Describe the method and procedures used for investigating the imagery skills

Assignment 2: Journal Article Review

The purpose of this assignment is for you to become more familiar with the current empirical literature in applied sport psychology related to a course topic of your choice.

Search the Argosy University’s online library databases, such as PsychINFO (EBSCO), and select an empirically based journal article on the advanced psychological skill of imagery.

Note: Since literature reviews, theoretical discussions, or position papers are not research investigations on imagery skills, they are not appropriate for this assignment.

An appropriate journal article is one that is a research study in imagery skills.

Therefore, prior to completing the assignment, you are encouraged to submit for your facilitator’s approval the reference of the journal article you are considering for your review.

You can submit the reference via e-mail or you can attempt to have a live meeting (via phone or chat) with your facilitator.

However, please make prior arrangements with your facilitator for all live meetings.

Review the journal article, particularly the purpose, methods, results, and discussion sections of the article.

Provide a 1–3-page summary of your review, addressing the following questions:In your opinion, what are the characteristics found to be generally associated with imagery?

How well are these characteristics addressed in the journal article you reviewed?

Describe the method and procedures used for investigating the imagery skills mentioned in the journal article.

How effective is this method in understanding the psychology of performance? Support your opinion with references and examples from the journal article.Do you agree with the results put forth in the article? Why or why not?Follow APA guidelines for writing and citing sources.

Present the review in Microsoft Word document format. Name the file M3_A2_LastName_JournalArticleReview.doc. Submit it by the due date assigned to the Submissions Area.

All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

Week 2 – Discussion

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

Initial Assessment

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read Chapters 2, 6, and 7 in DSM-5 Made Easy: The Clinician’s Guide to Diagnosis. Additionally, please watch the video Beer Is Cheaper than Therapy: Fort Hood’s PTSD Problem . (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

For this discussion, the patient for whom you wrote your transcript in the Week One Initial Call discussion has come to your office for a 15-minute initial assessment. As part of the intake process, you have asked the patient to fill out a biographical form that contains the same information included in the case study. Based on this information, propose three questions you would ask the patient to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Provide a transcript of this brief initial session including your three questions and the answers you would expect the prospective patient to give. Beneath the transcript, provide a rationale for each of the three questions you proposed. Include the case study title you chose for your Week One Initial Call discussion post.

Guided Response: Review several of your colleagues’ posts, and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion.

Examine your colleague’s transcript, and write an evaluation of the prospective patient’s apparent symptoms and presenting problem(s) within the context of a theoretical orientation. Theoretical orientations are based on the personality theories you learned about in PSY615, and are referred to as “approaches” in Abnormal and Clinical Psychology: An Introductory Textbook.

Remember that symptoms may not be explicitly mentioned by the patient, but they may be inferred by the patient’s presenting problem(s). Summarize views of these symptoms from at least two historical perspectives. For instance, how have these symptoms have been conceptualized and understood, historically? Finally, suggest diagnostic manuals and handbooks besides the DSM-5 that might be used to assess this patient.

how would you work with the client to extinguish or replace the current CR.

A woman is seeking therapy for psychosomatic anxious reactions that occur as she is pulling into the driveway after work each night. Upon further analysis, you (the therapist) discover that two years previously her husband was experiencing a severe depression that resulted in angry outbursts each evening after she returned home from work. The husband has since recovered from his depression and the angry outbursts have stopped. Identify the US, CS, CR and provide an example of how you would work with the client to extinguish or replace the current CR.

Incorporate some of the readings below in the answer.

explain how you might apply a crisis intervention model and crisis intervention skills and strategies to the survivors

Hello I have a 3 page Crisis Intervention assignment here are some details

Assignment: Crisis Intervention

The breadth of survivors’ emotional reactions to disasters, crises, and traumas can be extreme, ranging from laughter to anger, or withdrawal to acting out. Crisis workers must try to understand the disaster, crisis, or trauma from the survivor’s point of view, while appearing nonjudgmental and providing support. Of equal importance, crisis workers must understand that support might entail meeting survivors’ basic needs, such as hunger, rather than emotional needs. For instance, helping a survivor of a hurricane to load personal belongings into a truck, finding the survivor a meal, or providing the survivor with shelter for the night might be more helpful than facilitating his or her emotional response to the event. Much of crisis and disaster intervention is attending to very basic physical needs before anything else.

For this Assignment, you will review three case studies, select one to which you will respond, and explain how you might apply a crisis intervention model and crisis intervention skills and strategies to the survivors in the case study you chose.

How could an increased awareness of information processing, your learning style, and your attention and self-regulation strategies potentially affect your performance in your academic journey?

Prior to engaging in this discussion, please read “Chapter 8: Owning Our Learning Experiences” in your e-book and review the Instructor Guidance. Metacognition is the ability to be aware of and regulate one’s thought processes. It is suggested to be a process that improves our ability to effectively process information. Consider the benefits of being more aware of your own learning needs and how it might affect both your personal and professional goals. Discuss the following:  How could an increased awareness of information processing, your learning style, and your attention and self-regulation strategies potentially affect your performance in your academic journey? Your career development/professional life? Based on your career goals, how can a better understanding of how we learn be applied? (e.g. in your organization? your community? your volunteer efforts?) Did you learn anything important about yourself through the process of learning about learning? What did you learn about your peers in the class through the process of learning about learning? How will you apply what you have learned about yourself in your future learning activities (whether you are the learner or the instructor in these activities)? Do you agree or disagree that by applying the elements of metacognition into your studies, you will improve your ability to learn more effectively?

What motivation theories help you account for this high level of performance?

Recall a situation in which you and your co-workers or fellow students were highly motivated and effective.  What motivation theories help you account for this high level of performance?

THEORIES OF MOTIVATION

Supervision requires an understanding of the complex needs that affect individual performance. These needs have been categorized and explained in a number of ways. At the broadest level, motivation theories are grouped as content theories, which have specific motivating factors, and process theories, which are content-free and describe the ways in which needs, behaviors, and rewards may interact. We will first review the three most common content theories of motivation, followed by a discussion of the most popular process theory: expectancy theory

How did Descartes theories contribute to the beginning of Psychology?

1. There are many reasons why the history of psychology is important.  Pick two reasons and explain why they are important.

2.  Socrates, Plato and Aristotle were important figures in Philosophy leading up to Psychology.  Discuss how these three paved the way for Psychology.

3.  Discuss how Augustine changed the locus of control human behavior, from forces outside the person to forces inside the person.

4.  Discuss the mind-Body interaction as seen by Descartes.  How did Descartes theories contribute to the beginning of Psychology?

Explain specifically how/why each model aligns with your belief about how children learn, grow and develop.

Aspects of Theories

After reading Chapters 3 and 6 in your textbook and viewing the ECE 101 Theorist Gallery Tour, it is likely that a few theoretical models are of interest to you.  In this discussion you will explain the two theoretical models you related the most with and tell how the theorists’ ideas align with your current beliefs about how children learn, grow, and develop. This will help as you work to understand who you are as an early childhood educator.

Theorists and Theories

Piaget: Theory of Cognitive Development

Vygotsky: Sociocultural Theory of Development

Gardner: Theory of Multiple Intelligences

Skinner: Operant Conditioning Theory

Bandura: Social Learning Theory

Freud: Psychosexual Theory of Development

Erikson: Theory of Psychosocial Development

Kohlberg: Theory of Moral Development

Initial post: Your initial post should include the following:

Describe the two theoretical models  you connect with the most. Explain your thinking.

Summarize the models in your own words.

Explain specifically how/why each model aligns with your belief about how children learn, grow and develop.

Describe a real-life example for each theoretical model. For example, if you have seen a teacher provide scaffolding, explain what you saw and how it aligns with Vygotsky.

Guided Response: Read and respond to at least two of your peers’ posts who chose at least one different theoretical model than you did. In your responses,  ask questions of your peer that will help you learn more about their choice or about how you might use this theoretical model in your work with children.

What do you do and say in response?

  • You are nearing the end of a long week in your community mental health outpatient counseling practice when your supervisor asks you to squeeze in an intake with an unexpected new client who walked in without an appointment. You go to the waiting room and greet a young man, Jasce, who is clearly anxious and distressed. Upon closing the door to your office, Jasce looks down at the floor and quickly blurts out that he was diagnosed yesterday by his psychiatric medical provider as having Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). He tells you he was up all night searching the internet for information on BPD and now he feels worse than he did before he received this diagnosis. He said he tried counseling when he was a teenager immediately following a brief hospitalization for an overdose attempt, and he tried counseling again last year when he turned 21 and suicidal thoughts began returning. He mumbles that he only went to a couple of sessions both times because the counselors didn’t “get him.” He raises his head and looks you directly in the eyes with what looks like something between desperation and hopelessness and asks you quietly, “Can you help me?” What do you do and say in response? Use your own words as if you are speaking directly to Jasce. In addition to sharing what you would say in your initial response, please also continue this brief “live” script of how you would explain DBT to this vulnerable individual.
  • Describe a turning point in Marsha Linehan’s session with her suicidal client where you feel the client began to consider other choices or new perspectives on his situation. Describe what Marsha said or did to elicit this shift and how the client responded. Name and briefly explain which aspect of DBT Marsha was using at this moment.
  • Now return to your clinical practice client, and share with us how DBT could be used to provide treatment for your client’s primary identified issue and goals. Be specific in describing which aspect of DBT you feel would be most helpful and why. Please include a sample dialogue from a DBT interaction/session with your client as part of your response to this question.
  • Close your post with a brief critical assessment of DBT. Discuss what you feel is relevant and helpful, what you see as it’s limitations or risks, and how you would rate this approach in relation to strengths-based and culturally sensitive and trauma-informed practice.
