Examine at least two (2) eligibility requirements for Medicaid. Debate the extent to which you agree with the fairness of these requirements. Provide support for your rationale.
Analyze two (2) changes to Medicaid resulting from the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Determine the impact that these changes will have on both Medicare eligibility and your state government’s fiscal responsibility. Provide examples to illustrate the impact of such change.
PLEASE RESPOND TO CLASSMATE DISCUSSION WHETHER YOU AGREE OR NOT & A DETAILED WHY: Medicaid has many eligibility requirements, however two of these I think are essential.
Financial Requirements. There are many people in the country who find themselves either without work or in situations where their job doesn’t pay well enough and does not provide medical coverage due to part time status or some other working limitation. Allowing for those who are in financial need, access to Medicaid is very important. it should not be given to those who can easily afford to obtain their own insurance. Another eligibility is known as Medically Needy. This is a status that is determined by the state. This is the exception that is put into place for those who’s income is above the max requirement for income but are in such medical need that they can be eligible. Examples of this are people who may be 100% disabled but are still able to maintain a job.
Two changes that were implemented are the financial eligibility requirements. Even in Virginia where I live this allowed for more people to enroll into the program. The problem however, it is has increased the amount of money the state is now paying for covering these people and thereby raising the tax rates. Another area where things were improved is the process in which people can be enrolled and how long it takes. before, there were many hurdles that needed to be umped such as income verification, need of the patient, minimum state requirements and the list can go on. After the ACA, members were processed faster and with less of a hassle.
Part B – “State Children’s Health Insurance Program” Please respond to the following:
The State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is implemented separately by each state. Use the Internet to research CHIP funding in your state (NEW YORK). Use the Internet to research the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Website, located at http://www.ncsl.org/issues-research/health/childrens-health-insurance-program-overview.aspx, as well as other related Websites to determine the impact the Affordable Care Act has on CHIP.
From the first e-Activity, specify whether your state follows the private insurance model or the Medicaid model for its CHIP. Analyze the impact that the choice of model has on the fiscal health of your state. Provide two (2) examples of this impact of model choice to support your analysis.
From the second e-Activity, examine at least two (2) changes to CHIP that have occurred as a result of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Hypothesize the potential effect that the changes in question could have on access to health care for children covered by CHIP. Support your rationale with one (1) specific example of such an effect for each change that you have identified.
PLEASE RESPOND TO CLASSMATE DISCUSSION WHETHER YOU AGREE OR NOT & A DETAILED WHY: In NC the children and their families that make too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to pay for the private insurance coverage. This insurance helps with dental services prescriptions drugs, therapy, lab results and so much more that may be needed. There are a lot of people that are dying due to dental diseases. This could have been avoided if they had the proper support of health insurance to check them bi-annual. People may become even more sickly without the proper amount of prescription that could me the choice between life and death.
CHIP is now an all year-round enrollment period which I think is great and well needed because anything can happen over the course of the year from losing a job or even a child getting really sick. Another change would be the more people that they are qualifying for low cost to really no cost depending on the situations. The changes that have been made will definitely help those that really need it the most and is more of a need due to the illness of them. Having some kind of insurance is better than not having any and that is due to anything happening to you in the blink of an eye.
