Psychiatric Care and Mental Health in the Community

Review the attached Power Point presentation.  Once done answer the following questions;

1.  What challenges have you encountered in working with patients with mental health issues? How do you feel these challenges will be different in a community health setting?  Would it be easier or more difficult and why?

2.  Discuss scenarios in which the community health nurses might encounter ethical issues related to mental health.  Give some examples and explain.

As stated in the syllabus present your assignment in an APA format, word document, Arial 12 font attached to the forum in the discussion tab of the discussion board title “week 14 discussion questions”.  You must used at least 2 evidence based references no older than 5 years besides the class textbook.  A minimum of 500 excluding the first and references page are required.

Overview/Description:

The final project for NSG6101 consists of the development of a novel research proposal specific to your role specialization. The project must include an intervention appropriate to nursing practice and consistent with your MSN role option. An alternative to the above includes the selection of a specialty organization to focus research proposals based on the priorities of that organization. Examples of these organizations could include (but are not limited to): Sigma Theta Tau International, American Nurses’ Foundation, Oncology Nursing Society, Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, American Psychiatric Nursing Association, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, National Association of Pediatric Nurse Associates and Practitioners, National League For Nursing, etc.

Throughout this course you have been developing various sections of the research proposal. This week you will assemble the final proposal (addressing faculty feedback). This paper is to be developed in APA format/style using the required template and not to exceed 8-10 pages (excluding title page/references/appendices).

Assignment 6

Personal Class Design Project – Part 1

Details: Complete this assignment according to the following:

1.Design a class that you would like to teach someday. The class must be at least 4 hours in length and must be multiple sessions. It can be four sessions of 1 hour each, or two sessions of 2 hours each, depending on your topic and target audience.

2.Begin by describing the institution that is sponsoring the class (e.g., academic, hospital, or community agency). Include the philosophy of the sponsoring organization and how that will affect the course you are developing.

3.Explain how you determined a need for this class (needs assessment).

4.Write a one-paragraph description of the class.

5.Identify the target audience.

6.Identify the learning resources you will use for the class (textbooks or other resources).

7.Write the program outcomes for the course and the learner objectives for each class session. Indicate which domains of learning are represented by each learner objective.

There is no predetermined length criterion for this assignment. It is intended that each student will develop a class that they can use in their selected area of education.

Case Study 2

Case Study 2  Innate and Adaptive Immunity  Melissa is a 15-year-old high school student. Over the last week, she had been feeling tired and found it difficult to stay awake in class. By the time the weekend had arrived, she developed a sore throat that made it difficult to eat and even drink. Melissa was too tired to get out of bed, and she said her head ached. On Monday morning, her mother took her to her doctor. Upon completing the physical exam, he told Melissa the lymph nodes were enlarged in her neck and she had a fever. He ordered blood tests and told Melissa he thought she had mononucleosis, a viral infection requiring much bed rest.  1.Innate and adaptive immune defenses work collectively in destroying invasive microorganisms. What is the interaction between macrophages and T lymphocytes during the presentation of antigen? 2.Melissa’s illness is caused by a virus. Where are type I interferons produced, and why are they important in combating viral infections? 3.Humoral immunity involves the activation of B lymphocytes and production of antibodies. What are the general mechanisms of action that make antibodies a key component of an immune response?

Assignment Requirements:  Before finalizing your work, you should: •Ensure you have written at least four double-spaced pages. •be sure to read the Assignment description carefully (as displayed above); •consult the Grading Rubric (under the Course Resources) to make sure you have included everything necessary; and •utilize spelling and grammar check to minimize errors. •follow the conventions of Standard American English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.); •be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful; •display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics; and •use APA 6th Edition format.

Health Literacy

The government has defined health literacy as “The degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions” (Healthy People 2020, 2011). Scholars have demonstrated that health literacy skills are stronger predictors of health status than age, income, employment status, education level, and race or ethnicity. Individuals with inadequate health literacy often struggle with basic tasks when managing a chronic condition such as reading and comprehending prescription bottles, appointment slips, self-management instructions, and educational brochures. The problems are compounded when the individual has several conditions requiring different medications. Inadequate health literacy can be a barrier to controlling disease that can lead to medication errors, increased hospitalization, poor health outcomes, and greater health care costs.

Discussion:

  • *Provide an example that illustrates the difference between literacy and health literacy.
  • *Describe one potential health-related consequence to low health literacy and a population at risk for this potential consequence, explaining why they are at risk.

Nursing Change Project

Topic: In Hispanic patients living in South Florida with diabetes type

II, does lifestyle modification such as diet and physical activity

help lower HBA1C compared to those who do not make life style changes.

Stakeholder: Sanitas medical center- primary care and

Florida Blue health insurance

Part A: 1 page

Develop your project aims, values, and desired outcomes portion of your paper using a clinical microsystem approach.

  • 1. Describe the project aim: The project aim should include examples of features and functions that will occur as a result of implementing your change project.
  • 2. Describe the project value: The value should describe the benefits of the change project implementation to the stakeholders, the organization, and the nursing profession.
  • 3.Describe the desired outcomes: Specifically, state the purpose, quality focus, and viewpoint of the project as well as its expected accomplishments. A project goal should reference the project’s business benefits in terms of cost, time, and/or quality that address individual and family healthcare needs or changes, results, impacts, or consequences that the project has on people, programs, or institutions. Goals and objectives should be measurable, shared, and agreed on by all key stakeholders. They are directly linked to the concept of project success factors.

The project, aims, values, and desired outcomes are well-developed. They are clear and thorough, and there is evidence that a clinical microsystems approach is used. Aims include examples of projected features and functions. Values include implementation benefits for specific stakeholders. Desired outcomes state the purpose, have a quality focus, and describe the benefits that will occur as a result of implementation.

Part B: Theoretical framework- 4 pages

For this section of your paper, you must specifically identify and address two independent theories or conceptual models that relate directly to your change project in addition to the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle. Keep in mind that your theoretical framework provides the structure for your change project. Think of it as a frame for a new home that is being built. The framework is what guides and directs your change project. Basically, it will help make sense of your change project. Make sure to describe how you will apply these theories and models to your change project.

This paper should be at least four pages in length, not including the cover or reference pages.
