Explain how different kinds of questions are used for different purposes in interviews

I need someone to conduct onduct two separate role-played interviews. Have your volunteer think of any two problems they might be facing in their life (preferably not real but imagined). They can be as wild and crazy as they would like, such as, “My llama ate my dining room table, so now I won’t get my deposit back on the apartment” and, “My roommate is a werewolf.”

For Scenario 1, you must play “20 Questions” to determine what your interviewee’s imaginary Problem #1 is. You only get 20 questions, and only “Yes-No” answers are allowed.

For Scenario 2, you must determine what your interviewee’s Problem #2 is, but you are allowed to ask open-ended questions.

Based on your two mock interviews, imagine you have been asked to speak to an undergraduate Counseling Skills course. Create a PowerPoint presentation to compare the results of the two mock interviews. Include the following in your presentation:

Explain how different kinds of questions are used for different purposes in interviews.Compare your experiences with both types of questions in this exercise. Which method of questioning felt more natural to you, and which felt like more work? Explain how your interviewee’s responses differed across the two sessions.Recommend questioning strategies to obtain needed information from clients, and then relate them to your future work as a helper.

Support your presentation with at least five scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.

What is known about the theorists/psychologists who developed each method?

Guidance regarding Week 4 Assignment – READ

The assignment instructions note that Husserl and Heidegger are two prominent phenomenological philosophers. The instructions also indicate that you are to identify and discuss two phenomenological research methods that have emerged from each of those philosophers’ theories.

Philosophy is largely theoretical, while research methods are applied. Be sure as you approach this assignment you are focusing on the research methods and the psychologists/theorists who developed them, not the philosophers.

In other words, you will want to identify psychologists and theorists such as Moustakas, Giorgi, Smith, Van Kaam, van Manen, etc., and discuss their research methods and how they relate to the original philosophies of Husserl and Heidegger.

Also, be sure you understand the primary difference between the two philosophies of phenomenology since that will drive your understanding of what research methods emerged from each. The attached article from Finlay should help, in addition to other research you will conduct on the methods.

Assignment:

Phenomenological   Research Methods

The quest to understand the lived experience and the philosophical structures of experience and consciousness is the focus of a movement that began in the early years of the 20th Century. The movement is called phenomenology because the movement explores the lived experience of phenomena. Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger were two of the prominent philosophers who developed this method of inquiry though each took a significantly different philosophical approach to understanding human experience. In this assignment, you will discuss the psychology research methods that emerged from the philosophies of Husserl and Heidegger and the researchers who developed those methods.

General Requirements:

· This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

· Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.

· This assignment requires that at least two scholarly research sources related to this topic, and at least one in-text citation from each source be included.

Directions:

Write a paper (1,250-1,500 words) in which you discuss both the phenomenological research methods in psychology that emerged from the philosophies of Husserl and Heidegger and the theorists/psychologists who developed those methods. Include the following in your paper:

1. A discussion of at least two phenomenological research methods that emerged from the phenomenological philosophy of Husserl. What were the central tenets of each method? What is known about the theorists/psychologists who developed each method?

2. A discussion of at least two phenomenological research methods that emerged from the phenomenological philosophy of Heidegger. What were the central tenets of each method? What is known about the theorists/psychologists who developed each method?

3. A contrast of the primary differences among the phenomenological research methods identified above. How does each method address approaches to data gathering, data analysis, and the role of the researcher?

4. A research-based statement of and rationale for the method you believe allows the best understanding of human experience.

Explain the idea of a multi-dimensional approach and how it differs from a single approach to understanding the major causes of mental illness.

To prepare for this week’s Assignment, review the following videos in addition to this week’s assigned Reading:

  1. Duran, V. M. (2013). Supernatural views- Historic. Retrieved from http://www.cengage.com/custom/ems/psych/shared/video/player.html?video=suprnatral_vws_hstrc_16360.

In the past, a one-cause approach was more accepted to understanding psychopathological behavior. Today, it is more accepted that there are multiple causes that can explain the development of mental illness.

For this Assignment, you will compare and contrast the early ways of thinking about psychological disorders to today’s current view and explain the multi-dimensional model and the major approaches (theorized causes) of mental illness.

  1. Explain what early thoughts and beliefs existed about what caused mental illness.
  2. Describe one of the psychological traditions and how it furthered the beliefs about what causes mental illness from that of the early beliefs by the Greeks and from Religions. Select from: Freud’s theory of the unconscious, humanism, or behaviorism.
  3. Explain the idea of a multi-dimensional approach and how it differs from a single approach to understanding the major causes of mental illness.
  4. Last, referring directly to the textbook, provide an overview of the major approaches of a multi-dimensional integrated model listed in the textbook. For each major approach, include its central tenant(s) as it relates to the explanation (or cause) of mental illness. The major approaches that provide an explanation or cause for the development of mental illness are biological approach (genetics and neurological factors), psychological approach (cognitive and behavioral factors, including the unconscious), emotions approach, social and cultural approach, and the developmental approach. For example, from the biological approach, an imbalance of neurochemicals is believed to influence (or cause) behavioral changes as well as heritability.
