Issues of healthcare reform remain at the top of the list in most current policy debates. Some are demanding a more socialist approach to healthcare, while others are demanding that the government take a “hands-off” approach. The healthcare systems of the past directed decision making, work processes, and structure. Newer models are based on social values, and are rooted in the idea that every citizen should be provided basic access to health care services. The purpose of this assignment is to promote awareness of the basic health care system payee models so that the professional nurse is better able to provide informed health care information to his or her consumers.
Directions:
Use your textbook, the Argosy University Online Library, and/or the Internet to research the four basic models of healthcare systems. In a 3- to 4-page essay, address the following:
Discuss the four basic models of healthcare systems (Beveridge, Bismarck, National health insurance model, and the Out-of-pocket Model).
Compare and contrast these models with the US healthcare system.
Analyze the leadership theories or skills that are needed to help consumers navigate through the US healthcare system.
