Week 1A2

Physical Effects of Aging

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research  about physical effects that result because of aging. Based on your  research and understanding, answer the following questions:

  • Analyze, identify, and explain at least four different physical effects on the body that occur during the aging process.
  • Analyze, identify, and explain the systems of the body that are affected by these changes.
  • Provide at least three specific examples of how these physical conditions can affect daily living.
  • Explain how a person’s day to day life could be affected by these  changes. Explain the modifications that a person may need to make as a  result of these changes.
  • Describe the eights stages of Erikson’s model.
  • Relate the physical impairments that occur on the body to Erik  Erikson’s model of human development. Explain the strengths and  weaknesses of Erik Erikson’s model. Compare Erik Erikson’s model with  another model of aging.

Assessing education

How might assessment of quality in distance education differ from assessment of quality in a traditional classroom setting? In 300-400 words with at least 2 references

fitness

Look at the results of the fitness assessments that you have been doing in the labs.  Consider which component you need improvement on or that you want to address first.  Using the SMART principles, set one long-term and 2 short-term fitness goals for yourself.  Your goals should address one of the five components of fitness (i.e. cardiovascular endurance).   Your long term goal will be the big picture and your two short term goals will be achievable in a shorter time frame so you can experience some success as you work toward your long term goal.  You will then use these goals as the focus of  your personal fitness plan, which is due at the end of the semester.  Many of you mentioned goals in your first discussion board assignment.  For the most part, these were very vague and didn’t give a definite end result.  These goals need to be VERY specific with a defined outcome.

An example of a SMART long term fitness goal:  I want to run 3 miles without having to walk in 7 months.

An example of a SMART short term fitness goal for the long term goal:  I want to run 1 mile without having to walk in 4 weeks.

Examples of  goals that are not SMART:  I want to exercise more.  I want to eat healthier.  I want to get in shape.  I want to eat more fruits and vegetables.  I want to work out 3 days a week.  These are NOT specific or measurable and are lacking a time frame.  Your goals should be directly related to a component of fitness and NOT what you intend to do to accomplish it.  That would be your fitness plan, which you will begin working on soon.  (I will run 3 days a week for 20 minutes.  This is a plan, not a goal, in terms of this assignment)

Respiratory Alterations: For Experts in Nursing. I need it done in 12hours

Respiratory Alterations

Scenario

Kevin is a 6-year-old boy who is brought in for evaluation by his parents. The parents are concerned that he has a really deep cough that he just can’t seem to get over. The history reveals that he was in his usual state of good health until approximately 1 week ago when he developed a profound cough. His parents say that it is deep and sounds like he is barking. He coughs so hard that sometimes he actually vomits. The cough is productive for mucus, but there is no blood in it. Kevin has had a low-grade temperature but nothing really high. His parents do not have a thermometer and don’t know for sure how high it got. His past medical history is negative. He has never had childhood asthma or RSV. His mother says that they moved around a lot in his first 2 years and she is not sure that his immunizations are up to date. She does not have a current vaccination record.

To Prepare

– Review Chapter 27 and Chapter 28 in the Huether and McCance text.

– Identify the pathophysiology of the alteration that you associated with the cough.

– Reflect on how genetics and age factors might impact the disorder.

Post a description of the disorder and underlying respiratory alteration (Croup known as Laryngotracheobronchitis) associated with the type of cough in your selected scenario. Then, explain the pathophysiology of the respiratory alteration. Finally, explain how age and genetics factors might impact the disorder.

Organizational Values Presentation

BASED ON NURSING

Prepare a 10-minute presentation (10-15 slides, not including title or reference slide) on organizational culture and values.

  1. Describe how alignment between the values of an organization and the values of the nurse impact nurse engagement and patient outcomes.
  2. Discuss how an individual can use effective communication techniques to overcome workplace challenges, encourage collaboration across groups, and promote effective problem solving. Incorporate how system needs and the culture of health may influence the outcomes. How does this relate to health promotion and disease prevention in the larger picture?
  3. Identify a specific instance from your own professional experience in which the values of the organization and the values of the individual nurses did or did not align. Describe the impact this had on nurse engagement and patient outcomes.

While APA style format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Asthma: For Experts in Nursing only

Asthma

Complications of asthma can be sudden. Consider the case of Bradley Wilson, a young boy who had several medical conditions. He appeared in good health when he went to school, returned home, and ate dinner. However, when he later went outside to play, he came back inside wheezing. An ambulance took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead (Briscoe, 2012). In another case, 10-year-old Dynasty Reese, who had mild asthma, woke up in the middle of the night and ran to her grandfather’s bedroom to tell him she couldn’t breathe. By the time paramedics arrived, she had passed out and was pronounced dead at the hospital (Glissman, 2012). These situations continue to outline the importance of recognizing symptoms of asthma and providing immediate treatment, as well as distinguishing minor symptoms from serious, life-threatening symptoms. Since these symptoms and attacks are often induced by a trigger, as an advanced practice nurse, you must be able to help patients identify their triggers and recommend appropriate treatment options. For this reason, you need to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic asthma and acute asthma exacerbation.

To Prepare

  • Review      “Asthma” in Chapter 27 of the Huether and McCance text. Identify the      pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic asthma and acute asthma      exacerbation. Consider how these disorders are similar and different.
  • Select      one of the following factor: gender, ethnicity, or behavior. Think about      how the factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of both disorders.      Reflect on how you would diagnose and prescribe treatment of these      disorders for a patient based on the factor you selected.
  • Construct      two mind maps—one for chronic asthma and one for acute asthma      exacerbation. Consider the epidemiology and clinical presentation of both      chronic asthma and acute asthma exacerbation.

To Complete

Write a 2 pages paper that addresses the following:

  • Describe      the pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic asthma and acute asthma      exacerbation. Be sure to explain the changes in the arterial blood gas      patterns during an exacerbation.
  • Explain      how the factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of both      disorders. Describe how you would diagnose and prescribe treatment for a      patient based on the factor you selected.
  • Construct      two mind maps—one for chronic asthma and one for acute asthma exacerbation.      Include the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical presentation, as      well as the diagnosis and treatment you explained in your paper.

My reflection paper

I need reflection paper for my 3rd week of Capstone as a school nurse.. It should be 2 and half or 3 pages in APA format and reference page. Please include these information in the paper: “In my third week I felt I am part of the system and getting to know students that have some health issues. My preceptor provided me small desk and laptop, so I be able to document whatever I do for students independently, which was very nice ( under her name but I include my initial and last name). This week we had lots of nose bleeding cases. As I learned in my medsurg class, I help them by sitting upright, tilt their head forward and pinch soft part of their nose. just above their nostrils for few minutes. Nose bleeding can be frightening, but they aren’t usually sign of anything serious. Also, everyday I deal with few cases of lice hair which amazed me how common it is between students. Few students have chronic issue in their hair lice, because their mom don’t care the health advices of the nurses and it seems this problem won’t be solved. Something that really made me sad in my 3rd week of capstone was that I noticed a boy frequently comes to nursing office because he is so sleepy, can’t focus and fall sleep in his class room. Immediately comes to nursing office and I let him to take a rest in bed for 10 minutes, he deeply fall sleep. I asked the nurse about him and found out that he is homeless and with his younger sister and parents live in a shelter in fire station. Who can be focused in this situation? I was really heart broken when I knew about his story. All the time I am thinking about him and how or why the life is so unfair to him in a very young age.  Also I noticed that type of issues that make students comes to nursing office is really different between elementary school and junior high students. The younger ones usually come to to nurse after gym due to falling or any time because of headache and stomachache. Junior high students more dealing with puberty and emotional issues, both need to be acknowledged by the nurse.”

Everyday is new experience and learning and i am so motivated to get higher education to expand my knowledje and be a better nurse and be able to help anybody needs me as a nurse,
