Cultural knowledge changes an individual’s preparation and interface with others substantially. Notably, a person will know what to do and what to avoid when dealing with a person from a different culture, which subsequently smoothens their interactions.

Evaluation of PPD Groups Essay

Evaluation of PPD Groups Essay

Introduction

Personal and professional development (PPD) groups are significant forums through which counselor training is enhanced and involves the development of self-awareness among counselors’ trainees. The use of PPD groups has been identified as a very critical process which enhances self-exploration, self-awareness, and congruency and ultimately brings about great counselors. Through many studies and research work, the PPD groups have been selected as one of the important and which is able to train counselors with skills and enhance the healthy working environment with others. Nonetheless, there has been some issues and opponents of the process who felt that the groups could elicit fear and discomfort to some members which would be detrimental in bringing about negative emotions and as well affect the learning of the individuals. The paper will therefore critically evaluate the importance and challenges of PPD in training of counselors.

The PPD groups are an essential part of counseling and create an exclusive avenue through where the trainees can meet and exchange ideas. The groups are mainly interlinked to the extent that they bring about many benefits to the learners such as giving them counseling skills and developing self-awareness skills. Through the PPD groups, the learners are able to accept themselves in the presence of others and improve the way they make a judgment about others. This makes them complete beings that can coexist with others and make sound decisions concerning health issues and psychological issues. The ideal nature of PPD groups is participation where the trainees can react to different ideas, feelings, and thoughts. This nature of participation helps counselors in identifying their vulnerabilities such that they are able to become aware of themselves (Moller, 2013).  Evaluation of PPD Groups Essay

In addition, the PPD groups are essential in giving the learners experience of understanding and coping with clients’ challenges such that they can see things in the same way with clients. The experience of getting opinions about specific issues or views from the group members gives the trainees significant expertise in dealing with more challenging cases later. Moreover, the PPD groups are able to provide the learners with exceptional abilities in listening, reflecting and also in learning about relationships with others. There are also many models of learning through PPD groups such as self-learning, learning about the clients and then the most vital learning about the counseling process. The trainees are all through aiming at gaining the most significant learning experiences and good practice to enable them to serve their clients better (Lennie, 2007).

In most cases, the use of PPD is a theorized way through which trainees’ again personal awareness, relationship skills, and ability to address and identify their challenges. To have maximum gains from the group, the trainees should have genuine openness and explorative ambitions. Anxiety in the groups should be minimized through the use of normalization and idealization (Moller, 2013). This can only be achieved through the experience of the tutors and facilitators. For instance, the tutors should be able to intervene to bring the group’s purpose on course tactically. The tutors should also prepare and train the trainees on the techniques to use in handling tough times. For instance, some trainees feel that they may face challenges in times of conflict and anxiety in groups. The training should, therefore, be very strategic to prepare them for any event and uncertainties (Moller, 2013).

Through the PPD groups, the trainees will always feel close to people who care and respect their opinions. This makes people more confident and encourages them to think broadly to challenge the group into action. The individual feelings are also very well reflected through the group, and this can be an excellent avenue to identify one’s attitude and changes. However, in many instances, the group can elicit diverse opinions and feelings among the trainees. For example, some may feel not comfortable in dealing with and sharing with others due to fear of getting exposed. Thus, confidentiality is an issue for every group work, and this makes most of the members to feel not ready to share their information and ends up not realizing their self-awareness. For example, I am from Poland, and it was very challenging for me to join my colleagues and share my feelings and ideas with them. This is because I feel like a stranger and never trusted them at first. However, after staying together and learning about each and every member and knowing them all today, I am very free and confident in the group. This is because, I can freely share my feelings without fear as I know that they are all very close and determined to help and come up with solutions to every issue we raise (Moller, 2013). Evaluation of PPD Groups Essay

The PPD groups are also very challenging, and some of the respondents in the study were able to point out significant issues. For instance, some trainees claimed that they felt unsafe in these groups and more when it comes to disclosing of one’s information. This is an indication that the groups may trigger or harm individual feelings which may be as a result of members not adhering to confidential expectations (Ismail, 2015). The trainees who raised issues concerning the PPD groups felt that their problems might spill over which may bring adverse effects to their practice. It is this fear of the unknown that forced many members of the groups to see the process as harmful, bad and one that could not be depended upon. In some other cases, there were cases of the uncertainty of the trainees to the PPD groups. Some were not able to identify the reasons for them to participate (Moller, 2013). The groups may, therefore, be a very crucial point of enhancing trainees’ skills and self-awareness but if not well structured and explained to the learners it can elicit negative feelings. This is because some do not see its importance at all due to fear of their confidentiality and others are entirely uncertain about what to expect from participating in the group (Payne, 2010).

Conclusion

The PPD groups are therefore an essential part of enhancing the counseling trainees’ skills and self-awareness experience. It is an avenue where the learners can interact and share experiences and feelings and get help from within the group’s members. The forums are very positive, and in many times they have the energy and abilities to resolve any issues affecting the clients. However, there are many challenges of confidentiality surrounding the PPD groups and the feelings of distrust and barriers of communication as a result of members fearing each other.  Evaluation of PPD Groups Essay

Organizational Policies And Practices To Support Healthcare Issues

Organizational Policies And Practices To Support Healthcare Issues

Quite often, nurse leaders are faced with ethical dilemmas, such as those associated with choices between competing needs and limited resources. Resources are finite, and competition for those resources occurs daily in all organizations.

For example, the use of 12-hour shifts has been a strategy to retain nurses. However, evidence suggests that as nurses work more hours in a shift, they commit more errors. How do effective leaders find a balance between the needs of the organization and the needs of ensuring quality, effective, and safe patient care? Event Analysis on COVID 19 Essay

Event Analysis on COVID 19 Essay

Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a substantial negative impact on the entire globe. The unexpected calamity has impacted communities socially, economically, and politically. The disease has claimed the lives of 3.89 million people and paralyzed even essential services in many parts of the world. The announcement by World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros that infections and deaths from the virus will go on for a long time attracts the need for adaptation. According to the director, people will have to develop a new norm that ensures a healthier, safer, and better-prepared lifestyle. This will only be possible by looking back and identifying the mistakes made and leading to the virus’s massive spread.

China, the origin of the novel coronavirus, is seen as one of the countries that managed to control the spread of the disease by taking the necessary steps even before the first patient’s death. This reduced casualties of the virus in the country and made it easier for many people and businesses to respond fully to their normal businesses within a short period. China’s response to the virus also reduced the second and third wave severity compared to other nations such as India, Italy, and The United States. First, on December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities took the initiative to inform the World Health Organization about a strange pneumonia-like virus that had already infected a total of 41 people (World Health Organization., 2020). The Chinese authorities acted this way because they estimated that the virus had begun strewing as early as late November. Hence, there was a possibility that there were more infected people in public.

On January 1, 2020, the Chinese authorities locked down the Huanan Seafood Wholesale market in Wuhan, where the virus is said to have originated and transmitted to humans (Secon, 2020). The authorities immediately took action after any discovery relating to the virulence or the spread of the virus. For instance, they canceled public transportation, ensured people wore masks, and maintained a social distance after discovering that it spread from one person to another through contact with body fluids from an infected person, especially saliva and mucus. These measures were implemented even before the Chinese authorities recorded their first death from the virus on January 11, 2020. Event Analysis on COVID 19 Essay The Chinese authorities then started establishing massive temporary hospitals that would admit and take care of any infected persons (Secon, 2020). These hospitals remained full due to mass testing taking place and ensuring that every infected individual was quarantined and given all the needed care to beat the virus. On January 23, 2020, Chinese authorities placed 11 million cities of Wuhan under lockdown. In the following days, the authorities put the entire province of Wuhan under locked which had at least 60 million people. This became the most significant number of people to be ever placed under quarantine in history.  These measures first seemed futile, but after a while, they bore fruit, and as the virus spread to other parts of the world and infecting millions, China was healing.

On January 13, 2020, the first covid-19 case outer China was recorded in Thailand, which demonstrated that governments needed to take action before the virus reached its borders. By now, the virus had spread in many parts of China and nations such as the United States. On January 31, the federal government banned people’s entry, including its citizens in China, in the past two weeks (Secon, 2020). Many countries established such measures and allowed people who did not show signs and symptoms of the disease, such as fever, into their countries. Some countries created quarantine centers in every port of entry where all who were entering the country could be quarantined and released after they were confirmed negative. However, other countries, especially African countries and some European countries, were not serious about ensuring that everybody who entered their borders was free of the virus.

Politics and propaganda played a significant role in ignorance of safety measures that would completely curb the virus’s spread. For instance, some spread rumors that the virus was “Chinese hence could not infect other people from different ethnicities or races. This greatly contributed to ignorance of safety measures as many believed that the disease could not infect black people. Others believed that the disease could only infect people in extremely cold environments or during winter. Though the virus was more severe during the cold season, it could also infect people during the hot season or summer (Kantis, Kiernan, & Bardi, 2021). The most serious myth was that the novel coronavirus was a “Chinese virus” created as a bioweapon targeted to the United States. This propaganda was propelled even by former President Donald Trump that made many Americans disregard safety measures such as wearing masks and constant washing of hands. The propaganda also increased racism and discrimination against Chinese and Asian descent, which affected social relations in the country. Countries whose leaders ignored advice from professionals and steps such as china had undertaken severely hit by the disease. For instance, Brazil, where the variants of the virus are still a significant problem.

However, many leaders in the United States were determined to bring the virus under control before it was too late. From February 29 to March 19, almost all States avowed a status of emergency. Other nations in Europe, such as Italy, placed the entire country under total lockdown. On March 11, the WHO professed the virus a pandemic, a warning sign for heightened measures to curb the disease (World Health Organization., 2020). Nevertheless, the virus continued to ravage the world as scientists argued that it would take longer to develop a drug or vaccine against the virus. Event Analysis on COVID 19 Essay

Nevertheless, various companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Oxford announce a breakthrough in the production of vaccines. The firms announce clinical trials as early as September 2020 as governments show commitments to purchase and vaccinate as many citizens as possible (Kantis, Kiernan, & Bardi, 2021). Russia’s Sputnik vaccine become the first success on September 4 after generating a strong immune response during a trial. Russia’s discovery pushes other firms to improve on their vaccines as the country signs deal with some nations to procure many doses of the vaccine. However, some nations, including the United States, decline to use Russia’s Sputnik vaccine and prefer the use of Moderna’s and Johnson and Johnson’s vaccines.

Conclusion

In conclusion, a thorough event analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic indicates that the virus is one of the most severe calamities ever to hit the entire globe. However, the virus’s impact could be controlled if nations worked together and prevented the spread of “infodemic.” Unfortunately, the spread, deaths, and social and economic collapse of many nations. These mistakes should be addressed as many nations continue to vaccinate their citizens since the virus continues to be a significant problem despite the vaccination

Nurse Leader And Nurse Educator

Nurse Leader And Nurse Educator

In 2004, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) and accrediting agencies sought to develop uniform standardization of education, accreditation, licensure, and certification across the advanced practice arena. The Consensus Model for APRN Regulation, Licensure, Accreditation, Certification and Education separated the APRNs into four distinct roles: certified nurse practitioners (CNPs), clinical nurse specialists (CNSs), certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), and certified nurse midwives (CNMs), and in at least one of six population foci: family/individual across the lifespan, adult-gerontology, neonatal, pediatrics, women’s health/gender-related, or psychiatric/mental health (Consensus Model). However, the nurse leader and the nurse educator are missing from the four identified roles. Some experts believe that the nurse leader and the nurse educator roles are advanced practice nurse role while others do not.

Health Care Involvement Essay

Health Care Involvement Essay

Climate change is expected to affect human wellbeing by exposing them to conditions supported by the greenhouse effect caused by air pollution. Air pollution is related to numerous wellbeing issues, such as lessened lung function, which is the primary cause of increased health care issues. “The health effects of these disruptions include increased respiratory and cardiovascular disease, injuries and premature deaths related to extreme weather events, changes in the prevalence and geographical distribution of food- and water-borne illnesses and other infectious diseases, and threats to mental health” (“Climate Effects on Health | CDC,” 2021). Healthcare providers are expected to be ethical and compassionate in dealing with patients who suffer from ailments related to climate. The conditions that health care practitioners have to deal with may range from harmless allergies to life-threatening respiratory diseases resulting from air pollution. The best way medical practitioners can help people is by finding means to help people live with air pollution’s adverse conditions before the crisis is resolved.

Air pollution is a dynamic subject that can affect humans in many different ways depending on how it presents itself. For example, variables that influence ozone arrangement incorporate warmth, concentrations of antecedent chemicals, and methane emanations. This creates propagates conditions that are heat-related which increase the visits to hospitals in areas that are worse hit by climate change. Additionally, particulate matter concentrations are influenced by rapidly spreading waste gas emanations; this explains why health care has more air pollution cases due to the concentration created, by being in the place of origin of the pollution, such as a factory. Since it is impossible to move the entire population from such areas, healthcare practitioners face an ethical dilemma to raise the alarm on the health effects associated with the corporation’s business. “This cross-cutting work takes many forms, such as working with physicians to develop education initiatives, tapping community organizations and schools to access and support at-risk populations, working with local hospitals to monitor and track health trends, and engaging media outlets to report on health risks and spread knowledge of available resources” (“How Climate Affects Community Health,” 2020). By expanding these diverse components, climate change is anticipated to lead to increased ozone concentrations and particulate matter in a few locations. This means the health care has to ensure they can handle an increased number of patients over time unless the situation is intervened. Increments in worldwide temperatures may cause related increments in untimely deaths related to compounded ozone and molecule contamination. Health Care Involvement Essay

Dissemination of evidence-based practice findings can be evaluated based on different settings, mainly where the practice will be applied.  The work of evidence-based practice (EBP) is a relentless process that requires practitioners to continuously provide evidence in support of their decision-making process and policy/practice changes. Healthcare workers may use the EBP model to initiate and implement policy changes which will improve patient care. During the process, practitioners must present their appeals to the lawmakers providing evidence to why should the changes happen. There are several ways of disseminating the evidence. Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt (2018) define dissemination as “the process of distributing or circulating information widely” (p. 752).

Two dissemination strategies that I would be most inclined to use

The best dissemination strategies that I would consider include a unit-level presentation and local dissemination (Harvey & Kitson, 2015). Unit-level dissemination is only successful, especially in ensuring where the issue that has been considered help improving the underlying problem within the unit. Different units with a given setting can have a varied assessment of the operational environment. This means there is a need to take into consideration the context under which the evidence-based practice. Therefore, ensuring that the engagement is strategic help ensure that based on the results, the intervention that is put in place is unit-based (Brownson et al., 2018). Organizations strive to implement essential aspects of improving their performance. However, evidence-based practice eliminated the uncertainty risk, which is crucial in attaining better outcomes.

Local dissemination entails significant players at the local level, which is a better aspect that helps provide a strong emphasis on institutional development (Hall & Roussel, 2016).  However, it is essential to ensure that dissemination of outcomes is done in an environment where there exist resources and technical ability to attain better results. Skills and knowledge among the population are likely to be a challenge in successfully implementing the developed practice. There is a need to manage the needs of existing stakeholders, which is essential and help in organizational planning as well as service delivery. The implementation of evidence-based practice should focus on creating a profoundly transformed environment where it is easier to implement positive change. Therefore, training is crucial in empowering stakeholders on how to implement evidence-based practice (Brownson et al., 2018).

Least Inclined Dissemination Strategies to be used

The least inclined dissemination strategies to be used in communicating EBP are poster presentations and podium presentations. The poster presentations may not give out enough information, and the presentation may not look engaging and exciting, thereby losing the aim of the presentation. The podium presentation, on the other hand, may encounter poor turnout of participants. There could be poor publicity of the presentation leading to poor attendance.

Barriers to be Encountered and Overcoming These Barriers

The barrier that could be encountered from the unit level presentation is the lack of interest from staff. An example is a resistance from staff when a change is to be implemented that they do not like or want. One way in overcoming this barrier is by getting staff involved in the presentation. For instance, making a member of staff one of the speakers at the presentation. In that way, they will be very interested in their presentation. The barrier that could be encountered in making use of peer-reviewed journals is the lack of access to the journals. An example are journals that mandates a subscription fee, which often puts off many readers. One way in overcoming this barrier is by giving such journals free access to online readers.

Sex Work Criminalization Essay

Introduction

The article authored by Ine Vanwesenbeeck titled Sex Work Criminalization Is Barking Up the Wrong Tree and published in June 2017 is one of the most relevant sources to the research project on the need for the US to decriminalize prostitution. The article was initially published on the Archives of sexual behavior, and it is accessible from online databases such as the National Center for Biotechnology Information and Springer (Vanwesenbeeck, 2017). The publication of the article was sponsored by Rutgers, Expert Centre on Sexuality. In this regard, this paper contains an evaluation of the article’s credibility and usefulness to determine its value to the research project.

Analysis

The first reason for selecting the article by Vanwesenbeeck is its high level of credibility. Reliability and authenticity are among the key factors that influence the credibility of a source. When a source is credible, it can be trusted by the readers or the audiences (Radom & Gammons, 2014). Reliability and authenticity are influenced by the credentials of the author and affiliations.
