STDs Essay Assignment

STDs Essay Assignment

An understanding of the factors surrounding women’s and men’s health, infections, and hematologic disorders can be critically important to disease diagnosis and treatment in these areas. This importance is magnified by the fact that some diseases and disorders manifest differently based on the sex of the patient.
Effective disease analysis often requires an understanding that goes beyond the human systems involved. The impact of patient characteristics, as well as racial and ethnic variables, can also have an important impact..

The factors that affect fertility (STDs)

Factors affecting fertility include age, the timing of sexual intercourse, type of lifestyle (use of alcohol, cigarette smoking, weight, exercises), and prescription or over-the-counter drugs. For this case scenario, STDs are the most integral factor affecting fertility. Studies show that STDs such as gonorrhea and Trichomoniasis are associated with the development of fallopian tube damage (Smolarczyk et al., 2021) STDs Essay. Cases of STDs may present like pelvic inflammatory disease, which can involve the female reproductive organs. Studies associate pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) with tubal factor infertility, proving STDs are significant factors that face infertility. STDs Essay Assignment

Why inflammatory markers rise in STD/PID.

Bacteria and other microorganisms are responsible for pelvic inflammatory disease and STDs. The presence of the pathogens in the body induces the secretion of cytokines and interleukins 1, 6 and 8 (Paulis, 2018). Interleukin 1 works in synergy with the Tumor Necrosis Factor to propagate the inflammatory process. The infiltration of substantial quantities of Tumor Necrosis Factor into organs (including organs in the pelvic) activates neutrophil-activating peptides. These inflammatory markers may be tested in the laboratory as C-reactive protein and procalcitonin. STDs Essay.

Why prostatitis and infection happens. Also explain the causes of systemic reaction.

Prostatitis occurs from the inflammatory process at the stroma lying close to prostate acini. Infections may take the form of acute bacterial, chronic or PID. Systemic spread of bacterial infection from the urinary tract into the prostate or from the lymph through the rectum may induce a systemic reaction. Acute prostatic bacterial infection may cause a systemic reaction. STIs including gonorrhea, chlamydia and human immunodeficiency virus are common causes of systemic infection.

Need for splenectomy after a diagnosis of ITP

Following the development of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, the spleen may destroy and remove platelets from the circulation after wrongly considering them as foreign. According to Cooper and Ghanima (2019), a person diagnosed with ITP would require splenectomy to prevent unnecessary damage to platelets.

Anemia and the different kinds of anemia

Anemia is the condition of having a hemoglobin level that is lower than expected level for the respective age or gender (Bengi et al., 2018). The different kinds of anemia include:

Hypo-proliferative anemias – include normocytic, microcytic, and macrocytic anemia based on the mean corpuscular volume

Hypo-proliferative microcytic anemia – include anemia caused by chronic diseases, thalassemia, and iron deficiency anemia

Hypo-proliferative macrocytic anemia – these anemias may drug-induced, or involve deficiencies in vitamin b12 and folate, alcohol, liver disease STDs Essay

Hypo-proliferative normocytic anemia – aplastic anemia. STDs Essay Assignment

Healthcare Quality And Liability and Quality Discussion

PART A “Healthcare Quality” Please respond to the following:

ORDER A PLAGIARISM FREE PAPER NOW

Examine two (2) well-known healthcare quality organizations that have taken two to three (2-3) measures to improve quality within the organizations themselves. Suggest one (1) additional measure that each organization could take to further improve healthcare quality.
Suppose you are a Quality Officer for a healthcare organization in your area. (Albany, NY) You have been tasked with creating a plan to reduce the increasing number of medical errors that occur within your organization. Specify two (2) quality initiatives that your organization could implement in order to reduce medical errors and their related costs. Determine the fundamental tenets of the Standard of Care that would influence quality in your organization.

PLEASE RESPOND TO CLASSMATE DISCUSSION WHETHER YOU AGREE OR NOT & A DETAILED WHY: The Joint Commission (TJC) is the most well known organization that has taken steps to increase the quality of care for hospitals. By establishing the ORYX Initiative in the 1990’s almost every hospital in the country has been accredited by TJC. By establishing training programs for quality assurance and providing quality assurance reviews of hospitals on demand, they have been able to show hospitals where they can improve and provides tools to do so. A second organization that is well known is Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services. This organization works with TJC in ensuring quality assurance measures are standardized and practiced by all facilities. Working with hospitals as well as non-profit and private organizations, they provide quality assurance oversight for many institutions as well as training in outpatient quality of life initiatives.

Two initiatives that an organization can implement is to have a team dedicated in oversight for documentation and follow-ups. Monthly revues of medical records. This will ensure that documentation is properly annotated as well as allowing for the ability to identify problems in diagnosis and after care instructions. A second way which is much easier but a little more costly would be to ensure the use of the electronic health record system. This system has built in quality assurance programs which are designed to check for errors in reporting as well as creating a standardized method of record keeping without the risk of damage to hard copy files or the loss of information due to misfiling.

Part B – “Liability and Quality” Please respond to the following:

As a healthcare administrator, you have been tasked with researching your hospital’s compliance in the proper reporting of both medical and non-medical errors made by the staff. Compare the relationship of hospital’s corporate liability with that of each employee’s vicarious liability in the event of an error. Discuss the essential steps that your organization can take to reduce occurrences in both. Provide at least two (2) examples of the successful application of such steps to support your rationale.
Interpret the extent to which public reporting and value-based purchasing improve healthcare quality. Include a comparison of two to three (2-3) advantages to each reporting method. Support your response with two (2) examples of healthcare quality improvements that could have resulted from of an organization implementing each type of reporting method in question.

PLEASE RESPOND TO CLASSMATE DISCUSSION WHETHER YOU AGREE OR NOT & A DETAILED WHY: Medical errors do happen everyday and at every healthcare facility. The importance of reporting is pivotal in educating and future prevention. Many of the rules and regulations that are in place are there because there was an incident that occurred that required its implementation. Employees should report any and all errors made or discovered so that a proper assessment can be made. Reporting should be signed off by supervisors and quality control reps. The reports can be monitored to see if there is a bigger issue going on such as an individual not performing their duties properly or an equipment malfunction that needs to be service.

Improvement can be developed by reviewing the public reports. Public reporting should be a mandatory reporting platform. The organization should be as transparent as possible as it is a patients right to know the stats of a health care facility. It will also show good faith that the organization is not hiding or covering any malicious practices. Public reporting can also be used as measurement for possible geographical reasons for the errors. Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act ( PSQIA) made a system that allows health care providers to anonymously report medical errors for data analysis. Being able to report anonymously takes away the fear of being attacked by the organization or provider that is being reported. This type of reporting can also help reduce the amount of errors that go unreported therefore providing more accurate data.

· Review the information in this week’s Learning Resources regarding the stages of group formation, problematic roles individuals play in groups, and strategies for facilitating and maintaining positive group collaboration. In particular, review Learning Exercise 19.14 of the course text.  Nurs 6053 Strategies for Facilitating the Group Process

· Reflect on various groups with which you have been or are currently involved. Select one specific group to analyze for the purposes of this Discussion. Identify the purpose or task that the group is or was meant to perform.

· Consider the four stages of group formation (forming, storming, norming, and performing). How would you describe the progression between stages? Is there a stage in which you believe your group is or was “stuck”?

· Consider the task or group-building role you normally play in a group setting. How could you apply the information from the Learning Resources to improve your group participation and facilitation, as well as the functioning of the group as a whole? Nurs 6053.

· In addition, think about which individuals within your group (including yourself) may fall into problematic roles such as the Dominator, the Aggressor, or the Blocker. How have you and your group members addressed the enactment of these roles and its impact on interactions? With information from the Learning Resources in mind, what strategies would you apply now or going forward?

Post a description of a group with which you have been or are currently involved. Assess where the group is in terms of the four stages of group formation. If you are reflecting on a past experience, explain if your group moved through all four stages. Describe the task or group-building role you typically play, or played, in this group. Then, explain what strategies you, as a leader, can apply to better facilitate the group process and address any problematic individual roles in the group. 1.      What health risks associated with obesity does Mr. C. have?

High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Physical Inactivity, Sleep Apnea, Cardiovascular Disease.

2.       Is bariatric surgery an appropriate intervention? Why or why not?

According to American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). The qualifications for bariatric surgery in most areas include:

  • ·         BMI ≥ 40, or more than 100 pounds overweight (ASMBS, 2017).
  • BMI ≥35 and at least one or more obesity-related co-morbidities such as type II diabetes (T2DM), hypertension, sleep apnea and other respiratory disorders, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, lipid abnormalities, gastrointestinal disorders, or heart disease (ASMBS, 2017).
  • Inability to achieve a healthy weight loss sustained for a period of time with prior weight loss efforts (ASMBS, 2017).

According to these qualifications he would be a candidate. He has elevated glucose making him at risk of diabetes and abnormal lipid being a risk of cardiovascular disease. He has evidence of high blood pressure and sleep apnea. His BMI is at 47.75. Bariatric Surgery Discussion Question

nutritional – metabolic- He has gained a large amount of weight over last few years. He needs to learn to control food consumption, also increase of activity. recognizing foods with high fats, high sodium, and making better choices.

Elimination- Nothing is mentioned so further assessment should be done. Watch for constipation of loose stools. An increase of fiber to help with constipation. Watch for change in bowels with new medications.

activity-exercise- Having an office job and perhaps no desire to exercise can lead to weight gain. He should increase activity by walking at lunch. Joining an exercise gym.

sleep-rest-  He is overweight and has sleep apnea, so sleep is probably restless, so a need of a CPAP to get quality sleep may be a good choice. Bariatric Surgery Discussion Question

cognitive-perceptual- He is able to make his needs known, he works and with known information is able to care for himself

self-perception – self-concept- low self-esteem, feeling that he has always been heavy

role-relationship- He is a single man.

sexuality – reproductive- Needs further assessment

coping – stress tolerance- He may overeat due to stress or low self-esteem. He does watch his sodium intake to help cope with hypertension. He is wanting to change his appearance and enhance his health with a weight loss plan. Recommend exercise to help relieve any stress and help cope with change of lifestyle.

5.      What actual or potential problems can you identify? Describe at least five problems and provide the rationale for each.

1.      Patient needs to see a nutritional consult to provide him with a healthy diet. This is important because he needs to learn a healthy pattern before having a surgery. He needs to recognize that his eating patterns are partially responsible for his weight gain.

2.      His sleeping needs to be improved. He cannot have a healthy mind when you are exhausted. Adequate sleep can help improve mental status and provide you energy to make lifestyle changes that are necessary.

3.      He needs to be educated about his high blood sugar. Again, meeting with a nutrition consult can help in this area. He need to have the appropriate equipment to check his own blood sugar.

4.      Patient needs to make sure that he is taking the medications at the appropriate times to benefit his peptic ulcer disease. He also need to make sure that he tells all consults about his medications to avoid adverse reactions with any new medications.

5.      Patient needs to continue to watch sodium intake and be educated about other causes of hypertension, like stress and lack of cardio exercise. Recommend his becoming involved in walking or joining a gym.
