How do students view the influence of the intervention on their learning inside and outside of the classroom (if applicable)?

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 1 in the Frost e-book, Qualitative Research Methods in Psychology, and the required journal articles for this week. Also review last week’s PSY635 Week Two Discussion Scenario (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. In that scenario, the three instructors realized there are limits to the insights they can gain through anonymous counting of discussion posts. The instructors would like to answer two additional research questions: (a) How do their students actually feel about the intervention? and (b) How do students view the influence of the intervention on their learning inside and outside of the classroom (if applicable)?

In your initial post, compare the characteristics of appropriate research designs and recommend a qualitative research design that would facilitate answering the instructors’ additional questions. Explain the philosophical paradigm underlying the recommended approach. Evaluate the required articles for this week and describe the  assumptions the instructors might have to set aside as they enter into a qualitative research study. Be sure to identify any ethical issues that may apply to the research. Review the characteristics of the quantitative approach you described in the Week Two discussion. Explain the ways in which the quantitative approach and paradigm differs from the qualitative approach and paradigm you have recommended here.

research and evaluate the current literature on prenatal influences on sexual behavior, gender orientation, or gender typical behavior.

Application: Paper on Sexual Differentiation

Hormones play a crucial role in shaping the fetal body into either a male- or female-typical body. The brain determines the type and amount of hormones the fetus produces. Furthermore, hormones do not act alone, but rather in concert with brain regions that regulate sexual behavior. The brain, therefore, not only regulates sexual behavior, but it is also shaped by the same hormones that prepare the body for reproduction. These facts raise intriguing questions about gender, sexual behavior and orientation, and the extent to which these are, or are not, under conscious human control.

For this Assignment, you research and evaluate the current literature on prenatal influences on sexual behavior, gender orientation, or gender typical behavior.

The Assignment:

Select an article related to the process of sexual differentiation, prenatal influences on sexual orientation, gender orientation, or gender typical behavior and write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

  • Write a brief summary of the article you selected. Describe two implications of the article’s findings. Explain whether the findings concur or conflict with the body of literature in this area.
  • List one question that remains unanswered and is in need of further research.

How is criminal justice system portrayed?

Assignment 2: Introduction to Crime and Causes

Write an analysis of each article or news story addressing the following:

  • Describe the crime depicted in the article.
  • How is criminal justice system portrayed?
  • What feelings or reactions are evoked in you by the article?
  • How would you explain the reported criminal behavior using at least two theories from the psychological perspectives to each article or news story?

Give a complete citation for the selected article and include a digital copy, if possible.

Write a 2–3-page log entry in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

In what way may views of biological causes of crime be related to the eugenics movement?

Assignment 1: Discussion—Biological Causes of Crime

Natalie was growing concerned about her daughter Brandi’s school performance. Her grades had dropped since the beginning of the school year, and she seemed reluctant to go to school. On some days, she complained of vague symptoms, such as stomachache or headache. On other days, she simply did not get out of bed. Natalie took her to the doctor, but there was no definitive diagnosis. She questioned Brandi about any problems at school, but Brandi was uncommonly quiet. Natalie then looked at Brandi’s Facebook page and saw a series of comments from Brandi’s friends about a school bully. When Natalie confronted Brandi, the child broke down crying and told the whole story. Another girl, who was two years ahead of her in school, was bullying her. She would tease Brandi in school, leave nasty messages on her Facebook page, and even threatened her on several occasions.

Natalie was furious and immediately arranged a meeting with the teacher and school principal. The school officials attempted to address the problem by speaking to the girl and her parents. The parents placed their daughter in treatment; she was diagnosed with a behavior disorder and put on medication, which seemed to work. Both the girl’s parents and the school officials explained to Natalie that the girl had an underlying medical condition that caused her to become angry and lack impulse control. The school officials were reluctant to suspend the girl because it was “not her fault” but rather a “biological factor” causing the behavior.

Natalie was still upset. She did not understand why her own daughter should suffer. She had a nagging suspicion that the bully’s parents were using the biological cause as an excuse for their daughter’s bad behavior.

Research the biological causes of crime and the eugenics movement using the textbook, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet.

Based on the scenario, and drawing on your readings and research, respond to the following:

  • Why do you think some people are troubled by the idea that crime has a biological cause? Support your response using an article from the popular media presenting the biological argument for criminal behavior.
  • In what way may views of biological causes of crime be related to the eugenics movement? Give reasons using a scholarly, peer-reviewed article either for or against the eugenics movement.

Write your initial response in 4–6 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

how might you address a client's crisis that includes a spiritual or religious component

Being culturally sensitive by respecting your clients’ spirituality and religious traditions, in general, is an important professional competence (Furness & Gilligan, 2010). Applying your spiritual awareness to a specific client case, however, may require even greater skill. In this assignment, you consider how you might address a client’s crisis that includes a spiritual or religious component.

To prepare for this Assignment, review this week’s media about Eboni Logan’s visit with her school social worker.

By Day 7

Submit a 2- to 4-page paper that answers the following questions:

  1. As Eboni’s social worker, would you include spirituality and religion in your initial assessment? Why or why not?
  2. What strategies can you use to ensure that your personal values will not influence your practice with Eboni?
  3. How would you address the crisis that Eboni is experiencing?

Support your Assignment with specific references to the resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references.

Explain how societal events over this century have shaped the field of I/O psychology in general and your chosen research area specifically.

Assignment 3: Recognizing and Projecting Trends in I/O Psychology

Consider the trends discussed in the required readings for this module along with relevant learning from your courses throughout the MAIO program. Further, using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet, choose one of the thirteen research areas suggested in the required reading article by Cascio and Aguinis (2008). Then, respond to the following:

  • Explain how societal events over this century have shaped the field of I/O psychology in general and your chosen research area specifically.
  • Identify trends you expect to emerge within the field of I/O psychology generally and your chosen research area specifically in the next ten years. Explain and support your predictions with evidence from scholarly literature.
  • Describe competencies you think will be especially important for an I/O professional for these future trends. Justify your reasoning for the importance of these competencies.

Your final product will be a 3- to 5-page Microsoft Word document written in APA format and utilizing at least three sources from professional literature. Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, and .gov). Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Trustworthiness and reliability allow the observer to answer questions like what can be identified as reality?

Rim

Trustworthiness measures the degree of truth in a study, or how close to reality is the conclusion of the study (Burkholder,2016). It is difficult to speak about relating the exact reality when the researchers are humans and are formulating what they are observing. Indeed, even though the observers try to express the situation of their studies like they are presented to them, being humans, they might omit aspects that, after reflection, could prove to be important parameters for the study.

Reliability measures the possibility to standardize a conclusion’s study to a bigger community than the sample observed. The reliability of a study depends, among others, on the data collection and analyses (Burkholder, 2016).

Burkholder (2016) states that “qualitative data are often products of the researcher’s filtering and interpreting of information during data collection via observation and interview notes”. This citation highlights the impact of subjectivity in a study. In order to avoid or to minimize the bias of the observer’s subjectivity, it can be interesting to have at least three observers of a phenomenon at the same time. The aim is to have three points of view about the same observation, which means three field notes. Besides having multiple researchers for the same study, Burkholder (2016) suggests using members checks to confirm or affirm the observer’s field notes.

Trustworthiness and reliability allow the observer to answer questions like what can be identified as reality? And this type of questions goes together with the ontological definition (Burkholder, 2016). Besides, the level of trust in a researcher’s study allows the researcher to be confident about the knowledge he gains thanks to his study. This point constitutes the epistemological aspect of qualitative research.

One of the ethical issues of qualitative research is the deception. Indeed, the purpose of a study can push the researcher to decide not to divulge its real aim. The research design can also let the observer pretend to be someone else than a researcher. Indeed, and like well mentioned by Babbie (2017), the aim isn’t to deceive, but somewhat because of the researcher’s beliefs that this will bring more accurate data.

Can self-serving, or other, bias affect one’s perception of a behavior?

 PLEASE USE ATTACHED TEMPLATE

Our text suggests that objective reality is often significantly  different from perceived reality and is an important variable to  consider when making decisions within an organization. In addition,  attribution theory describes how people create the explanations for  their own and others’ actions, as well as the outcomes of the applied  behaviors. Based on these two premises, consider the following and then,  formulate an analysis about how attribution theory and bias (according  to chapter 8 in our text) can explain human behaviors within  organizations and industry.

  • Use, or closely follow, this template for your paper.
  • Consider the following information associated with attribution theory to support to your writing about decision-making:
    • perceptions
    • bounded reality
    • cognitive biases
    • conjunction fallacy
    • consistency
    • consensus
    • distinctiveness
    • fundamental attribution error
    • creative decision making
  • Writing Content
    • Decision-Making
      • Based on our content this week, discuss the importance of rationale  decision-making in an organization, using necessary citations. Include  how bounded reality, cognitive biases, and conjunction fallacy might  affect decision-making.
    • Attribution Theory
      • Explain attribution theory using necessary citations. Include a  discussion about the effects of consistency, consensus, distinctiveness,  and fundamental attribution error. Consider inclusion about the effects  of perception, primacy and recency effects, selective perceptions,  contrast effect, stereotyping to further support your discussion.
    • Personal Experience: Inaccurate Judgement
      • Based on our content this week, consider your own experiences with  others. Have your actions ever been judged inaccurately by a person such  as a boss, a peer, or a family member? How could this experience  support your thesis about whether or not attribution theory and bias  affect human behaviors with organization?
      • Can self-serving, or other, bias affect one’s perception of a behavior?
    • Creative Decision Making
      • Explain how creative decision-making can improve our ability to make  better decisions, considering the numerous obstacles to do so. Include  an analysis about how good decision making can potentially affect  productivity and job satisfaction.

Writing considerations:

  1. The introduction paragraph should introduce your topic and clearly explain what the paper will address.
  2. Headings can be used to organize your information. See template. (Each heading should include at least two paragraphs – minimum.)
  3. Each paragraph should make a point which can be linked back to your  introduction paragraph. Design the topic sentence to embody what the  paragraph will entail.
  4. The most important consideration in the body paragraphs is the  argument that you want to develop (is or is not perceptions, attribution  theory and bias applicable?) in response to the topic (applicability of  perception, attribution theory and bias). This argument is developed by  making and linking points in and between paragraphs.
  5. The conclusion paragraph should restate your thesis (your suggestion  that perceptions, attribution theory and bias does or does not apply to  human behaviors in organizations.)

Your assignment should be a minimum of five to six double-spaced  pages, and should adequately discuss the topic, demonstrate maturating  self-awareness, and include at least one peer-reviewed source, in  addition to your text. Use the rubric to check for thoroughness. Include  frequent citation to resources.

The Ashford Library should be used as your primary resource for this  assignment, but other credible sources will also be accepted. Your  sources should be cited according to APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

The paper

  • Must be five to six double-spaced pages in length, not including the  title or references pages, and formatted according to APA style as  outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

You must also utilize the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5e (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. to inform your thinking.  Finally, review Instructor Guidance and Announcements.  In this discussion, you will consider psychological disorders and therapies.  Be sure to use your own academic voice (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and apply in-text citations (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. appropriately throughout your post.

  • Choose a character from a book, television show, or movie who is portrayed as suffering from a psychological disorder.  [Examples: “My Mad Fat Diary”, “The Hunger Games Series”, “Forest Gump”, “Rain Man” (Please do not use these.)]
  • Briefly describe the character and his(her) behaviors that lead you to believe they have a disorder.
  • Read “Conceptualizing Psychiatric Disorders Using ‘Four D’s’ of Diagnoses (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.”.  Note that many professionals utilize the four “Ds” to determine abnormality:
    • Deviance:  Are the behaviors/feelings deviant?
    • Dysfunction:  Do the behaviors/feelings interfere with the individual’s ability to function in daily life?
    • Distress:  Does the individual experience distress due to the behaviors/feelings?
    • Danger:  Are the behaviors/feelings harmful to the individual or those around him/her?
    • (Some consider a fifth “D”, Duration.).
  • Appraise your character and his/her behaviors/feelings for each of the above “Ds”.  Are variations in his/her behaviors/feelings significant enough to constitute a psychological disorder, in your opinion?

You are the intake clinician at a large acute inpatient psychiatric facility, which includes a sizable detoxification unit. It is an unusually busy day and the lobby is full of patients seeking treatment. Half an hour before lunch, you pick up another clipboard from the “pending” rack and quickly scan the intake information filled in by the prospective patient and receptionist. Mark is a 45-year-old male who has been waiting since 8:15 AM. He is requesting alcohol detox. You notice that Mark has been waiting for over three hours and you are frustrated because you will have to begin yet another interview with an apology for the long wait. You notice that the blood pressure assessed by the receptionist is somewhat elevated you make a mental note to inform the nurse: BP = 149/97, pulse 104, respiration rate 18. You invite Mark into one of the free interview rooms and you notice that he appears much older than his 45 years. He’s dressed casually and is a bit disheveled; his skin looks old/tanned and flushed; in his right hand, he holds an emesis bag. He apologizes and he states that he has been having dry heaves since yesterday evening but he tells you that he is able to keep down some fluids.

You observe that Mark does not look too good and since he’s been waiting in your lobby for three hours, you think it’s a good idea to assess another set of vitals. The receptionist obliges and reports the new vital signs as BP = 154/103, pulse 114, respiration rate 20, oxygen saturation 98% at room air. You become a little concerned by the increase in blood pressure and pulse and you note that while previously Mark’s shirt was dry,he now has sweat stains on his back and chest; visible sweat beads are also noticeable on his forehead and neck. You noticed that Mark speaks softly now when the door to the interview room is closed to cut down on the noise from the hallway. He asks you if you can turn off the bright ceiling lights and to keep on only the lamp on your desk. You oblige. Mark tells you that he started drinking at the age of 16 simply because it was popular and the fun thing to do on the weekends in high school. His social drinking increased somewhat in his 20s but it became problematic in his early 30s.

Mark works as a plumber, and along with his older brother,he owned his own plumbing business. Somewhat embarrassed,he tells you that for the past 15 years
