There are nursing organizations that support the nursing field and advocate for nursing practice. One such organization is the American Nurses Association (ANA). The ANA is involved with developing health policy and law. It reviews the Federal Register (a daily report which shows proposed changes to policies or regulations) regularly and takes into account public comments when making recommendations to improve or alter policies in any way when it comes to nursing (Helbig, 2018). The 15 agencies that can make changes to the policies look at what the ANA has recommended when making their decisions.

Helbig (2018) also mentions that the ANA advocates for nurses on all government levels through different programs. One such program is the ANA’s State Government Affairs Program in which it follows bills introduced to state legislatures on a monthly basis. Nursing scope of practice and other workplace issues are addressed in this program. The ANA looks at the information provided in these programs and shares it.

We are in desperate need of organizations like the ANA because we need a voice to represent us and stand up for us. As nurses, we advocate for our patients and stand up for them to do what’s right. The ANA is an advocate for nurses in the same way. They are our voice and raise awareness to the problems that we face as nurses.

It is vital to have support and leadership from the various professional nursing organizations. They advocate for nursing practice in several ways. In one specific way, a secondary group of the American Nurses Association called the American Nurses Credentialing Center, have developed credentialing programs for nurses who are specialized in an area. “The mission of the ANCC, is to promote excellence in nursing and health care globally through credentialing programs”, (About ANCC – The American Nurses Credentialing Center | ANA Enterprise, n.d.). By having the certification, portrays to the community, peers and employers the knowledge and dedication a RN has for her profession.

“The ANCC sets the standards for Magnet Recognition and recognizes hospitals that meet those standards” (Helbig, 2018). To be magnet recognized, an organization must be incorporating nursing research during the nursing process. Helbig (2018) writes, through evidence based-practice, patient outcomes will continue to improve, and nurses will continue to look for and find new methods to provide safe quality care.

Peer relations are increasingly important in the context of development during middle childhood. Bullying is a serious issue for individuals, schools, and communities and can affect development in the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains of child development.

For this assessment, review the resources about peer relationships and bullying. Additionally, research the topic further, drawing on the Capella University Library and other resources, to learn more about the impact of bullying. Then, develop a 4–5-page research paper about how bullying affects the development of children. Include the following in your paper:

Describe two of the different roles children play in bullying, choosing from the list below:
Kids who bully.
Kids who are bullied.
Kids who assist.
Kids who reinforce.
Outsiders.
Kids who defend.
Apply at least one psychological theory that helps explain the issue of bullying.
Explain how peer relations and peer acceptance are related to bullying behavior in schools. Support your writing with scholarly articles about peer relations and bullying from the Capella library.
Describe at least two proactive strategies that families, schools, and communities can adopt that address the bullying problem. In your discussion, describe how at least one of the following domains of development is affected:
Physical.
Cognitive.
Social.
Emotional.
Conclude by reflecting on your own experiences or the experiences of others who were bullied during the school years and how the application of proactive strategies could have helped alleviate the bullying problem.
Be sure to cite your sources throughout your paper and to include a complete reference list.

Drawing on what you learned about Timothy in the multimedia presentation and on your knowledge of child development, write a 4–6 page analysis of Timothy’s situation and the possibilities for intervention and improvement in his life. In your analysis, include the following:

Provide a brief recap of the case.
Summarize attachment theory, and discuss Timothy’s attachment style to a parent or caregiver. Provide specific examples from the case to support your position.
Describe how Timothy’s attachment to his parents will affect his current and later physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. Provide examples from each childhood stage.
Discuss factors that affect attachment security (secure and insecure). Apply Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model to discuss how contextual and ecological factors such as poverty, education, the environment of the home, and poor quality childcare affect child development.
Describe disordered attachment and treatments available. Use the Capella library to find at least two peer-reviewed articles that focus on disordered attachments and their treatment.
Identify a strategy at each stage of Timothy’s development (early years, elementary years, and adolescence) that would help promote secure attachment.

In today’s society, several professional nursing organizations provide support to the nursing practice all around the world. These organizations are crucial to the developments that the nursing practice is undergoing through support and advocacy. Some of these organizations provide financial support to nurse to assist in their further education while other organizations advocate for their rights in the practice. The American Nurse Association for instance has a mission statement that reads “Nurses advancing our profession to improve health for all” (Helbig, 2018). This organization is determined to help Registered Nurses succeed in the profession with little to no hindrance. ANA achieves professional accountability through, putting in place qualifications into the practice, incorporating a sophisticated credentialing system, and creating room for improvements (Helbig, 2018). By working together with the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the ANA has managed to ensure nurses are fully equipped with the right skills to ensure patient safety is maintained at all times.

Nurses who are members of such organizations are well represented as the organization carries forward their complaints to the relevant authorities. A nurse stands a better chance of having her case heard if at all she is represented by such professional organizations than when she is on her own. Nurses should join such professional organizations that are determined to ensure nurses’ rights are not violated at any point.

The main issue here is the “causal” statement that is made. The error is that correlation does not necessarily mean causation. In a correlation you cannot say variable A causes variable B. This only shows the correlation of heart rate and smoking. There might be a causal relationship, but you cannot say there is one with the evidence from a correlation. A correlation does not control for any of the other variables that might be driving the cause. For valid linear correlation between two variables required the mutual influence of each variable on other so that there can be a relationship between two variables of cause and effect. Like there is a correlation between demand and supply (Pagano, 1981). Where demand can cause to increase or decrease the supply as an effect. Looking at the example: “Cigarettes cause the pulse rate to increase” there are a number of other factors that could be the causing factor. It could be the replacement of air with smoke is why someone’s pulse rate gets higher as they prepare to smoke a cigarette, gender, age, type of cigarettes, as well as general health factors. For instance, a smoker of thirty years will see a more pronounced heart rate increase as opposed to someone of only a few months. Health factors such as tachycardia can affect the rate as well and that sort of variable, current health, is not accounted for. While the main component used here is a well-defined statistical and evidenced concept, there are no other variables considered here. Without these other variables this is only a correlation and not a definitive of causation unless the other correlating variables are present and accounted for and therefore cannot represent a conclusion. If this idea was tested in an experiment where the other variables are controlled, then the claim might be able to be made, but an experiment would be needed to do so.

I feel labor and delivery is an area where statistics are used inappropriately. Cesarean section rates are a big percentage that is always talked about. According to the CDC, in New Mexico in 2016, the cesarean section rate was 24.8%. This is a very vague statistic because scheduled and repeat cesarean sections are often not included in these statistics. This skews the statistical data because a c-section is a c-section. We have had patients that choose one facility over another because of that facility’s c-section rate when it comes down to other variables such as weight, fetal position, cervical ripeness, and placental sufficiency. It is more appropriate to have an anticipated c-section rate and an unanticipated/emergent c-section rate.
