ROLE OF A SYSTEM MANAGER

As an information systems manager, you need to consider an important aspect of your operation–patient information, privacy, and security. Review the following case scenarios and select one to use for your management plan for security and privacy.

Case Scenario 1 (Security Breach)

The administration at St. John’s Hospital takes pride in its sound policies and procedures for the protection of confidential client information. In fact, it serves as a model for other institutions in the area; however, printouts discarded in the restricted-access information systems department are not shredded. On numerous occasions, personnel working late have observed the cleaning staff reading discarded printouts. What actions, if any, should these personnel take toward the actions of the cleaning staff? What actions, if any, should be taken by the information systems administration?

Case Scenario 2 (Natural Disaster)

Living on the Gulf Coast is a benefit that many residents of a small Southern town enjoy; however, natural disasters are a concern. The town has just been struck by a hurricane and the entire basement of your operation is flooded by the storm surge. Patient files were destroyed or washed away with the receding water. What actions do you take when patients ask for their health records? What processes did you have in place to protect your records in anticipation of such an event?

Research management plans and choose one of the scenarios above and develop a process for maintaining patient privacy and security.

Create a detailed management plan for patient data privacy and security in the case of a security breach (Case Scenario 1) or a natural disaster (Case Scenario 2).

Based on the management plan format you found through your research write a 1,400- to 1,750-word paper that details your facility’s management plan.

Include the following:

  • Create a business problem statement.
  • Analyze how you will respond to these situations.
  • Evaluate the training you can provide to your staff.
  • Analyze the considerations of HIPAA and patient privacy compliance requirements in planning.
  • Analyze the need for an information technology management plan for natural disasters and security breaches.
  • Evaluate how you will implement your management plan.

Create a 350-to 700-word executive summary in which you review the management plan you designed. Explore possible challenges and the utilization of your plan.

Cite a minimum of three peer-reviewed, scholarly, or similar references, other than the textbook, that directly support your analysis.

Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

CARE FOR THE VULNERABLE POPULATION

  • Discuss several risk factors that may impact health outcomes for vulnerable populations.

Assurance is one of the three core functions of public health. Find a resource in your community (other than WIC) that could assist Mary during her pregnancy. Start by searching the internet for your local health department’s website. What services do they provide for pregnant women, those living in poverty, or those with mental health concerns? What about your local welfare office? Do they provide prenatal or mental health services? Are there any service organizations, crisis pregnancy centers, or churches providing help for pregnant women or those experiencing mental health concerns? (The Internet, your local newspaper, and the telephone book may also help you locate resources)

  • Briefly describe the types of services that you found.
  • Choose one agency and assess this agency in terms of the 4 A’s. Is it accessible, acceptable, affordable, or available for Mary or other pregnant women that you case-manage?
    • Are there adequate resources for other vulnerable populations in your community?

MARKET IMPACT FROM THE 5 P’s

In this unit, you will become the investigator of three (3) healthcare systems and predict which one has the most promising marketing potential. By the end of this unit, you will be able to proficiently discuss how the 5 P’s of marketing and research-supported assessment strategies impact the marketing potential of a healthcare system.

  • Select and provide a general overview of three (3) healthcare organizations that interest you*.
  • Discuss the 5 P’s of healthcare marketing to each healthcare organization.
  • Elaborate how the 5 P’s of healthcare marketing may impact the marketing potential of a healthcare organization.
  • Using an assessment or evaluation strategy, discuss the marketing potential of each and predict which one has the most promising marketing potential.
    • Be sure to support your assertions with evidence-based research, scholarly articles, and well-supported strategies that support your predictions.

2)

Research the conditions affecting the musculoskeletal and the neurologic systems. Based on your research and understanding, respond to one of the following scenarios:

A patient is admitted to the unit. He is a diabetic on chronic hemodialysis. He has an Arteriovenous (A-V) graft, which is annulated each time he undergoes dialysis treatments. You notice an area on his graft arm that is red and warm to the touch. He states that he has had this on his arm for several weeks. He asked the dialysis staff about the area, but they told him to apply warm compresses to the site. The staff at the dialysis center continues to use the graft, but they are careful to avoid the area when they cannulate for his treatments. Now the patient presents with extreme low back pain, fever, nausea, and swelling of his lower extremities. On checking his fasting serum glucose, you notice that the reading is 159 (Normal fasting blood glucose range 64 to 110 mg/dl), and his white blood cell count is 36,000 (normal range is 4,500-10,000 white blood cells/mcl). He states that his sugars were normally well controlled, but in the past ten days he seems to be requiring more insulin.

How would you proceed with this patient?

What could be the underlying problem?

Taking a Stand

Effective leaders have a high degree of self-awareness and know how to leverage their strengths in the workplace. Assessments are a valuable tool that professionals can use to learn more about themselves and consider how their temperament and preferences influence their interactions with others.

As you engage in this learning process, it is important to remember that everyone—regardless of temperament type or related preferences—experiences some challenges with regard to leadership. The key to success is being able to recognize and leverage your own strengths while honoring differences among your colleagues.

At some point in your leadership career, you will encounter an ethical or moral dilemma that requires you to take a stand and defend your position.

For this Assignment, you evaluate an issue and consider how you could act as a moral agent or advocate, facilitating the resolution of the issue for a positive outcome.

To prepare:

·         Consider the examples of leadership demonstrated in this week’s media presentation and the other Learning Resources.

·         To further your self-knowledge, you are required to complete the Kiersey Temperament as indicated in this week’s Learning Resources. Consider your leadership style, including your strengths for leading others and include your results from Kiersey Temperament Sorter to describe potential challenges related to your leadership style.

·         Mentally survey your work environment, or one with which you are familiar, and identify a timely issue/dilemma that requires you to perform the leadership role of moral agent or advocate to improve a situation (e.g., speaking or acting on behalf of a vulnerable patient, the need for appropriate staffing, a colleague being treated unfairly).

·         What ethical, moral, or legal skills, dispositions, and/or strategies would help you resolve this dilemma? Define the differences between ethical, moral, and legal leadership.

·         Finally, consider the values and principles that guide the nursing profession; the organization’s mission, vision, and values; the leadership and management competencies addressed in this course; and your own values and reasons for entering the profession. What motivation do you see for taking a stand on an important issue even when it is difficult to do so?

To complete:

Write a 4 to 5 page paper (page count does not include title and reference page) that addresses the following:

1.     Introduce the conceptual frameworks of the ethical constructs of ethics, moral, or legal standards and the purpose of the paper.

2.     Consider  an ethical, moral, or legal dilemma that you have encountered in your work environment and describe it.

3.     Analyze the moral, ethical, and legal implications utilized in this situation. Describe your role as a moral agent or advocate for this specific issue.

4.     Consider your leadership styles identified by your self-assessment and determine if they act as a barrier or facilitation during this dilemma.

5.     Summary with Conclusion

REMINDERS:

·         Don’t forget to put introduction with the purpose of the paper (addressing question #1), body of the paper (addressing question #2, #3, and #4), summary with conclusion, and references. Put headings on every addressed question (5 headings).

·         Kindly follow APA format for the citation and references! References should be 5 years old between the period of 2011 and 2016.

·         Please utilize my resources below at least three references on the list and you can add more in your own credible resources…

Conflict Management Styles

You considered how ethical, moral, and legal dilemmas can provoke internal conflict when a nurse’s values are not in alignment with the apparent demands of a situation or with others’ values, as well as external conflict that can arise as these dynamics are played out. Of course, conflict can also emerge through seemingly simple issues of little consequence—little consequence, that is, except when they are not properly managed.

Nurse leaders need to be familiar with conflict management styles and the impact these styles can have on interpersonal dynamics, and, ultimately, patient care. For this Discussion, you evaluate a situation marked by conflict and consider how conflict management strategies could be applied to promote positive results.

To prepare:

  • Consider a conflict situation you witnessed or were engaged in within your practice setting. Then, proceed as follows:
    • Think about who was involved, how it was resolved (if it was), and how it might have been handled more effectively.
    • Identify the conflict management style(s) employed by various individuals, including ineffective responses or no response to the situation.
    • Evaluate your personal response to this conflict.
  • What do your thoughts and actions in this and other conflict situations reveal about your typical approach to conflict?

Please address the following in my assignment:

  1. a description of how you handled or avoided a conflict, as well as the results of your approach.
  2. Explain how would you respond to this conflict today and/or what steps you would take to improve your comfort level and skill for managing conflict in the future (including specific conflict management strategies you would use).
  3. Explain how conflict management relates to your effectiveness as a leader.
  4. Summary with Conclusion

REMINDERS:

1) At least 2 pages (addressing the 4 questions above excluding the title page and reference page).

2) Kindly follow APA format for the citation and references! References should be between the period of 2011 and 2016. Please utilize the references at least three below as much as possible and the rest from yours.

3) Make headings for each question.

Research Utilization

The purpose of this paper is to describe a global health problem that can be explored through nursing research, discuss how this health problem is applicable in both the United States and other countries of the world, and critique four research studies that have been done on the topic.  This is a scholarly paper. DO NOT use the first person.  The paper should be 8 – 10 pages (not including the title, abstract, and reference pages.).  You must use a minimum of 3 research articles for your paper.  The research articles will be discussed in the body of the paper, properly cited, and properly identified in the references.  APA format for citing is required.  Use what you’ve learned about the components of nursing research and strategies for critiquing research to guide your selection of appropriate research study articles.  All THREE of the research study articles MUST BE written by nurses and published in a peer-reviewed nursing journal.  At least ONE of the three nursing research studies must address nursing practice in another country.

Part A:  The first part of the paper should clearly define the global health problem, and discuss why it is important for nursing.  Discuss how this problem is viewed in the United States and how it is viewed in another country.  For example, if the focus is adult hypertension, discuss guidelines for defining hypertension in the US and in another country. ( we are doing mental health for trauma survivors) Use the heading Part A for this section.

Part B:  The second part of the paper will include an Appraisal synopsis for each of the research studies that you have selected for your topic.  This part of the paper will discuss what is known about the health problem in the United States population and at least one other country of the world.  For example, in regards to hypertension, you may choose four research study articles done by nurse researchers that looked at interventions to improve medication compliance, or the effect of diet and exercise in reducing elevated blood pressure.  Use the heading Part B for this section.

Then use the subheading Study #1-Nursing research study in the USA.  Appraise and critique the article following the components of synopsis shown below.  Begin by providing the article citation, then provide a synopsis of the article by answering the questions in Components of Synopsis. Conclude by discussing implications for practice, policy or further research as it relates to Study #1.

Next use the subheading Study #2- Nursing research study non-USA.  Follow the same instructions as for subheading Study #1.

Next use the subheading Study #3 (this can be a nursing research study from USA or non-USA).  Follow the same instructions as for subheading Study #1.

Next use the subheading Study #4 (this can be a nursing research study from USA or non-USA).  Follow the same instructions as for subheading Study #1.

Part C: This is the conclusion of your paper, and summarizes the key points that you have addressed in your paper.
