Euthanasia is the act of deliberate ending of a patient’s life at his or her request or following the request of their families. In healthcare services the term is often referred as mercy killing as it purposes to hastening death of a patient who is suffering with chronic diseases and requesting relief of that pain (McLeod-Sordjan, R., 2014). In preaching of Roman Catholics, the sin of suicide or euthanasia is condemned as a murder and therefore it is described as mortal sin. It is based on the belief that God has supreme power over his creation and human put into suffering because of some purposes. However, Protestant gives different opinion. For instance, it is not the duty of a common man to limit life of an individual and the man should stop playing with God. On the other hand, others consider euthanasia as an acceptable thing as they consider pain and sufferings as purposeless, demoralizing and degradation of individual (Nair, U., 2012). In one of the survey conducted in Australia, it has been observed that 70% of the people support euthanasia. They believe that euthanasia is a compassionate and sensible act allowing doctors to deliberately terminate the life of patient at their request. Being a nurse, I am agreeing with this thought of deliberate termination of death of chronic patients. It is because of the fact I have seen many individuals’ sufferings with chronic diseases and do not have facilities of quality healthcare services. At that stage they seem helpless and gone through tremendous pain and sufferings. For these patients I can suppose this way of ending life.
