How will you harness the creative talents of your team to improve the outcomes of your team and organization?

As you begin the last week of the course, take the time to examine how you have approached the creativity process, your own creativity, and the role you can play in fostering creativity and driving innovation within your organization. Consider the new habits you can cultivate to challenge the comfortable and the familiar; the new routines you can adopt that can lead to innovations in processes, products, and services. How will you continue developing your own creativity and applying it to challenges you encounter personally and professionally? How will you harness the creative talents of your team to improve the outcomes of your team and organization? This week, you will draft a plan for how to bring together a creative team.

This will allow you to draw on your experiences and your learning throughout the course. You will also create a new goal for the Blueprint for Professional and Personal Growth based on the learning and insight gained from the course resources and assignments.

Discussion 1: Keeping Up With Technology in Human Services

Human services professionals use technology for everything from finding resources to keeping in contact with clients and staying current by monitoring the human services environment. With the variety of technologies available, and with new ones constantly emerging, keeping up with the latest innovations can be challenging. Professionals are tasked with finding—and, in some cases—learning to use the technologies that are most beneficial to their area of practice.

With these thoughts in mind:

By Day 3

Post a brief description of a technology (e.g., cell phone, Internet site, app) that might be valuable to a human services professional in your area of interest or practice. Using specific examples, explain how professionals might use the technology and how it may benefit their particular practice.

Explain whether you find personality trait theories more effective as an explanation for human behavior than psychoanalytic

Submit a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

  • Explain how applying personality trait theories to your assessment results might help you understand yourself and your relationships in two specific areas of functioning (e.g., academic, occupational, social, or others).
  • Explain whether you find personality trait theories more effective as an explanation for human behavior than psychoanalytic or humanistic theories, and provide your reasoning.
  • Describe personality trait theorists with whom you particularly agree and disagree, and explain your reasoning.

Describe how society defines crime

Myths and Reality of CrimeAs we learn in the video, Crimes of the Powerful, our justice system tends to focus on street crime, often ignoring much more significant problems such as white-collar, corporate, and state crime. The video also discusses euthanasia, although the point of this reference is to illustrate how the law can be used as a tool for social change. The video also discusses moral values with a focus on media coverage of harm to children. Laws have changed in direct response to these incidents and the resulting media coverage. In effect, this coverage becomes an engine for social change. The video ends with a discussion of crime theory, reminding us that many criminological theories fall short when applied to people with wealth and high status.

Write a paper discussing the myths and realities of crime. Please elaborate on the following points in your essay:

Imagine asking 100 strangers to describe a criminal. Predict whether those descriptions would be likely to focus on street criminals, or the variety of topics covered in this video.

Describe how society defines crime. Do not provide a definition – instead, explain how the definition is reached.

Discuss how society decides what to define as a crime.

Present a clear statement about a particular crime, something we know to be absolutely true. Illustrate how we know that this is an accurate statement.

Present an example of a widely held myth or misconception about crime and society. Determine how we know that this is a myth. Explain why this myth is so difficult to abandon.

The paper must be three to four pages in length and formatted according to APA style. You must use at least two scholarly resources other than the textbook to support your claims and sub-claims. Cite your resources in text and on the reference page. describe how you could use specific memory strategies to improve your study skills

Memory: Study Skills

Psychologists have found that human memory involves three processes: encoding information into memory, storing information in memory, and retrieving information from memory. Psychologists have also identified specific strategies to help people encode, store, and retrieve information. How can this research help you study for this class more efficiently? What strategies could help you encode and store information in your memory as you study? What strategies could help you retrieve this information when you take a test?

In a multi-paragraph essay, describe how you could use specific memory strategies to improve your study skills. Be sure to explain how each strategy will improve how you encode, store, or retrieve information in memory. Include details from class materials, readings, and research on memory to support your discussion.

  • Learning and Behavior
  • Article Title: Individual differences in learning predict the return of fear
    Purpose
The researchers focused on determining the relationship between fear and people’s differences. It focuses on why people have different learning mechanisms for the considerations of fear (Gershman, & Hartley, 2015). The research focuses on the patients who have already received treatment for fear and those who have not.
  • Research question
The research questions aimed to address the differences between why people indicate different levels of treatment with and when faced with fear. Thus, the research question is to understand “Why do some people show a spontaneous recovery of fear following treatment, while others do not?” (Gershman, & Hartley, 2015).
  • Research design
The research design and methodology of the research was a randomized trial of a sample size of 106 participants. The sample was through the computational model and conveying the participants into a 2-day fear conditioning phase. The 2-day fear conditioning phase had 2 phases, which were used for recording the changes (Gershman, & Hartley, 2015). The acquisition and extinction phases. All these helped to understand the correlation between the participant’s acquisition of fear and learning to overcome fear.

    Results
Based on the results of the research, there is a different correlating experience between the variables of research and the participant’s fear learning. Based on the experiments, it was found, the participants’ response to fear is heterogeneous (Gershman, & Hartley, 2015). The different stages for treating fear based on the model implied the latent and state.

  • Conclusion
In conclusion, the treatment of fear among the patients is defined as a condition defined to help and improve the unknown foundations of fear. It is important to understand why there is a change in fear among the participants. Based on the conclusion from the tests over 83% of the participants were affected by the response to fear (Gershman, & Hartley, 2015). It was a condition based on the heterogeneity and thus, it influences learning and behavior of people with fear.

    • Hi Yvette,
I’m so glad you found an article in the journal! You mentioned some of the influences pertinent to learning and the fear response, and even emotions can be a catalyst or an impediment to learning. It has been estimated that 95% of our reactions are unconsciously driven by the amygdala (where we process emotion) and only modestly impacted by the executive centers of the cerebral cortex. Although ours is generally considered a rational brain, it is an emotionalbrain, where feelings receive first priority.
A student who is emotionally upset is one who cannot learn well and will not remember content information for an assessment like a test. In school, mere exposure to content information (lecture, text, etc.) is no guarantee that it will reach the personal/emotional threshold of “personal importance” to the learner, where encoding the information for permanent memory storage is deemed necessary. What students encode depends on what they are paying attention to at the time.
How did habituation factor into the study you discussed? Reply Reply to Comment

explore some of the counseling skills and standards originating from ethical standards of practice.

Assignment 1: Ethical Considerations

Counselors have to consider many guidelines when working with clients. There are state laws to follow, policies and procedures within agencies or organizations, licensing rules issued by governing boards, and also established ethical standards.

In this assignment, you will explore some of the counseling skills and standards originating from ethical standards of practice.

In the last module, you accessed, downloaded, and read the ethical codes for counselors and sport psychologists. For this assignment, complete the following tasks:

  • Search both the codes and define the following key concepts: confidentiality, power differential, and boundaries with clients.
  • Search for each concept within the codes and define each concept. There may be more than one application for each concept. For example, there may be physical boundaries to maintain with clients as well as emotional and financial boundaries. Explore all aspects of the three concepts above.
  • Then choose a specific population, such as child athletes or elite athletes, and discuss how these ethical standards are applied to the unique population.

Create a one- to two-page response in Microsoft Word. All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources. Cite appropriate sources, such as the section and paragraph number, in the ethics codes and include references at the end of the document.

Name the file SP6104_M2_A1_lastname_firstinitial.doc. Submit it to the M2: Assignment 1 Dropbox and the Discussion Area by the due date assigned.

Through the end of the module, comment on the responses of two peers, providing your viewpoint on the uniqueness of the standards selected by each author. Post your comments in the Discussion Area.

Do you believe that addiction is hereditary?

Expected word-count for substantive responses for numbers 1-9 is between 50-100 words. Provide references.:

Drugs that lead to dependency must first reinforce people behavior. Behavior is regularly followed by an appetitive stimulus. for many people initial substance use involves an element of impulsively, or acting  without foresight or regard for the consequences (Carlson,2013). People start by experience in some like it in others may not. If they like it, they will most likely take it again. Importantly, positive or negative reinforcement need not be driven solely by the effects of the drug. The positive reinforcing effects of substance tend to diminish with repeated use. This is the tolerance and may lead to use of the substance in greater amounts. Addictive drugs have reinforcement’s effects. This activation strengthens the response that was just made. If the drug was taken by a fast-acting route such as injection or inhalation, the last response will be the act of taking the drug, so that response will be reinforced. Reinforcement is powerful and works with a wide variety of species ( Carlson,2013).

Carlson, N. R. (2013). Physiology of behavior. (11th ed.). Boston, MA: Allyn & Bacon

Positive reinforcement causes individuals to take drugs in the first place; if the drug makes them feel good they will continue to take it to get that positive feeling, this can lead to drug abuse. A person goes through withdrawal if they stop taking the drug they are addicted to and this is where negative reinforcement can come into play. The symptoms experienced through withdrawal are distressing, but once the individual takes the drug again the unpleasant symptoms of withdrawal go away, this produces negative reinforcement (Carlson, 2013).

3 Negative reinforcement (taking away something negative) AND positive reinforcement (adding something positive) are at the heart of the addiction process. A good review from Simply Psychology on Skinner’s Box can be found at the following link which depicts these processes in rat research. Check it out at https://www.simplypsychology.org/operant-conditioning.html

4 Discuss some of the treatments options available for addictions. Describe how drugs such as methadone and buprenorphine are used to treat drug addiction. How do you feel about treating drug addiction with administering another drug? Explain your response. Bring in at least 1 reference to support your answer.

I decided to look up an inpatient drug and rehab center as a choice of treatment for addictions. Inpatient drug treatment facilities give the patient somewhere to stay that is safe and they cannot have access to the drug of choice. In WV they actually have a facility in a hospital setting where the patient can receive mental health services, and they specialize in dual diagnosis treatments (Rehab Center, 2018). I believe that the best treatment depends on the abuser and what they want. If they do not want to quit, they are not going to quit. They have to want it for themselves. I have never had experience with drugs or anyone that has abused them and the treatment they have received. I do feel that treating a drug with another drug is not the right answer especially because again the abuser has to want help.

6 Do you believe that addiction is hereditary? Why or why not? How big of a role does nurture play in addictions? Provide examples. If you had to select one, which one would you say plays a larger role in additions, nature or nurture? Bring in a supplemental research article or reputable source to support your opinion.

7 I believe that nurture plays a big role in addictions. If parents raise a child in a way that provides him or her with positivity and the correct coping/problem solving skills, a child is less likely to fall into addiction. According to “The Great Debate: Nature Vs. Nurture; Genetics And Abuse”(2018), “Research has indicated that children who are raised by parents adopting the authoritative model of parenting tend to be more successful than their peers, when measured for self-image, academic success, or substance abuse (or lack thereof)” (Four Styles of Parenting).

Modeling plays a huge role in addictions. I also find that it takes a team approach when treating and supporting an individual with an addiction. The team can be AA or NA, specialists who provide psychotherapy and medication management to those with addictions, and even a recovery center. What do folks think about having friends and family as part of this team? I wonder if the team should be family and friends given that family and friends are usually to first line of defense to burn out or are using drugs and alcohol as well? Thoughts? Are there other types of support people can recommend here?

Review the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) (2008) video and discuss how the use of alcohol effect pregnancy and brain development of the fetus. Discuss the kinds of long-term behavioral effects can result from fetal alcohol syndrome. Discuss the role prevention plays in FAS.

Identify the factors that might      impede competency restoration.

If criminal defendants are deemed incompetent to face a trial, they have the right to have their competency restored since they cannot be released without having a trial and they cannot be held indefinitely without being given the opportunity to become competent. Accordingly, it is important to state how they will be restored to competency.

Create a 3- to 4-page paper in a Microsoft Word document answering the two parts of this assignment.

Part 1:

CST has long been a sought-out legal procedure. Identify a landmark case decision that has played a factor in this process and address the following issues:

  • Explain      the process of competency restoration.
  • Describe      why the process of competency restoration is important.
  • Discuss      one landmark case decision that has played a role in the process of      restoration.

Part 2:

Elaborate on your discussion by including the process of restoration in the forensic arena.

In your report, address the following:

  • Identify the appropriate APA ethical      codes and the specialty guidelines for forensic psychologists that may      apply to the process of restoration.
  • Examine the limits to      confidentiality.
  • Identify the factors that might      impede competency restoration.

Your responses should rely upon at least three scholarly resources from the professional literature that are cited in APA format. The literature may include the Argosy University online library resources; relevant textbooks; peer-reviewed journal articles; and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu and .gov).

What intervention would you recommend to be most appropriate to reduce exposure to these risk factors?

Assume that you are working in a community health department. The department has some federal money that it wants to allocate to two health promotion programs from the following:

  • Decrease in deaths from cardiovascular disease
  • Decrease in deaths from breast cancer
  • Decrease in teenage pregnancy
  • Decrease in cigarette smoking
  • Decrease in incidence of diabetes
  • Decrease in motor vehicle accidents
  • Decrease in osteoporosis and hip fractures among women
  • Decrease in obesity

Identify the health promotion programs that you would want to investigate and get them approved by your instructor.

Address the following questions:

  • Identify the risk factors associated with the selected health promotion programs.
  • What is the target population associated with the selected health promotion program? Consider the hypothetical target population, consisting of middle-aged women, male adolescent gang members, premature infants, etc., and describe the characteristics of each program.
  • What are the risk factors that you want to focus on in order to achieve the objective of the health promotion program?
  • What intervention would you recommend to be most appropriate to reduce exposure to these risk factors? You can choose at what level of intervention you want to implement each program (primary, secondary, tertiary health intervention).
  • What will be the process by which this intervention will achieve the goal of the program?
  • What will be the anticipated outcome of this intervention?

To support your work, use your course and textbook readings and also use the South University Online Library. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.
